Three Different Methods for Determining the Microwave Noise Parameters of HEMT's at Decreasing Temperatures

The noise characteristics of any transistor are usually represented by means of four parameters which are frequency-, bias- and temperature-dependent, similarly to the scattering parameters. The noise parameters are determined by a standard indirect procedure based on multiple noise figure measurements and appropriate data processing techniques requiring a complex instrumentation set-up and skilled operators. As an alterative way, we have shown that the noise parameters of packaged HEAMT's can be computed with very good accuracy from the analysis of a noisy circuit model derived from the scattering parameters plus a single noise figure measurement. On the determination of device noise and gain parameters

The least-squares fitting of measured noise figures and gains versus input termination admittance is an established procedure to determine linear two-port noise and gain parameters. Unfortunately, the method is liable to the serious inconvenience of yielding often erroneous results or even results without physical meaning. Some criteria are suggested which allow the carrying out of measurements in such a manner as to safely avoid the above drawbacks.

Signal to Noise Ratio of Silicon Photomultipliers measured in the Continuous Wave Regime

We performed a Signal to Noise Ratio characterization, in the continuous wave regime, at different bias voltages, frequencies and temperatures, on a novel class of silicon photomultipliers fabricated in planar technology on silicon p-type substrate. Signal to Noise Ratio has been measured as the ratio of the photogenerated current, filtered and averaged by a lock-in amplifier, and the Root Mean Square deviation of the overall current flowing to the device. The measured noise takes into account the shot noise, resulting from the photocurrent and the dark current. 57Fe and119Sn Mössbauer investigations on some substituted barium hexaferrites

57Fe and119Sn Mossbauer measurements have been carried out on powder samples of three differently substituted M-type barium hexaferrites. By57Fe Mossbauer measurements in an external magnetic field applied parallel to the γ-ray direction, we found a canted spin structure for all samples. Furthermore, we detected a strong preference of the Sn4+ ions for the 4f2 sites. From57Fe Mossbauer measurements aboveT N, we conclude that the substitution does not influence the 2b sites. The analysis of the magnetically split119Sn Mossbauer spectra at room temperature in the case of the Co-Sn and Zn-Sn substituted samples shows a strong difference between the two. Changes in nuclear structure along the Mn isotopic chain studied via charge radii

The hyperfine spectra of $^{51,53-64}$Mn were measured in two experimental runs using collinear laser spectroscopy at ISOLDE, CERN. Laser spectroscopy was performed on the atomic $3d^5\ 4s^2\ ^{6}\text{S}_{5/2}\rightarrow 3d^5\ 4s4p\ ^{6}\text{P}_{3/2}$ and ionic $3d^5\ 4s\ ^{5}\text{S}_2 \rightarrow 3d^5\ 4p\ ^{5}\text{P}_3$ transitions, yielding two sets of isotope shifts. Multilayered samples reconstructed by measuring Kα/Kβ or Lα/Lβ X-ray intensity ratios by EDXRF

Abstract In this paper a general method based on energy-dispersive X-ray fluorescence (EDXRF) analysis has been tested to assess its possible use as a tool to reconstruct the structure and determine the thickness of two and/or multi-layered materials. The method utilizes the X-ray intensity ratios of Kα/Kβ or Lα/Lβ peaks (or the ratio of these peaks) for selected elements present in multi-layered objects of various materials (Au alloys, gilded Cu, gilded Ag, gilded Pb, Ag–Au Tumbaga, stone surfaces with protective treatments, Zn or Nickel plating on metals). Multiplicity dependence of mean transverse momentum in $e^+e^-$ annihilations at LEP energies

A strong increase of the mean transverse momentum [p(t)] with the number of charged particles n(ch) is observed in e+e- annihilations into hadrons at LEP energies, The effect resembles correlations observed in hadron-hadron interactions. In e+e- annihilations the [p(t)] and n(ch) correlations can be accounted for by gluon radiation.
