Reported prevalence of health conditions that affect drivers

2017

Drivers’ health and fitness are essential factors in order to predict performance outcomes and to promote road safety. It is a demonstrated fact that drivers with (physical and mental) health impairments or illnesses have more probabilities of being involved in traffic crashes and suffering (or causing) several injuries. The general objective of this study was to examine the prevalence of adverse health conditions that may affect Spanish drivers and its perceived impact on driving fitness. It was used a sample of 1,200 Spanish drivers (666 men and 534 women). The only selection criteria were to be in possession of any type of driving license for vehicles other than motorcycles and to drive …

COVID-19 jako przesłanka wzmocnienia zrównoważonej mobilności

2021

Like ships passing in the night? Nonstandard work schedules and spousal satisfaction in Finland, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom

2020

This study examined the associations of work schedules and spousal satisfaction among Finnish (n = 347), Dutch (n = 304) and British (n = 337) parents. In addition to comparing parents with nonstandard schedule with parents in regular day work, the study examined separately the roles played in spousal satisfaction of morning, evening, night and weekend work and other working time-related variables (working hours, changes in and influence over one’s work schedules and spouse’s work schedule). The three-country data were analyzed using structural equation modeling with a multigroup procedure in Mplus. Little evidence for negative associations of work schedules and related factors with spousal…

Factors Affecting the Consumers’ Purchase Intention and Willingness-to-Pay More for Electric-Vehicle Technology

2021

This study conducted an in-depth analysis of the factors affecting consumers’ intention to purchase and willingness to pay more for an electric vehicle (EV) in the developing-country context, extending the theory of planned behavior with two new variables: environmental concern and willingness to pay (WTP) a premium. Survey data were collected from 358 responses and were analyzed using partial least squares structural equation modeling. Multi-group analysis was conducted, and the moderating role of gender was examined. The findings showed the significant effects of the theory-of-planned-behavior variables and environmental concern on EV technology purchase intention. The present study provi…

Longitudinal associations between teacher-child interactions and academic skills in elementary school

2017

This study examined the extent to which the quality of teacher-child interactions assessed in kindergarten (6-year-olds) is associated with children's reading and math development across the elementary school years. The sample consisted of 515 Finnish children (271 boys, 244 girls). Teacher-child interactions were observed in 49 kindergarten classrooms. The findings from the latent growth curve models showed that high-quality teacher–child interactions in kindergarten were positively associated with the initial levels of reading and math skills. Furthermore, the results indicated that high-quality teacher-child interactions in kindergarten were positively associated with children's academic…

Analysis of the determinants of entrepreneurial intention: the case of Burkina Faso

2018

International audience; In this study, we propose to analyze students' entrepreneurial intention, drawing on Lazear's (2004) self-selection model. This model captures the role of "human capital" in employment assignment and emphasizes the importance of the variety of skills in the individual's entrepreneurial orientation. For this purpose, we have a database collected in 2017 from over 1000 students at Ouaga I and Ouaga II universities in Burkina Faso. The results of estimates obtained using the quantile regression method show a positive and significant effect of the diversity of skills on the intention score, mainly at the median level. Even if the effect is not strong, this result support…

Spatial variation in the evolutionary potential and constraints of basal metabolic rate and body mass in a wild bird

2023

An organism's energy budget is strongly related to resource consumption, performance, and fitness. Hence, understanding the evolution of key energetic traits, such as basal metabolic rate (BMR), in natural populations is central for understanding life-history evolution and ecological processes. Here we used quantitative genetic analyses to study evolutionary potential of BMR in two insular populations of the house sparrow (Passer domesticus). We obtained measurements of BMR and body mass (Mb) from 911 house sparrows on the islands of Leka and Vega along the coast of Norway. These two populations were the source populations for translocations to create an additional third, admixed ‘common ga…

Like Parents, like Teenagers: A Romanian Youth Smoking Overview

2015

AbstractThis paper estimates how family model influences youth's smoking behaviors and describes smoking behavior in Romania nowadays. A questionnaire-based survey was used and data was collected from a national sample (1,364 people: 536 male and 828 female; average age 22,71 years and SD=3,128). The paper analyses only the items relevant for smoking behavior.Using a quasi-experimental design, we found a significant difference determinated by father's model (ρ(1364)= 0,158, p < 0,05), mother's model (ρ(1362)=0,155, p < 0,05), and brothers/sisters’ model (ρ(1362)=0,219, p < 0,05), regarding smoking behavior. Keywords: smoking behaviour, Romanian teenagers, parental model, Health Psychology
