Are AuPdTM (T = Sc, Y and M = Al, Ga, In), Heusler Compounds Superconductors without Inversion Symmetry?
2019
Heusler compounds with 2:1:1 stoichiometry either have a centrosymmetric Cu 2 MnAl structure or an Li 2 AgSb structure without a centre of inversion. The centrosymmetry is always lost in quaternary Heusler compounds with 1:1:1:1 stoichiometry and LiMgPdSn structure. This presents the possibility of realizing non-centrosymmetric superconductors in the family of Heusler compounds. The objective of this study is to search for and investigate such quaternary derivatives of Heusler compounds, particularly with respect to superconductivity. Several compounds were identified by carrying out calculations from first principles and superconductivity was observed in experiments conducted on AuPdScAl a…
Injection Molding and Mechanical Properties of Bio-Based Polymer Nanocomposites
2018
The use of biodegradable/bio-based polymers is of great importance in addressing several issues related to environmental protection, public health, and new, stricter legislation. Yet some applications require improved properties (such as barrier or mechanical properties), suggesting the use of nanosized fillers in order to obtain bio-based polymer nanocomposites. In this work, bionanocomposites based on two different biodegradable polymers (coming from the Bioflex and MaterBi families) and two different nanosized fillers (organo-modified clay and hydrophobic-coated precipitated calcium carbonate) were prepared and compared with traditional nanocomposites with high-density polyethylene (HDPE…
Novel hybrid polymer composites with graphene and MXene nano-reinforcements: computational analysis
2021
This paper presents a computational analysis on the mechanical and damage behavior of novel hybrid polymer composites with graphene and MXene nano-reinforcements targeted for flexible electronics and advanced high-strength structural applications with additional functions, such as real-time monitoring of structural integrity. Geometrical models of three-dimensional representative volume elements of various configurations were generated, and a computational model based on the micromechanical finite element method was developed and solved using an explicit dynamic solver. The influence of the geometrical orientation, aspect ratio, and volume fractions of the inclusions, as well as the interfa…
Insights into the effect of the spacer on the properties of imidazolium based AIE luminogens
2021
Abstract With the aim to obtain organic salts with potential applications in high performance molecular electronics, we combined properties of π-conjugated spacers, like 1,4-diethynylbenzene and 1,6-diethynylpyrene, with the ones of both imidazole and imidazolium units. Physico-chemical properties of obtained fluorescent organic salts were investigated performing thermo-gravimetric analysis (TGA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and cyclic voltammetry measurements (CV). Photophysical behavior of the salts was analyzed in conventional solvents and ionic liquids, by UV–vis and fluorescence investigation. Solution phase aggregation study revealed that these salts self-assemble in conve…
Development of a 3D CZT Spectrometer System with Digital Readout for Hard X/Gamma-Ray Astronomy
2019
We report on the development and of a complete X/γ rays detection system (10-1000 keV) based on CZT spectrometers with spatial resolution in three dimensions (3D) and a digital electronics acquisition chain. The prototype is made by packing four linear modules, each composed of one 3D CZT sensors. Each sensors is realized using a single spectroscopic graded CZT crystal of about 20×20×5 mm3. An electrode structure consisting of 12 collecting anodes with a pitch of 1.6 mm and 3 drift strips between each pair of anodes for 48 strips (0.15 mm wide) on the anodic side was adopted. The cathode is made of 10 strips with a pitch of 2 mm and orthogonal to anode side strips. Since the reading of the …
High electrical conductance of single molecules: a challenge in the series of conjugated oligomers.
2009
En route to molecular electronics: As extended, conjugated oligomers are desirable for molecular electronics, their electrical conductance should display a low attenuation factor. Zinc-complexed oligo(ethynyleneporphyrindiylethynylene)s have been prepared that are distinguished by ultralow attenuation factors in single-molecule conductance.
A Test Circuit for GaN HEMTs Dynamic Ron Characterization in Power Electronics Applications
2019
Wide bandgap devices such as GaN HEMTs are a promising technology in the field of Power Electronics. Due to the physical properties of the Gallium nitride and the device design, they can outperform their Silicon counterparts for the design of highly efficient power switching converters. However, its design should face certain effects that can diminish its performance. One of such effect is the degradation mechanism known as dynamic onresistance (dynamic RON,), being its mitigation one of the main objectives in the design of the device. In this paper, a circuit is proposed for assessing if this effect is present in GaN transistors in power electronics applications. The circuit allows testing…
Power losses comparison between Silicon Carbide and Silicon devices for an isolated DC-DC converter
2021
In recent years, new efficient power devices have been implemented. Silicon Carbide has replaced silicon as regards the production and the utilization of many devices, such as MOSFETs, diodes, IGBTs and many others. SiC devices are characterized by a low reverse recovery charge, high carrier saturation velocity, by which it is possible to work at high frequency, and high breakdown voltage. Thanks to the great thermal conductivity and the wide bandgap, these devices can operate at high temperature and reach high voltages and currents. What is important to stress is the fact that power losses in SiC devices are lower than the silicon ones. These are the reasons why these devices are utilized …
Modelling and analysis of the influence of solar spectrum on the efficiency of photovoltaic modules
2021
Abstract The article presents the influence of changes in the solar radiation spectrum distribution on the properties of various photovoltaic modules, with particular emphasis on the scattered component. We compared the relative efficiency of the photovoltaic modules based on various semiconductor absorbers during bright and sunny, and cloudy summer days. Additionally, we presented the impact of the module tilt angle on the magnitude of the surface incident scattered component and on the efficiency of the module. The solar spectra for various weather conditions were estimated using specialised computer programmes, such as SolarSpectrum or SMARTS2, and we present here the validation results f…
