Measuring innovation in tourism from the Schumpeterian and the dynamic-capabilities perspectives

This paper offers a diagnosis of the “state of the issue” regarding the measurement of innovation in the tourism industry at the company level, and some recommendations for overcoming identified problems. The study addresses two central issues: how existing secondary databases of innovative activity define the boundaries of the tourism industry, and the degree to which these databases reflect the particular characteristics of this economic activity. Content analysis is a popular method in communication and media research. However, to what extent and in which contexts it is used in sport communication research has hardly been investigated. In order to provide empirically grounded insight, the authors conducted a quantitative content analysis of scholarly journal articles using content analysis as a research method, focusing on three major international sport communication journals during the 10 years between 2010 and 2019 (N = 267). Visitor arrivals forecasts amid COVID-19: A perspective from the Africa team

Abstract COVID-19 disrupted international tourism worldwide, subsequently presenting forecasters with a challenging conundrum. In this competition, we predict international arrivals for 20 destinations in two phases: (i) Ex post forecasts pre-COVID; (ii) Ex ante forecasts during and after the pandemic up to end 2021. Our results show that univariate combined with cross-sectional hierarchical forecasting techniques (THieF-ETS) outperform multivariate models pre-COVID. Scenarios were developed based on judgemental adjustment of the THieF-ETS baseline forecasts. Influence of carbon to nitrogen ratio on nitrous oxide emission in an Integrated Fixed Film Activated Sludge Membrane BioReactor plant

Abstract In this study a University of Cape Town (UCT) Integrated Fixed Film Activated Sludge (IFAS) Membrane BioReactor (MBR) wastewater treatment plant was monitored in terms of nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions. The short term effect on the N2O emission due to the influent carbon-to-nitrogen (C/N) ratio variation (C/N ratios of 2, 5 and 10 gCOD/gN) was evaluated. Como modalidad de investigación narrativa, la autoetnografía enfatiza la parte más personal del proceso de investigación. En este artículo, el relato autoetnográfico se utiliza para reflexionar sobre el trabajo de campo de un estudio etnográfico previo desarrollado en el polideportivo de una prisión de máxima seguridad española. Los datos recogidos en aquella ocasión han sido reexaminados ahora para explicitar críticamente los pasos dados. De este modo, se ponen de manifiesto tanto los dilemas éticos enfrentados, las complejas relaciones sociales que el proceso de investigación encerró, así como la falibilidad de las decisiones tomadas.
