Complex platinum (Pt) compounds are known as occupational respiratory sensitizers whereas their role in skin exposure is unclear. In this study, both skin irritation and induction of contact hypersensitivity by halide Pt salts were characterized in mice. Repeated application of Na2[PtCl6] (5% in acetone) to both ears of naive BALB/c mice induced activation of the draining auricular lymph nodes. Flow cytometric analysis revealed a striking increase in the number of lymph node cells expressing proliferating cell nuclear antigen. Primary Mucinous Adenocarcinoma of the Urinary Bladder with Signet-Ring Cells: Description of an Uncommon Case and Critical Points in Its Management

We present an uncommon case of mucinous adenocarcinoma of the bladder (MAB) with signet-ring cells extensively infiltrating prostate gland and pelvic/retroperitoneal lymph node stations and not responsive to usual systemic chemotherapy regimens. This case highlights the important features of MAB including the pattern of tumor spread, the tendency for initial misdiagnosis, and the importance of immunohistochemical study in order to define its primary origin from the bladder and choose the most appropriate treatment since the beginning.

Aim The established criteria for benignity or malignancy of lymph nodes when evaluated with B-mode ultrasound can be divided into quantitative measures (size, quantity, contour and density) and qualitative parameters (configuration and structure). The validity of these criteria is controversial. Methods Two cases of sinus histiocytosis with massive lymphadenopathy (SHML) are presented; this is a rare benign reactive disorder in which massive enlargement of cervical lymph nodes often occurs. We describe a 67-year-old woman with primary Sjögren's syndrome who developed a splenic marginal zone B-cell lymphoma, and complained of a dry mouth and Raynaud's phenomenon. She had splenomegaly, swollen lymph nodes and monoclonal IgM-kappa cryoglobulin. After splenectomy, Raynaud's phenomenon had improved with the decrease of cryoglobulin. This is the first case of primary Sjögren's syndrome with splenic marginal zone B-cell lymphoma to be reported.

Kawasaki disease (KD) is a vasculitis of unknown origin of small and medium caliber blood vessels, especially involving coronary arteries and is the leading cause of acquired heart disease in childhood in developed countries. Although rarely, it can recur: most recurrences occur within 2 years of the initial episode. No data are available on incidence of recurrent KD in Europe and multiple recurrences are rarely seen. Mediastinal lymph node staging with transesophageal echography in cancer of the lung.

Transesophageal echography (TEE) was used prospectively to study mediastinal lymph node enlargement in 23 patients with cancer of the lung. The findings were validated blindly by comparison with computed tomography (CT, n = 23) and pathological N classification after curative surgery (n = 9). Lymph nodes larger than 1 cm were defined as pathologically enlarged. In the upper mediastinum, 22% (8 vs 36), in the lower mediastinum including the subaortic region 112% (37 vs 33) and in the hilar region 67% (6 vs 9) of enlarged lymph nodes diagnosed by CT were detected by TEE. The intrarectal (IR) route represents an alternative to the oral route of immunization; nevertheless, immune responses induced by this route are not well defined. Here, we studied the early primary B cell response (induction, homing, and phenotype) induced by IR immunization with rotavirus (RV)-2/6 virus-like particles (VLP).
