Polymorphism of mytilin B mRNA is not traslated into mature peptide

Diversity of mRNAs from mytilin B, one of the five mytilins identified in the Mediterranean mussel, Mytilus galloprovincialis, has been investigated from circulating hemocytes. One mussel expressed simultaneously two to ten different mytilin B mRNAs as observed in denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE), defining 10 individual DGGE patterns (named A to J) within the mussels from Messina, Sicily (Italy). Three patterns accounted for 79% of the individuals whereas other patterns were found in only 2-7% of the 57 analyzed mussels. Modulation of Nitric Oxide Production by Tetracyclines and Chemically Modified Tetracyclines

Chemically modified tetracyclines (CMTs) dose-dependently decreased inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and, consequently, nitric oxide (NO) formation by the lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated J774 line. The inhibitory effect was due to a specific reduction in the iNOS protein content in the cells, as attested by Western blot analysis and by the inhibition of iNOS mRNA accumulation. Furthermore, CMTs cause a dose-dependent increase in cell death in the J774 line mediated by the NO-independent apoptotic mechanism.

Expressional downregulation of neuronal-type NO synthase I in guinea pig skeletal muscle in response to bacterial lipopolysaccharide

AbstractWe have investigated the expression of neuronal-type NO synthase I (NOS I) and inducible-type NOS II in guinea pig skeletal muscle (diaphragm). Expression of NOS I mRNA and protein was highest in muscle of specific pathogen-free animals, lower in normally bred animals, and lowest in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-treated animals. NOS II mRNA and protein levels were highest in muscle of LPS-treated animals. Elevated NOS activity in muscle from LPS-treated animals was less susceptible to the NOS I-selective inhibitor NG-nitro-l-arginine. Expressional downregulation of NOS I in sepsis may have implications for contractile function of skeletal muscle.

Centrifugation does not alter spatial distribution of `BEP4' mRNA in paracentrotus lividus EGG

AbstractParacentrotus lividus unfertilized eggs were centrifuged in a sucrose gradient, so to split each into two parts: a nucleated light fragment and an anucleated heavy fragment. Northern blot analyses utilizing a bep4 probe as animal marker and H2A histone gene and 12S-mit RNA as controls indicate that the eggs are elongated along the animal-vegetal axis during centrifugation and thereafter split into an animal and a vegetal half. Treatment of the eggs with colchicine before centrifugation abolishes the animal localization of bep4 mRNA.

Chronic administration of L-DOPA to MPTP-treated common marmosets induces marked dyskinesia while repeated administration of equivalent antiparkisonian doses of ropinirole and bromocriptine produces only mild involuntary movements. The occurrence of dyskinesia has been associated with an altered balance between the direct and indirect striatal output pathways. Real-Time Quantification of Human Telomerase Reverse Transcriptase mRNA in the Plasma of Patients with Prostate Cancer

The aim of this study was to evaluate the potential diagnostic value of quantitative analysis of human telomerase reverse transcriptase (hTERT) mRNA in plasma for noninvasive diagnosis of prostate cancer (PCa). Expression levels of hTERT were analyzed by real-time quantitative RT-PCR in 68 patients showing elevated prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels and a control group of 44 healthy volunteers. Sensitivity and specificity were determined and compared to the corresponding PSA values. Atorvastatin in stable angina patients lowers CCL2 and ICAM1 expression: Pleiotropic evidence from plasma mRNA analyses

Chronic l-DOPA treatment increases striatal cannabinoid CB1 receptor mRNA expression in 6-hydroxydopamine-lesioned rats

Abstract The effect of a unilateral 6-hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA) lesion of the left medial forebrain bundle and 3 weeks treatment with l -DOPA of normal and 6-OHDA lesioned rats on CB1r mRNA expression was investigated by in situ hybridization. A 6-OHDA lesion of nigrostriatal pathway alone, confirmed by the loss of nigral tyrosine hydroxylase mRNA, did not alter CB1r mRNA levels in the dopamine depleted striatum. Similarly, chronic l -DOPA treatment of normal rats had no effect on striatal CB1r mRNA expression.
