Size and Surface Chemistry Tuning of Silicon Carbide Nanoparticles.

2017

International audience; Chemical transformations on the surface of commercially available 3C-SiC nanoparticles were studied by means of FTIR, XPS, and temperature-programmed desorption mass spectrometry methods. Thermal oxidation of SiC NPs resulted in the formation of a hydroxylated SiO2 surface layer with C3Si–H and CHx groups over the SiO2/SiC interface. Controllable oxidation followed by oxide dissolution in HF or KOH solution allowed the SiC NPs size tuning from 17 to 9 nm. Oxide-free SiC surfaces, terminated by hydroxyls and C3Si–H groups, can be efficiently functionalized by alkenes under thermal or photochemical initiation. Treatment of SiC NPs by HF/HNO3 mixture produces a carbon-e…

Synergy between tungsten and palladium supported on titania for the catalytic total oxidation of propane

2012

Titania-supported palladium catalysts modified by tungsten have been tested for the total oxidation of propane. The addition of tungsten significantly enhanced the catalytic activity. Highly active catalysts were prepared containing a low loading of 0.5 wt.% palladium, and activity increased as the tungsten loading was increased up to 6 wt.%. Catalysts were characterised using a variety of techniques, including powder X-ray diffraction, laser Raman spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, temperature-programmed reduction and aberration-corrected scanning transmission electron microscopy. Highly dispersed palladium nanoparticles were present on the catalyst with and without the additi…

Electrochemical oxidation of tetramethoxy precursor as a key step for the synthesis of coenzyme Q10

2007

The feasibility of electrosynthesis of coenzyme Q10 (1) by electrooxidation of tetramethoxy precursor (2) has been investigated at carbon, Pt and BDD anodes in a divided cell. The process strongly depends on the applied potential, anode material and water content of the solvent. At carbon anodes in CH3CN/CH2Cl2 + 0.15 M Bu4NBF4 at proper operative conditions high faradic efficiency (>60%) and excellent selectivity (95–97%) of the target product were obtained. Keywords: Electrosynthesis, Coenzyme Q10, Anodic oxidation

Mo-containing tetragonal tungsten bronzes. The influence of tellurium on catalytic behaviour in selective oxidation of propene

2009

Abstract Te-free and Te-containing multicomponent Mo-based catalysts presenting tetragonal tungsten bronze (TTB) structure have been prepared, characterized and tested for the selective oxidation of propene. The catalysts were prepared hydrothermally and heat treated at 700 °C. The structural characterization performed by means of XRD, FTIR, SAED and HRTEM confirms the incorporation of tellurium to the TTB structural framework and shows that its presence does not modify in essence the crystalline structure. However, the incorporation of Te strongly modifies the catalytic performance, and the highest yield to acrolein has been achieved on catalysts with Te/Mo atomic ratios in bulk of 0.03. T…

IONIC LIQUIDS MODIFIED CATALYSTS: SYNTHESIS, IMMOBILIZATION AND USES.

Synthesis, catalytic activity and recovery of Ionic liquid modified and un-modified catalysts have mainly been focused in this thesis. Particularly, our attention has been given to 2,2,6,6-Tetramethyl-piperidine-N-oxyl (TEMPO) catalyst for its unique redox behavior in alcohol oxidation to carbonyl compounds. In order to tag appropriate number of IL moieties, [60]Fullerene as well as benzylic linker units were employed as a molecular support. However, covalently supported catalysts were recovered by a short silica pad while, ionic liquid-tagged TEMPO catalysts were recovered by a non-covalent “Release and Catch” approach using silica grafted polymeric multilayered covalently supported ionic …

Fast and direct analysis of oxidation levels of oil-in-water emulsions using ATR-FTIR.

2019

International audience; Oxidation of omega-3 fatty acids is a major limitation on its enrichment in food and beverages. An efficient and simple method to monitor lipid oxidation in complex systems is essential to limit lipid oxidation during formulation and processing. Fish oil-in-water emulsions (20% v/v) were exposed to iron or free radical initiated oxidation. Conjugated dienes (CDs) were rapidly measured using a previously developed fat extraction method. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy has been used to directly record chemical changes occurring during oxidation. Variations were noticed in different spectral regions despite the presence of broad water bands near 3400 and …

Single-molecule switching with non-contact atomic force microscopy

2011

We report upon controlled switching of a single 3,4,9,10-perylene tetracarboxylic diimide derivative molecule on a rutile TiO(2)(110) surface using a non-contact atomic force microscope at room temperature. After submonolayer deposition, the molecules adsorb tilted on the bridging oxygen row. Individual molecules can be manipulated by the atomic force microscope tip in a well-controlled manner. The molecules are switched from one side of the row to the other using a simple approach, taking benefit of the sample tilt and the topography of the titania substrate. From density functional theory investigations we obtain the adsorption energies of different positions of the molecule. These adsorp…

Biomimetic Alginate/Gelatin Cross-Linked Hydrogels Supplemented with Polyphosphate for Wound Healing Applications

2020

In the present study, the fabrication of a biomimetic wound dressing that mimics the extracellular matrix, consisting of a hydrogel matrix composed of non-oxidized and periodate-oxidized marine alginate, was prepared to which gelatin was bound via Schiff base formation. Into this alginate/oxidized-alginate-gelatin hydrogel, polyP was stably but reversibly integrated by ionic cross-linking with Zn2+ ions. Thereby, a soft hybrid material is obtained, consisting of a more rigid alginate scaffold and porous structures formed by the oxidized-alginate-gelatin hydrogel with ionically cross-linked polyP. Two forms of the Zn-polyP-containing matrices were obtained based on the property of polyP to f…
