Photocatalytic oxidation of trans-ferulic acid to vanillin on TiO2 and WO3-loaded TiO2 catalysts
2015
Abstract The photocatalytic oxidation of trans-ferulic acid to vanillin in water has been studied by using various TiO2 and WO3-loaded TiO2 samples as catalysts. Different values of selectivity were obtained depending on the physico-chemical properties of the single samples and a vanillin selectivity of 10% was reached in the presence of the commercial TiO2 Merck. Higher selectivity values were obtained by impregnation of TiO2 with H2WO4 followed by calcination. The increased production of vanillin exhibited by the obtained WO3-loaded TiO2 powders was attributed to a reduced further oxidation of the aldehyde caused by the presence of the practically inactive tungsten trioxide hydrate on the…
Oxidation of alcohols to carbonyl compounds with CrO3.SiO2 in supercritical carbon dioxide.
2006
Supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO2) is an effective reaction medium to perform the oxidation of primary and secondary aliphatic alcohols to the corresponding carbonyl compounds with chromium trioxide supported on silica. These reactions were performed by flowing a solution of the alcohol in scCO2 through a column containing the supported reagent and recovering the product by depressurization. This method avoids the use of organic solvents and the contamination of the products with chromium species.

Heterogeneous oxidation of pyrimidine and alkyl thioethers in ionic liquids over mesoporous Ti or Ti/Ge catalysts.
2004
Heterogeneous catalytic oxidation of a series of thioethers (2-thiomethylpyrimidine, 2-thiomethyl-4,6-dimethyl-pyrimidine, 2-thiobenzylpyrimidine, 2-thiobenzyl-4,6-dimethylpyrimidine, thioanisole, and n-heptyl methyl sulfide) was performed in ionic liquids by using MCM-41 and UVM-type mesoporous catalysts containing Ti, or Ti and Ge. A range of triflate, tetrafluoroborate, trifluoroacetate, lactate and bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)-imide-based ionic liquids were used. The oxidations were carried out by using anhydrous hydrogen peroxide or the urea-hydrogen peroxide adduct and showed that ionic liquids are very effective solvents, achieving greater reactivity and selectivity than reactions p…
Utilization of different dietary lipid sources at high level in herbivorous grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella): mechanism related to hepatic fatty …
2008
Herbivorous grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella) has been reported to exhibit low capacity to utilize high dietary lipid, but different lipid sources might affect this limited capacity. In order to compare the effects of different lipid sources with different lipid levels, juvenile grass carp were fed one of nine diets containing three oils [lard, plant oil mixed by maize and linseed oil, and n-3 high unsaturated fatty acid-enriched (HUFA-enriched) fish oil] at three lipid levels (20, 60 and 100 g kg(-1) dry diet) for 8 weeks. Decreased feed intake, poor growth performance, hepatic pathology and higher blood lipid peroxidation were found in 60 and 100 g kg(-1) fish oil groups. Conversely, i…
Enhancing Selectivity In Photocatalytic Formation Of P-Anisaldehyde In Aqueous Suspension Under Solar Light Irradiation Via Tio2 N-Doping
2012
The photocatalytic partial oxidation of 4-methoxybenzyl alcohol to the corresponding aldehyde (p-anisaldehyde) was performed under simulated solar irradiation by using home prepared N-doped TiO2 catalysts. The photocatalysts were prepared by a sol–gel method, using TiCl4 as TiO2 precursor and NH4Cl, urea or NH4OH as N-doping sources. A commercial TiO2 (Degussa P25) was also used for comparison aims. The prepared catalysts were characterized by BET specific surface area, XRD, ESEM and UV-vis spectroscopy. The reactivity results show that (i) the doped catalysts are predominantly amorphous, and they show selectivity values far higher than those of the corresponding undoped ones and of well cr…
G6PD Overexpression Protects Mice Against Associated Oxidative Stress and Delays the Occurrence of Frailty
2016
To assess the impact of lifelong overexpression of G6PD on reactive oxygen species (ROS)-derived damage and the prevention of frailty, we measured the levels of macromolecular oxidative damage in young and old mice and the we tested the neuromuscular fitness and the grip strength in old mice. Old G6PD-Tg male and female mice showed diminished accumulation of DNA oxidation (measured as 8-hydroxyguanosine or 8-OHdG) in liver and brain. Old females also showed reduced lipid oxidation (measured as malondialdehyde or MDA) in the liver. Old G6PD-Tg males, but not females, presented a small but significant increase in brain protein carbonylation. In accordance with these findings, liver from 2-yea…
ChemInform Abstract: A Simple Procedure for the Oxidation of Alcohols Using [Bis(acetoxy)iodo]benzene and a Catalytic Amount of Bromide Ions in Ethyl…
2015
Primary and secondary benzylic alcohols and secondary aliphatic alcohols were oxidized to the corresponding aldehydes and ketones by using [bis(acetoxy)iodo]benzene (BAIB) and a catalytic amount of bromide ions, from tetrabutylammonium bromide or KBr, in ethyl acetate. The catalytic role of the bromide ions was also highlighted in the oxidation of primary aliphatic alcohols and secondary allylic alcohols carried out in the presence of 1 mol% TEMPO.
Support effect on the catalytic performance of Au/Co3O4–CeO2 catalysts for CO and CH4 oxidation
2008
Gold-based catalysts supported on Co3O4, on CeO2 and on mixed Co3O4-CeO2 oxides were prepared by co-precipitation. They were tested in the catalytic oxidation of CO and CH4, in separate tests, and their activities were compared with that of the bare oxides. Tests of CH4 oxidation were performed in two consecutive runs in order to evaluate the catalysts stability. The effect of SO2 in the reactant mixture was investigated. The fresh and spent catalysts were analsed by XRD, BET, TPR and XPS techniques. Among the fresh catalysts, Au supported on CeO2 was the most active in CO oxidation whereas Au supported on Co3O4 was the most active for methane total oxidation. Synergy between the two oxides…
