Gardening was an important part of the daily duties within several of the religious orders in Europe during the Middle Ages. The rule of Saint Benedict specified that the monastery should, if possible, contain a garden within itself, and before and above all things, special care should be taken of the sick, so that they may be served in very deed, as Christ himself. Aim The aim was to decipher Europe‐wide spatio‐temporal patterns of forest growth dynamics and their associations with carbon isotope fractionation processes inferred from tree rings as modulated by climate warming. A new population of the Argentinian endemic Riella choconensis Hässel (Riellaceae, Marchantiophyta) was discovered from a culture of sediments from the Laguna de los Juncos (Río Negro province, Argentina). This species was known previously from two nearby collections, made in 1984, in the type locality at the Ramos Mexía reservoir (Neuquén province) and was not recorded since.
