Correlations of blood selenium with hematological parameters in West German adults.

The serum selenium and the whole blood selenium of 72 healthy persons (47 women, 25 men) was determined. There exist sex specific differences of the whole blood selenium between men (98 +/- 19 micrograms Se/L) and women (89 +/- 17 micrograms Se/L). The serum selenium did not show sex specific differences, but sex specific differences are found if the total amount of extracellular selenium is calculated by correction of the serum selenium with the hematocrit. Women have more extra-cellular selenium/L whole blood (40 +/- 8 micrograms Se) than men (36 +/- 7 micrograms Se). Microstructure Characteristics of Unsaturated Compacted Scaly Clay

Microstructure characteristics of unsaturated compacted scaly clay are investigated by MIP tests on freeze dried samples and observation of SEM photomicrographs. Effects of scale microstructure and increasing compaction stresses, and microstructure changes induced by loading and unloading paths and clay saturation are analysed.

Background Green synthesis of nanomaterials finds the edge over chemical methods due to its environmental compatibility. Herein, we report green synthesis of silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) mediated with dextran. Dextran was used as a stabilizer and capping agent to synthesize Ag NPs using silver nitrate (AgNO3) under diffused sunlight conditions. Results UV–vis spectra of as synthesized Ag nanoparticles showed characteristic surface plasmon band in the range from ~405-452 nm. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM) studies showed spherical Ag NPs in the size regime of ~50-70 nm. Reading of doubtful patch test reactions can be improved by comparing them to defined negative, allergic and irritant controls. For the latter, an irritant patch test is needed that gives sufficiently reproducible results. In our double-blind, placebo-controlled. randomized study, we have analysed the synchronous reproducibility of patch tests with 0%, 0.0625%, 0.125%, 0.25%, 0.5% and 1.0% sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS). Tests and readings were done according to ESCD guidelines. 139 patients (75 women, 64 men) 18 to 77 years old were tested. Krāsu redzes jutības izmaiņas pirms un pēc kataraktas operācijas

Bakalaura darbs ir uzrakstīts latviešu valodā uz 32 lapaspusēm. Darbs sastāv no ievada, teorētiskās un praktiskās daļas. Tas satur 23 attēlus, 1 tabulas un 35 atsauces uz literatūras avotiem. Darba mērķis ir noteikt, kā izmainās krāsu redzes jutība pacientiem pirms un pēc kataraktas operācijas. Darbā tika izmantots Farnsworth-Munsell 100 nokrāsu tests. Pētījuma piedalījās 30 dalībnieki, kuru uzdevums bija salikt pareizā secībā 85 krāsainus žetonus ar pakāpeniski mainīgu krāsu toni. Ar testa palīdzību tika novērtēta pētījuma dalībnieku spēja atšķirt krāsu toņus. Pētījuma rezultāti liecina par to, ka pacientiem pirms un divas nedēļas pēc kataraktas operācijas nenovēro krāsu redzes jutības izm…
Simulētas kataraktas ietekme uz krāsu redzes jutību

Maģistra darbs ir uzrakstīts latviešu valodā uz 47 lapaspusēm. Tas satur 25 attēlus, 6 tabulas, 13 pielikumus un 57 atsauces uz literatūras avotiem. Darba mērķis ir izvērtēt krāsu redzes jutības izmaiņas 2 vecuma grupās, izmantojot 7 filtrus ar dažādiem absorbcijas spektriem. Rezultāti: Ar Farnsworth D – 15 krāsu redzes testu, tika noteikta krāsu izšķirtspēja pie 7 dažādiem gaismu absorbējošiem filtriem. Iegūtie rezultāti parāda, ka filtri simulē kataraktai raksturīgās patoloģijas, kas rada krāsu izšķirtspējas izmaiņas tritan defekta virzienā. N-Cinnamoyltetraketide Derivatives from the Leaves of Toussaintia orientalis

Seven N-cinnamoyltetraketides (1−7), including the new Ztoussaintine E (2), toussaintine F (6), and toussaintine G (7), were isolated from the methanol extract of the leaves of Toussaintia orientalis using column chromatography and HPLC. The configurations of E-toussaintine E (1) and toussaintines A (3) and D (5) are revised based on single-crystal X-ray diffraction data from racemic crystals. Both the crude methanol extract and the isolated constituents exhibit antimycobacterial activities (MIC 83.3−107.7 μM) against the H37Rv strain of Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
