Effects of Administration of Glycoprotein IIb/IIIa Receptor Antagonists in Patients with Failed Thrombolysis
2001
Aim To evaluate the effectiveness of glycoprotein (GP) IIb/IIIa receptor antagonists in patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) who have undergone unsuccessful thrombolysis.
Synthesis of porphyrin-bis(polyazamacrocycle) triads via Suzuki coupling reaction
2014
Suzuki–Miyaura cross-coupling reaction has been used for the synthesis of tricyclic architectures based on trans-A2B2-porphyrins and bisaminal-protected polyazamacrocycles which are linked directly or by a p-phenylene spacer. This modular approach allowed the synthesis of ligands with various substituted porphyrin macrocycles and bisaminal-protected tetraazamacrocycles possessing different cavity sizes. These molecules can be assembled into dimers using a DABCO linker. Deprotection of these compounds afforded porphyrin-bis(polyazamacrocycle) triads.
Substrate specificity overlap and interaction between Adrenoleukodystrophy protein (ALDP/ABCD1) and Adrenoleukodystrophy-related protein (ALDRP/ABCD2)
2011
X-linked adrenoleukodystrophy (X-ALD) is a neurodegenerative disorder caused by mutations in the ABCD1 gene, which encodes a peroxisomal member of the ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporter subfamily D called ALDP. ALDP is supposed to function as a homodimer allowing the entry of CoA-esters of very-long chain fatty acids (VLCFA) into the peroxisome, the unique site of their β-oxidation. ALDP deficiency can be corrected by overexpression of ALDRP, its closest homolog. However, the exact nature of the substrates transported by ALDRP and its relationships with ALDP still remain unclear. To gain insight into the function of ALDRP, we used cell models allowing the induction in a dose-dependent m…
Multixenobiotic resistance efflux activity in Daphnia magna and Lumbriculus variegatus
2015
Multixenobiotic resistance is a phenomenon in which ATP-binding cassette (ABC) family proteins transfer harmful compounds out of cells. Daphnia magna and Lumbriculus variegatus are model species in aquatic ecotoxicology, but the presence and activity of ABC proteins have not been well described in these species. The aim of this work was to study the presence, activity, and inhibition of ABC transport proteins in D. magna and L. variegatus. The presence of abcb1 and abcc transcripts in 8–9-day-old D. magna was investigated by qRT-PCR. The activity of MXR in D. magna and L. variegatus was explored by influx of the fluorescent ABC protein substrates rhodamine B and calcein-AM, with and without…

Background: ABCB1 (P-glycoprotein) and ABCG2 (breast cancer resistance protein) are co-localized at the blood-brain barrier (BBB), where they restrict the brain distribution of many different drugs. Moreover, ABCB1 and possibly ABCG2 play a role in Alzheimer’s disease (AD) by mediating the brain clearance of beta-amyloid (Aβ) across the BBB. This study aimed to compare the abundance and activity of ABCG2 in a commonly used β-amyloidosis mouse model (APP/PS1-21) with age-matched wild-type mice. Methods: The abundance of ABCG2 was assessed by semi-quantitative immunohistochemical analysis of brain slices of APP/PS1-21 and wild-type mice aged 6 months. Moreover, the brain distribution of two d…
Effectiveness of an exercise training program on youth with Asperger syndrome
2009
Although exercise training programs are effective in improving physical fitness and motor competence in typically developing youth, insufficient data of the impact of interventions are available in youth with Asperger syndrome (AS). The purpose of this study was to examine the efficacy of an exercise program as part of an ongoing vocational training program for adolescents with AS on motor competence and physical fitness. Twenty adolescents with AS (mean age = 16.8yrs) were enrolled in this study. A quasi-experimental nonequivalent-control-group design with a follow-up measurement over a period of six months was followed. The intervention group received a 12-week physical exercise program f…
A Five-Step Vascular Ultrasound Examination in Heart Failure: The First Two Years of the "ABCDE" G-SIUMB Multicenter Study 2018-2022.
2020
The aim of this study is the creation of a 5-step ultrasound examination to evaluate and monitor Heart Failure (HF) patients during hospitalization and follow-up. “ABCDE” is the acronym of an Italian multicentre study composed of a consecutive sample of HF patients admitted from the Emergency to the Internal Medicine/Geriatric Departments of several Italian hospitals. The “ABCDE” score includes the evaluations of A, the Ankle-brachial index (ABI), B, the B-lines, C, the Carotid intima media thickness (CIMT), D, the Diameter of the abdominal aorta and of the inferior cave vein and E, the echocardiographic assessment of the ejection fraction. This paper reports the preliminary results. Up to …
