A Bioinspired Dinickel(II) Hydrolase: Solvent Vapor-Induced Hydrolysis of Carboxyesters under Ambient Conditions

2016

From the perspective of synthetic metallohydrolases, a phenoxo-bridged dinickel(II) complex [NiII2(L)(H2O)2(CH3OH)][ClO4]·CH3OH (1) (H3L = 2,6-bis[{{(5-bromo-2-hydroxybenzyl)(N′,N″-(dimethylamino)ethyl)}amino}methyl]-4-methylphenol) has been synthesized and structurally characterized. The presence of a vacant coordination site and a weakly bound water molecule provides the scope for substrate binding to act as a metallohydrolase model. Ethyl acetate vapor diffusion at 298 K to a CH3CN/CH3OH solution of 1 results in the formation of a pentanuclear acetato-bridged complex [NiII5(H2L)2(μ3-OH)2(μ-O2CCH3)4][ClO4]2·CH3CO2C2H5 (2), demonstrating for the first time the metal-coordinated water-promo…

Metallic lead recovery from lead-acid battery paste by urea acetate dissolution and cementation on iron

2009

Abstract A suitable hydrometallurgical and environmentally friendly process was studied to replace the currently used practices for recycling lead-acid batteries via smelting. Metallic lead was recovered by cementation from industrial lead sludge solutions of urea acetate (200 to 500 g/L) using different types of metallic iron substrates (nails, shaving or powder) as reducing agents. Under specific operating conditions, up to 99.7% of lead acid battery paste, mainly composed of PbSO4, PbO2 and PbO·PbSO4 species, was converted to metallic lead.. The conversion of the metallic lead and rate of the cementation reaction were strictly dependent on the type of iron substrate used as the reductant…

The Pyridyl Functional Groups Guide the Formation of Pd Nanoparticles Inside A Porous Poly(4-Vinyl-Pyridine)

2015

The reactivity of palladium acetate inside a poly(4-vinylpyridine-co-divinylbenzene) polymer is strongly influenced by the establishment of interaction between the Pd precursor and the pyridyl functional group in the polymer. Diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy (DRIFTS) and simultaneous X-ray absorption near edge structure (XANES) and small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) techniques have been applied to monitor the reactivity of palladium acetate in the presence of H-2 and CO as a function of temperature. H-2 reduces palladium acetate to Pd nanoparticles and acetic acid. The pyridyl groups in the polymer play a vital role both in stabilizing the formed acetic acid, thu…

Liquid structure and dynamics in the choline acetate:urea 1:2 deep eutectic solvent

2021

We report on the thermodynamic, structural, and dynamic properties of a recently proposed deep eutectic solvent, formed by choline acetate (ChAc) and urea (U) at the stoichiometric ratio 1:2, hereinafter indicated as ChAc:U. Although the crystalline phase melts at 36-38 degrees C depending on the heating rate, ChAc:U can be easily supercooled at sub-ambient conditions, thus maintaining at the liquid state, with a glass-liquid transition at about -50 degrees C. Synchrotron high energy x-ray scattering experiments provide the experimental data for supporting a reverse Monte Carlo analysis to extract structural information at the atomistic level. This exploration of the liquid structure of ChA…

A novel high-spin heterometallic Ni12K4cluster incorporating large Ni–azide circles and an in situ cyanomethylated di-2-pyridyl ketone

2005

Reaction of di-2-pyridyl ketone (dpk) with nickel acetate and azide in the presence of potassium tert-butylate as a catalytic base generates the title compound, which contains the largest [Ni(m1,1-N3)]6 circles in the discrete ferromagnetically-coupled MII–azide cluster family, and shows an unprecedented in situ cyanomethylation of ketone. Functionalized 2-azabicyclo[3.3.1]nonanes. IV. synthesis of the indolo[3,2-f]morphan system.

1982

Abstract A short route to the 2-azabicyclo[3.3.1]nonan-7-one system is described. Condensation of 4-piperidones with diethyl 2-oxopropylphosphonate, followed by catalytic hydrogenation furnished the corresponding piperidylpropanones 6 which were cyclized with mercuric acetate in acetic acid to the target target bicyclic ketones 1 . The Fischer indole synthesis from 1 a afforded regioselectively the indole [3,2-f]morphan 2 , a new heteromorphan type.

General approach for the analysis of various alkaloid classes using capillary electrophoresis and capillary electrophoresis-mass spectrometry

1997

Abstract The analysis of various alkaloid classes employing capillary electrophoresis (CE) and on-line combined CE-mass spectrometry (CE-MS) is described. A CE method is presented for the analysis of alkaloids without derivatisation or purification. The separation of four different groups of alkaloids consisting of monoterpenoid indole alkaloids, protoberberines/benzophenanthridines, β-carboline alkaloids, and isoquinolines from poppy by free zone capillary electrophoresis has been obtained using a 1:1 mixture of 100 mmol 1 −1 ammonium acetate (pH 3.1) and acetonitrile. The influence of alkaloid structure on the electrophoretic mobility is discussed. The CE-MS reconstructed total ion curren…

Diacylglycerols containing Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids bind to RasGRP and modulate MAP kinase activation.

2003

We elucidated the effects of different diacylglycerols (DAGs), i.e. 1-stearoyl-2-arachidonoyl-sn-glycerol (SAG), 1-stearoyl-2-docosahexaenoyl-sn-glycerol (SDG), and 1-stearoyl-2-eicosapentaenoyl-sn-glycerol (SEG), on [3H]PDBu binding to RasGRP. The competition studies with these DAGs on [3H]PDBu binding to RasGRP revealed different Ki values for these DAG molecular species. Furthermore, we transfected human Jurkat T cells by a plasmid containing RasGRP and assessed the implication of endogenous DAGs on activation of MAP kinases ERK1/ERK2, induced by phorbol-12-myristate-13-acetate (PMA). In control cells, GF109203X, a protein kinase C inhibitor, inhibited ERK1/ERK2 activation. However, this…

(Ni2), (Ni3), and (Ni2 + Ni3): A Unique Example of Isolated and Cocrystallized Ni2 and Ni3 Complexes

2009

Structural and magnetic characterization of compound {[Ni(2)(L)(2)(OAc)(2)][Ni(3)(L)(2)(OAc)(4)]}.2CH(3)CN (3) (HL = the tridentate Schiff base ligand, 2-[(3-methylamino-propylimino)-methyl]-phenol) shows that it is a rare example of a crystal incorporating a dinuclear Ni(II) compound, [Ni(2)(L)(2)(OAc)(2)], and a trinuclear one, [Ni(3)(L)(2)(OAc)(4)]. Even more unusual is the fact that both Ni(II) complexes, [Ni(2)(L)(2)(OAc)(2)] (1) and [Ni(3)(L)(2)(OAc)(4)(H(2)O)(2)].CH(2)Cl(2).2CH(3)OH (2), have also been isolated and structurally and magnetically characterized. The structural analysis reveals that the dimeric complexes [Ni(2)(L)(2)(OAc)(2)] in cocrystal 3 and in compound 1 are almost i…
