Adaptation and validation for Spain of the Child-Oral Impact on Daily Performance (C-OIDP) for use with adolescents.
2010
Objectives. To linguistically and culturally adapt the Child-OIDP, an Oral Health-Related Quality of Life (OHRQoL) index, into Spanish for use among adolescents, and to validate it by evaluating the psychometric properties of the self-administered version. Study design. Following a forward - backward translation procedure, the English version of the questionnaire was translated by independent translators and the reconciled version was then sent to three experts for assessment. A pilot study was conducted on a sub-sample of 30 adolescents aged between 11 - 12 years to assess their understanding of the questionnaire and its wording. The participants in the main study comprised 425 school chil…
Reliability and Validity Study of the Finnish Adaptation of Scoliosis Research Society Questionnaire Version SRS-30
2017
Study design A prospective clinical study to test and adapt a Finnish version of the Scoliosis Research Society 30 (SRS-30) questionnaire. Objective The aim of this study was to perform cross-cultural adaptation and evaluate the validity of the adapted Finnish version of the SRS-30 questionnaire. Summary of background data The SRS-30 questionnaire has proved to be a valid instrument in evaluating health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in adolescent and adult population with spine deformities in the United States. Multinational availability requires cross-cultural and linguistic adaptation and validation of the instrument. Methods The SRS-30 was translated into Finnish using accepted methods…
HIDRAdisk: validation of an innovative visual tool to assess the burden of hidradenitis suppurativa
2019
Background: Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic, relapsing, inflammatory skin disease characterized by painful inflamed nodules, recurrent abscesses and fistulas located in apocrine gland–bearing body sites. The negative impact of HS on patient's quality of life (QoL) has been reported to be greater than other dermatologic conditions as psoriasis and atopic eczema, and its improvement is an important goal in disease management. Nowadays, there are no specific validated QoL instruments available for HS and generic dermatologic questionnaires are used. Objective: The objective of this study was to demonstrate the validity, reliability and responsiveness of HIDRAdisk, a new innovative t…
Gemcitabine and docetaxel every 2 weeks in advanced non-small cell lung cancer: a phase II study of the Gruppo Oncologico Italia Meridionale
2002
Abstract Introduction: Platinum-based chemotherapy is the gold standard in advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), although with relevant toxic effects. Both docetaxel (DCT) and gemcitabine (GEM) have shown activity as single agent in advanced NSCLC with a different toxicity profile and a lack of cross-resistance. Materials and methods: From April 2000 to May 2001, 47 consecutive patients were enrolled in a multicenter phase II trial. Main inclusion criteria included untreated patients with histologically confirmed NSCLC, age⩽70 years, stage IIIB/IV, Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status (PS) 0–2, measurable disease, adequate hematologic, cardiac, hepatic and renal func…
A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled phase 2 study of tigatuzumab (CS-1008) in combination with carboplatin/paclitaxel in patients with che…
2013
Abstract Introduction Tigatuzumab, a humanized monoclonal DR5 agonist antibody induces apoptosis in human cancer cell lines. The objective of this study was to investigate the antitumor effects of tigatuzumab combined with carboplatin/paclitaxel in chemotherapy-naive patients with metastatic/unresectable non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Methods Patients with histologically or cytologically confirmed NSCLC stage IIIB/IV disease by RECIST (version 1.0) and ECOG-PS 0–1 were enrolled at 15 European sites. Patients received tigatuzumab or placebo intravenously with carboplatin/paclitaxel every 3 weeks (1 cycle) for up to 6 cycles. The primary end point was progression-free survival (PFS). Sec…
Hypersensitivity to clavulanic acid in children
2008
We present 10 cases (6 males and 4 females) of children aged 4 to 12 years, who were diagnosed with allergy to clavulanic acid (CL) and treated in the Paediatric Allergy Section of the University Hospital Dr. Peset in Valencia from 2000 to 2005. The children reported symptoms of urticaria and angio-oedema after receiving orally-administered amoxicillin/clavulanic acid (A-CL) for an infection. Diagnosis was based on the confirmation of an IgE-mediated aetiology by an oral challenge test with amoxicillin-clavulanic acid. Following negative skin test results and CAP for penicilloyl G and V, amoxicillin, ampicillin and cefaclor < 0.35 KU/l, those patients who were allergic to clavulanic acid (p…
Validation of a Model for Identification of Patients at Intermediate to High Risk for Complications Associated With Acute Symptomatic Pulmonary Embol…
2015
For patients with acute symptomatic pulmonary embolism (PE), the Bova score classifies their risk for PE-related complications within 30 days after diagnosis. The original Bova score was derived from 2,874 normotensive patients with acute PE who participated in one of six prospective PE studies. We retrospectively assessed the validity of the Bova risk model in normotensive patients with acute PE diagnosed in an academic urban ED. Two clinician investigators used baseline data for the model's four prognostic variables to stratify patients into the three Bova risk stages (I-III) for 30-day PE-related complications. Intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) and the κ statistic were used to asse…
Reliability of a new analysis to compute time to stabilization following a single leg drop jump landing in children.
2019
Although a number of different methods have been proposed to assess the time to stabilization (TTS), none is reliable in every axis and no tests of this type have been carried out on children. The purpose of this study was thus to develop a new computational method to obtain TTS using a time-scale (frequency) approach [i.e. continuous wavelet transformation (WAV)] in children. Thirty normally-developed children (mean age 10.16 years, SD = 1.52) participated in the study. Every participant performed 30 single-leg drop jump landings with the dominant lower limb (barefoot) on a force plate from three different heights (15cm, 20cm and 25cm). Five signals were used to compute the TTS: i) Raw, ii…
THE EFFECTS OF AGING ON DOPAMINERGIC NEUROTRANSMISSION A microPET STUDY OF [11C]-raclopride BINDING IN THE AGED RODENT BRAIN
2010
Rodent models are frequently used in aging re search to investigate biochemical age effects and aid in the development of therapies for pathological and non pathological age related degenerative processes In order to validate the use of animal models in aging research and pave the way for longitudinal intervention based animal studies, the consistency of cerebral aging processes across species needs to be evaluated The dopaminergic system seems particularly susceptible to the aging process, and one of the most consistent findings in human brain aging research is a decline in striatal D2-like receptor (D2R) availability, quantifiable by positron emission tomography (PET) imaging In this stud…
Test-retest repeatability of questionnaire for pain symptoms for school children aged 10–15 years
2019
Abstract Background and aims There is a growing body of evidence, that pain is common at school age. Less is known about the repeatability of pain questionnaires for children. This study aimed to assess the test-retest repeatability of the Finnish version of the electronic pain questionnaire for school-aged children. Methods Primary (n = 79) and lower secondary (n = 127) schoolchildren aged 10–15 years from two schools from the Jyväskylä region of Finland, filled in an electronic questionnaire twice in an interval of 2 weeks. It captured the frequency of pain symptoms with a five-point Likert-scale questionnaire covering nine areas of the body for the last 3 months. The intraclass correlati…
