Systematic review of the diagnosis of gastric premalignant conditions and neoplasia with high-resolution endoscopic technologies

2013

Aim. The aim of the article is to systematically review the current evidence on the diagnostic use of narrow band imaging (NBI), flexible spectral imaging color enhancement (FICE) and endoscopic image enhancement technology i-scan endoscopies for gastric precancerous and cancerous lesions. Materials and methods. Original manuscripts were searched in PubMed until October 2012. Pertinent data were collected and pooled diagnostic accuracy measures were estimated when possible. Results. In total, 38 studies were evaluated. Thirty-one studies were included for NBI and 7 studies for FICE assessment in this systematic review. No article was found meeting inclusion criteria for i-scan endoscopy. Th…

Clinical Management of Cutaneous Adverse Events in Patients on Chemotherapy: A National Consensus Statement by the Spanish Academy of Dermatology and…

2019

Although the arrival of new chemotherapy drugs and combinations has brought progress in terms of cancer patient survival, they entail many adverse effects that can compromise treatment, and hence prognosis, of the disease. Cytostatic agents can cause dermatological toxicity, among other side effects. The most familiar adverse effect of chemotherapy is alopecia. Although not serious, this changes the outward appearance of cancer patients. Other adverse effects include hypersensitivity and photosensitivity reactions, hand-foot syndrome, epidermal necrolysis, recall reactions, scleroderma-like reactions, Raynaud's phenomenon, eccrine squamous syringometaplasia, neutrophilic eccrine hidradeniti…

Effekt von Calcium und Magnesium auf die Parathormonfreisetzung aus humanem Parathyreoidea-Gewebe in vitro

1982

The effects of calcium and magnesium on parathyroid hormone release from eight adenomas causing primary hyperparathyroidism and six hyperplastic glands causing hypercalcemic secondary hyperparathyroidism were investigated in vitro using single cell suspensions from the respective tissue. We observed suppression of parathyroid hormone release with increasing concentrations of either cation. The quantitative hormone secretions of both adenomatous and hyperplastic glands was identical.

Inhibition of ovarian steroidogenesis by cyclic-GMP in a fly

2003

1479-6805 0022-0795; Previous investigations in the female blowfly Phormia regina have shown that 3-isobutyl-1-methylxanthine (IBMX), a broad spectrum inhibitor of phosphodiesterases (PDEs), fails to mimic the steroidogenic effects of cAMP on ovaries, although it efficiently increases the concentrations of this second messenger. In this study, experiments carried out to clear up this contradiction demonstrated that IBMX, besides its effect on cAMP, also increased cGMP concentrations in blowfly ovary and that these two cyclic nucleotides controlled ovarian steroidogenesis antagonistically. In particular, a selective inhibitor of cGMP-specific PDEs, unlike IBMX, had a very strong negative eff…

Arterial thrombosis in Philadelphia-negative myeloproliferative neoplasms predicts second cancer: a case-control study.

2020

Abstract Patients with Philadelphia-negative myeloproliferative neoplasm (MPN) are prone to the development of second cancers, but the factors associated with these events have been poorly explored. In an international nested case-control study, we recruited 647 patients with carcinoma, nonmelanoma skin cancer, hematological second cancer, and melanoma diagnosed concurrently or after MPN diagnosis. Up to 3 control patients without a history of cancer and matched with each case for center, sex, age at MPN diagnosis, date of diagnosis, and MPN disease duration were included (n = 1234). Cases were comparable to controls for MPN type, driver mutations and cardiovascular risk factors. The freque…

Gastrin: an acid-releasing, proliferative and immunomodulatory peptide?

2010

Gastrin release is affected by gastric inflammatory conditions. Antral G cells respond to inflammatory mediators by increasing gastrin secretion. Accumulating experimental evidence suggests that gastrin exerts immunomodulatory and proinflammatory effects. Gastrin could be a contributing factor to these pathologies, which may constitute a new justification for pharmacological blockade of gastrin action.

In vivo inhibition of AChE activity in the European eel Anguilla anguilla exposed to technical grade fenitrothion.

1998

European eel (Anguilla anguilla) were exposed to sublethal fenitrothion concentrations in a continuous flow-through system for 4 days. Plasma acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activity was evaluated after 2, 8, 12, 24, 32, 48, 56, 72 and 96 h pesticide exposure. AChE activity in the plasma of the eel decreased as concentration of fenitrothion increased. Pesticide induced significant inhibitory effects on the AChE activity of A. anguilla ranging from 51% inhibition at sublethal concentration of 0.02 ppm to 57% inhibition at sublethal concentration of 0.04 ppm. Eel were exposed to both fenitrothion concentrations for 96 h and then allowed a period of recovery in pesticide-free water. Following 1 we…

Impact of CT and MR on the Diagnostic Evaluation of Neurologic and Neurosurgical Diseases

1989

Today CT and MR are considered to be the most important and most reliable methods for the diagnosis of brain tumors. The sensitivity of these modalities in the detection of intracranial tumors approaches 100%. The extraordinary value of both methods is based not only on this high detection rate but also on their ability to localize tumors in relation to vital centers, assess their mass effect, and establish the tissue type of the lesion (= specificity).

Robotic Hysterectomy in Severely Obese Patients With Endometrial Cancer: A Multicenter Study

2015

Abstract Study Objective The aim of this study was to evaluate the surgical and oncologic outcomes of robotic hysterectomy with or without or less pelvic and aortic lymphadenectomy in severely obese patients (body mass index [BMI] ≥ 40 kg/m 2 ) with endometrial cancer. Material and Methods Between August 2010 and November 2014, patients with histologically confirmed endometrial cancer and BMI ≥40 kg/m 2 were deemed eligible for the study and underwent RH with or without pelvic and aortic lymphadenectomy. Results Seventy patients were divided into 3 groups according to their BMI: group A, BMI between 40 and 45 kg/m 2 (50 patients); group B, BMI between 45 and 50 kg/m 2 (10 patients); and gro…
