La pratica della traduzione culturale è intesa in questo lavoro come strumento di riscrittura del sé e di riformulazione di identità migranti collocate nelle letterature della migrazione in lingua inglese, dove la rappresentazione della condizione di homesickness enfatizza lo stato di sofferenza e il senso di disagio. In particolare, sono presi n esame i racconti della scrittrice sudanese "Coloured Lights" pubblicati a Edinburgo dalla casa editrice Polygon nel 2001 ed è sui testi di questa edizione che sono state effettuate le presenti traduzioni in lingua italiana.

The Prince is counted among those political works which gave rise to modern political science. Linguists have shown how the writing technique, that makes The Prince a unique work, is one of the main instruments used by Machiavelli to persuade his addressee to adopt the political tactics he was recommending. Graphic Medicine as a Didactic Tool for Training Medical Translators: a comparative analysis in French and Spanish

The use of comics to communicate health-related topics has aroused growing interest in their translation from English, as well as from other languagessuch as French. Acknowledging the twofold challenge posed by a medium and a language combination that have seldom been explored in medical translation training, we will compare and contrast the Spanish translation of the French comic L’incroyable histoire de la médecine to make a didactic contribution to the training of medical translators. We will study the iconographic and textual codes present in the comic before presenting a proposal for its use in educational settings.

When Investment in Basic Skills Gives Negative Returns

In recent years, the Norwegian government has invested heavily in improving basic skills in the adult population. Initiatives have included legislation, the introduction of work-based adult education programs, and reforms in schooling. In light of this investment, we explore trends in adult literacy and numeracy, by comparing data from two international surveys of adult skills, conducted in 2003 and 2012. Paradoxically, the proportion of low-performing adults appears to have increased, most significantly in the 16- to 24-year age group and in the foreign-born population.
