An odor timer in milk? Synchrony in the odor of milk effluvium and neonatal chemosensation in the mouse.

International audience; Mammalian newborns exhibit avid responsiveness to odor compounds emanating from conspecific milk. Milk is however developmentally heterogeneous in composition as a function of both evolved constraints and offspring demand. The present study aimed to verify whether milk odor attractivity for neonates is equally distributed along lactation in Mus musculus (Balb-c strain). Therefore, we exposed pups varying in age to milk samples collected from females in different lactational stages. I Vaticana fragmenta a due secoli dalla riscoperta

Two centuries have passed since the palimpsest that transmits a Roman legal work known as the Vaticana fragmenta was rediscovered by Angelo Mai in the Vatican Apostolic Library in Rome. This paper reviews the main issues relating to this work and suggests some reasons why a new edition of the text is desirable. 1820 hat Angelo Mai in der Vatikanischen Apostolischen Bibliothek in Rom ein Palimpsest wiederentdeckt, welches ein römisches Rechtswerk – die so genannte Vaticana Fragmenta – überliefert. 200 Jahre sind seitdem genau vergangen. Dieser Beitrag gibt einen Überblick über die wichtigsten Aspekte dieses Werks und zeigt Gründe auf, warum eine neue Ausgabe dieses Textes wünschenswert ist.

Counterdiabatic vortex pump in spinor Bose-Einstein condensates

Topological phase imprinting is a well-established technique for deterministic vortex creation in spinor Bose-Einstein condensates of alkali metal atoms. It was recently shown that counter-diabatic quantum control may accelerate vortex creation in comparison to the standard adiabatic protocol and suppress the atom loss due to nonadiabatic transitions. Here we apply this technique, assisted by an optical plug, for vortex pumping to theoretically show that sequential phase imprinting up to 20 cycles generates a vortex with a very large winding number. Changes in Body Composition in Anorexia Nervosa : Predictors of Recovery and Treatment Outcome

The restoration of body composition (BC) parameters is considered to be one of the most important goals in the treatment of patients with anorexia nervosa (AN). However, little is known about differences between AN diagnostic subtypes [restricting (AN-R) and binge/purging (AN-BP)] and weekly changes in BC during refeeding treatment. Therefore, the main objectives of our study were twofold: 1) to assess the changes in BC throughout nutritional treatment in an AN sample and 2) to analyze predictors of BC changes during treatment, as well as predictors of treatment outcome. ABSTRACT: The aim of this research was to study the drying kinetics of apple and zucchini slices enriched with anthocyanins and to evaluate the influence of drying temperature on the anthocyanin content of apple and zucchini snacks. Apple (Granny Smith) and zucchini (Cucurbita pepo) slices were enriched with anthocyanins by vacuum impregnation with blueberry juice. Then, slices were dehydrated at 40, 50 and 60 ºC with 1.0 m/s air flow. Dehydrated samples were referred to as anthocyanin enriched snacks. Investigation on the influence of spray-drying technology on the quality of Sicilian Nero d’Avola wines

The purpose of the present work was to find a correlation between microencapsulation technology applied to wines and the resulting quality of the wine itself in terms of volatile composition and phenolic profile. In vitro Antifungal Activity of Biopolymeric Foam Activated with Carvacrol

Background: Active packaging represents a defining strategy to improve food quality and safety of the packaged foods. This study aimed to evaluate the in vitro ability of commercial biopolymeric foams, namely Mater-Bi (MB), activated with 20% of carvacrol, to develop a completely biodegradable and compostable packaging to inhibit the growth of spoilage and pathogenic yeasts.
