Longitudinal changes in genetic and environmental influences on older women's walking ability
2009
This study examined the stability and change over time in genetic and environmental influences on walking ability among older women. Maximal walking speed over 10 m and 6-min walking endurance test were measured under standard conditions at baseline and 3 years later. At both times, 63 monozygotic (MZ) and 67 dizygotic (DZ) twin pairs were measured for walking speed and 58 MZ and 56 DZ pairs for walking endurance. Participants were twin sisters reared together and aged 63-75 years at baseline. Genetic and environmental influences were examined using longitudinal genetic modelling. The results showed that walking speed was preserved from baseline to follow-up. Genetic influences on walking s…
The influence of water and of alkali promotor on the carbon number distribution of fischer-tropsch products formed over iron catalysts
1987
The carbon number distribution of Fischer-Tropsch products formed over an alkalized precipitated iron catalyst has been studied as a function of the water vapor pressure of the synthesis gas. The carbon number distribution of formed hydrocarbons is characterized by a bimodal Schulz-Flory distribution of growth probabilities P1 ≈ 0.6 and P2 ≈ 0.87 attributed to unpromoted and promoted (alkalized) sites on the catalyst surface. Promoted sites are more stable with respect to oxidation (deactivation) by water than unpromoted sites. The growth probability of unpromoted sites decreases with increasing ratio P/P — Studies using Mossbauer spectroscopy have shown that iron foils treated with water c…
NMR studies of benzoannulation in lithium, sodium and potassium ortho-formylphenolates
2010
Abstract Lithium, sodium and potassium derivatives of (benzo)salicylaldehydes have been prepared and characterized by 1 H and 13 C NMR in order to see how the metal cation and benzoannulation affect spectral parameters. There is no qualitative effect of the alkali metal atom in the compounds studied (from this point of view salicylaldehydes remind β-diketones). On the other hand, 1 H chemical shifts of the hydroxyl and formyl protons and 13 C chemical shifts of C2 (bearing OX, X = H, Li, Na or K) and of that the formyl carbon show the most significant variations being the best indicators of aromatic character of the six-membered quasi-ring of salicylaldehyde. In contrast, C1 (bearing formyl…
Atomically Precise Alkynyl-Protected Metal Nanoclusters as a Model Catalyst: Observation of Promoting Effect of Surface Ligands on Catalysis by Metal…
2016
Metal nanoclusters whose surface ligands are removable while keeping their metal framework structures intact are an ideal system for investigating the influence of surface ligands on catalysis of metal nanoparticles. We report in this work an intermetallic nanocluster containing 62 metal atoms, Au34Ag28(PhC≡C)34, and its use as a model catalyst to explore the importance of surface ligands in promoting catalysis. As revealed by single-crystal diffraction, the 62 metal atoms in the cluster are arranged as a four-concentric-shell Ag@Au17@Ag27@Au17 structure. All phenylalkynyl (PA) ligands are linearly coordinated to the surface Au atoms with staple "PhC≡C-Au-C≡CPh" motif. Compared with reporte…
1,3-Dipolar cycloaddition of diaryldiazomethanes across N-ethoxy-carbonyl-N-(2,2,2-trichloroethylidene)amine and reactivity of the resulting 2-azabut…
2016
Abstract 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition of diaryldiazomethanes Ar2C N2 across Cl3C–CH N–CO2Et 1 yields Δ3-1,2,4-triazolines 2. Thermolysis of 2 leads, via transient azomethine ylides 3, to diaryldichloroazabutadienes [Ar(Ar')C N–CH CCl2] 4. Treatment of 4a (Ar = Ar' = C6H5) and 4c (Ar = Ar' = p-ClC6H4) with NaSR in DMF yields 2-azabutadienes [Ar2C N–C(H) C(SR)2] 5. In contrast, nucleophilic attack of NaStBu on 4 affords azadienic dithioethers [Ar2C N–C(StBu) C(H)(StBu)] (7a Ar = C6H5; 7b Ar' = p-ClC6H4). The reaction of 4a with NaSEt conducted in neat EtSH produces [Ph2C N–C(H)(SEt)–CCl2H] 8, which after dehydrochloration by NaOMe and subsequent addition of NaSEt is converted to [Ph2C N–C(SEt) C…
Zum polymorphismus der alkalischen phosphatase (EC3.1.3.1.)
1976
3. Die 66 untersuchten …
‘One-Pot’ Synthesis of Raumacline from Ajmaline
1993
For the alkaloid raumacline (2), which is a biotransformation product of ajmaline (1) in Rauwolfia serpentina cell cultures, an efficient ‘one-pot’ synthesis was developed using a NaBH4/riboflavin/light-mediated transformation of 1 into 2 with a total yield of 86%.
The structure of pumice: An XPS and27Al MAS NMR study
1992
In order to investigate the surface structure of pumice, an amorphous aluminosilicate, samples of pumice and of standards of silica and alumina have been studied by x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The effect of a mild acid leaching was also considered. The analysis of the Si 2p, Al 2p and O 1s photoelectron peaks and the Si KLL and O KLL Auger peaks indicated that pumice is formed by tetrahedral silica with some units being replaced by aluminate, AlO2−. The acid treatment decreases the alkali and the aluminate ions. X-ray photoelectron spectra of the valence band of pumices and of standards of Al2O3 and SiO2 agree with the core-level results. To support the conclusions from the XPS …
Influence of partial O 2 pressure on the adhesion, proliferation, and osteogenic differentiation of human dental pulp stem cells on β-tricalcium phos…
2018
Our purpose was to analyse the influence of O2 pressure on the adhesion, proliferation, and osteogenic differentiation of human dental pulp stem cells (DPSC) on 3-tricalcium phosphate (3-TCP) scaffold. DPSC isolated from extracted third molars were seeded on 3-TCP and cultured under 3% or 21% O2 pressure. Cell adhesion, proliferation, and differentiation over the biomaterial were evaluated at 7, 13, 18, and 23 days of culture. Cell adhesion was determined by light microscopy, proliferation by DNA quantification, and osteogenic differentiation by alkaline phosphatase activity analysis. All DPSC adhered to 3-TCP with both O2 conditions. Cell proliferation values were higher at 3% O2 in each t…
Orbital-controlled reactions catalysed by zeolites: Electrophilic alkylation of aromatics
1994
The role of orbital control in product selectivity during electrophilic aromatic alkylation catalysed by zeolites was studied both theoretically and experimentally. In order to discuss this, the alkylation of toluene and m-xylene by methanol was carried out on a series of large-pore zeolites (HY). The changes in the para to ortho ratio observed on changing the framework Si/Al ratio of the zeolites were related to ab initio molecular orbital calculations of the LUMO energy of structurally alike model clusters but containing different tetrahedral cations around the active site. The observed correlation is discussed in terms of the HSAB principle by taking into account the influence of the cat…
