Electronic structure of p-type ultraviolet-transparent conducting CuScO2 films

Abstract We investigate the electronic structure of CuScO 2 thin films grown on sapphire and mica substrates by pulsed laser deposition. X-ray diffraction and microanalysis confirm that the films have the expected delafossite crystal structure and stoichiometric proportions. The electronic structure is investigated by means of X-ray and ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy. Electronic states in the range 0–1350 eV are identified, making reference to theoretical density-of-states calculations up to 80 eV. Photoelectron spectra near the Fermi energy confirm the p-character of the films. Optical absorption spectroscopy shows that the films are transparent up to 3.7 eV and exhibit an intense …

Acidochromism of the luminescence of bis(4-pyridylethenyl)arenes

Abstract A series of C 2 -symmetrical bis[( E )-2-(4-pyridyl)ethenyl]arenes has been synthesised via two-fold PO-activated olefinations. 1,4-Benzene, 1,4-naphthalene, 9,10-anthracene and 2,2′-diphenyl were used as central units. These fluorescent compounds were freely soluble in common solvents. The absorption and the emission were sensitive towards solvent polarity and acid, in solution as well as in the solid state. Depending on the concentration of acid, protonation of the ground state and/or the excited state caused reductions of the fluorescence efficiencies, accompanied by bathochromic shifts of the absorption and the emission spectra of some chromophores. Miscibility of cyanine dyes in two-dimensional aggregates

Mixed aggregates of cyanine dyes at a charged lipid monolayer surface are studied by absorption spectroscopy, fluorescence microscopy and electron diffraction. We show that slight variations of the molecular structure can convert a system from being fully miscible to being immiscible, and also that the concentrations of dyes in the solution and in the crystal may deviate considerably. The different concentration in the solution and crystal was observed for a molecule where force field calculations indicated the existence of two isomers in solution and where probably only one fits into the lattice.

Ferricenium tetrachloroferrate(III)(1), one of the more frequently cited ferricenium salts, has recently attracted biomedical interest because of its pronounced antineoplastic activity against Ehrlich ascites murine tumor. In this paper, synthetic methods are reinvestigated in an effort to prepare pure(1) free from a common contaminant, diferriceniumμ-oxo-bis(trichloroferrate)(3). The oxodiferrate, or mixtures of this salt with(1), can readily be converted into pure(1) under acidic conditions. Fabrication and characterization of vacuum deposited fluorescein thin films

Simple vacuum evaporation technique for deposition of dyes on various solid surfaces has been developed. The method is compatible with conventional solvent-free nanofabrication processing enabling fabrication of nanoscale optoelectronic devices. Thin films of fluorescein were deposited on glass, fluorine-tin-oxide (FTO) coated glass with and without atomically layer deposited (ALD) nanocrystalline 20 nm thick anatase TiO2 coating. Modelling Aspects in Accumulative Roll Bonding process by Explicit Finite Element Analysis

Accumulative Roll-Bonding (ARB) process is a severe plastic deformation (SPD) process, capable of developing grains below 1 μm in diameter and improving mechanical properties of the material. In this study, the authors compared two different FE-codes with respect of its applicability for numerical analysis of the ARB process. Modelling this process was achieved using the explicit code for Abaqus/CAE both in 2D and 3D. The proposed model was used to assess the impact of ARB cycles on the final material properties. The purpose of this study was to investigate in vivo the gingival microcirculatory changes associated with endodontic treatment using the continuous wave of condensation technique. Halloysite/Keratin Nanocomposite for Human Hair Photoprotection Coating

We propose a novel keratin treatment of human hair by its aqueous mixtures with natural halloysite clay nanotubes. The loaded clay nanotubes together with free keratin produce micrometer-thick protective coating on hair. First, colloidal and structural properties of halloysite/keratin dispersions and the nanotube loaded with this protein were investigated. Above the keratin isoelectric point (pH = 4), the protein adsorption into the positive halloysite lumen is favored because of the electrostatic attractions.
