Methods: A search was performed of PEDro, CINAHL (ovid), PUBMED, Cochrane Controlled Trials Register and SPORTDiscus databases to identify relevant studies published between 1990 and 2007. Abstract Alkoxy-substituted 4-methylbenzylideneanilines 2a-f and their pyrimidine analogues 2g,h show an efficient selfcondensation in the alkaline medium KOC(CH 3 ) 3 /DMF. The totally stereoselective reaction yields 3a-h which are transformed by acidic work-up to 4a-h . A narrow distribution of the molecular weight can be achieved.

Analogs of juvenoid hormones are increasingly recommended for controlling insect pests in agriculture. One of these analogs, pyriproxyfen, was found to be very potent in inducing male production in Daphnia under laboratory conditions, even after acute exposure. Other studies also demonstrated a major role of juvenoid hormones for the sex determination in arthropods that have sex chromosomes. We exposed parthenogenetic lineages of the freshwater ostracod Eucypris virens to a wide range of pyriproxyfen concentrations, and compared mortality and fecundity between treated and control animals. Nonlocal density correlations as a signature of Hawking radiation from acoustic black holes

We have used the analogy between gravitational systems and nonhomogeneous fluid flows to calculate the density-density correlation function of an atomic Bose-Einstein condensate in the presence of an acoustic black hole. The emission of correlated pairs of phonons by Hawking-like process results into a peculiar long-range density correlation. Quantitative estimations of the effect are provided for realistic experimental configurations.
Some considerations on Hydra groups and a new bound for the length of words

Abstract After a survey on some recent results of Riley and others on Ackermann functions and Hydra groups, we make an analogy between DNA sequences, whose growth is the same of that of Hydra groups, and a musical piece, written with the same algorithmic criterion. This is mainly an aesthetic observation, which emphasizes the importance of the combinatorics of words in two different contexts. A result of specific mathematical interest is placed at the end, where we sharpen some previous bounds on deterministic finite automata in which there are languages with hairpins.
