Case-based portraits of contrasting micro-interaction processes during online assessment of collaborative problem solving

This study recognizes the role and the quality of social aspects in collaborative problem solving (CPS) processes and outcomes. The aim of this study, relying on multiple data and phases of analysis, is to explore and visualise, through contrasting case-based portraits, how micro-interaction processes at pair level evolve during CPS assessments in an online environment. The assessment is designed for a student pair in the STEM domain. The results show that in despite students’ similar CPS performance scores, variations in micro-interactions occurred across pairs. Bakalaura darba tēma ir „Idiomu lietojums lietišķajās ziņās”. Diplomdarba mērķis ir apskatīt atšķirības idiomu lietojumā britu un amerikāņu lietišķajās ziņās, laikrakstos, kuri publicēti tiešsaistē. Autores pētijums tiek veikts no diahroniskās perspektīvas. Bakalaura darbā izmantotās izpētes metodes ir literatūras pārskats un diskursa analīze, kā arī idiomu kvalitatīvā un biežuma analīzes lietišķajās ziņās, kas publicētas britu un amerikāņu interneta avīzēs. Reklāmrakstu diskursa analīze

Šis darbs ir veltīts reklāmrakstu diskursa analīzei, kas tiek uzskatīti par reklāmas tipu, kas līdzinās redaktora slejai. Pētījuma mērķis bija identificēt līdzekļus, kas tiek izmantoti reklāmrakstu divkāršo funkciju sasniegšanai. Tika apgalvots, ka, lai gan reklāmas forma atgādina redaktora sleju, to raksturo dažādi lingvistiskie un paralingvistiskie līdzekļi, kas ir raksturīgi reklāmai. Paveiktā diskursa analīze atklāja, ka analizētajiem reklāmrakstiem bija jaukta žanra iezīmes, kas apvienoja reklāmas mērķus ar informatīviem, kuri faktiski papildināja viens otru. Bakalaura darba avottekstā izvirzīts Paula Bankovska romāns “Plāns ledus”. Pētījuma mērķis ir fiksēt un sistematizēt literārās distopijas iezīmes tajā. Darba teorētiskajā daļā sniegta distopijas jēdziena izskaidrojums. Veikta izpēte par distopijas žanra attīstību literatūrā un raksturotas galvenās žanra iezīmes. Darbā tiek izmantota salīdzinošā un aprakstošā jeb monogrāfiskā pētniecības metode, lai praktiskajā daļā identificētu kopīgās un atšķirīgās īpašības, pamatojoties uz daudzveidīgas teorētiskās literatūras apskatu darba pirmajā daļā. Bakalaura darba tēma ir aktuāla, jo Latvijas kontekstā literārais distopijas žanrs ir maz pētīts.
The “Architectures” of Successful Remote Collaborative Problem Solving : Exploring Commitment in Dyadic Interaction

During successful collaborative problem solving (CPS), participants are expected not only to share and process information to solve the task, but also to show responsiveness and commitment to their partners. Accordingly, this exploratory study aims, via two contrasting cases, to acquire a preliminary understanding of how commitments and successful CPS come together in remote, dyadic interaction. To do so, the study relies on objective and subjective measures and combines group with individual levels of analysis on log files and cued interviews. Students’ approaches to solving R-FCI tasks observed by eye-tracking method

This study sought to assess the representational format of task options in the representational variant of the force concept Inventory (R-FCI) test, namely its impact on students’ problem-solving approaches. This was done with the help of eye-tracking equipment. 35 high-school students solved four tasks, mainly from the R-FCI test, which sought to assess the student’s understanding of Newton’s 1st and 2nd Law of Motion. Eye-tracking the Effects of Representation on Students' Problem Solving Approaches

This study used an eye-tracking method to explore students’ approaches to solving the same task in different representations and the differences between students who answered correctly and those who answered incorrectly when solving the problems. Thirty-one upper secondary students took part in the study. According to the results of this study, the representation has a slight effect on students’ problem solving processes. Students with the incorrect answers paid more attention to the parts of the tasks with information irrelevant to determining the solution to the task. peerReviewed

Evaluating similarity measures for gaze patterns in the context of representational competence in physics education

The competent handling of representations is required for understanding physics' concepts, developing problem-solving skills, and achieving scientific expertise. Using eye-tracking methodology, we present the contributions of this paper as follows: We first investigated the preferences of students with the different levels of knowledge; experts, intermediates, and novices, in representational competence in the domain of physics problem-solving. It reveals that experts more likely prefer to use vector than other representations. Besides, a similar tendency of table representation usage was observed in all groups.
