Plant saponins are a group of naturally occuring triterpene or steroid glycosides which include a large number of biologically and pharmacologically active compounds. Abstract This study aimed to investigate natamycin's in vitro antifungal activity against Penicillium strains and determine its antifungal effect on Mozzarella cheese slices contaminated with P. commune. Besides, the residual content of natamycin in the samples was assessed during the storage. Natamycin was either sprayed on the cheese surface or incorporated into an edible hydroxyethylcellulose film at concentrations of 0, 0.25, 0.5, and 1 mg/dm2. Natamycin showed an antifungal effect against all Penicillium strains with MIC values ranging from 1.6 to 3.1 μg/mL and MFC values ranging from 12.5 to 200.0 μg/mL. Background: Active packaging represents a defining strategy to improve food quality and safety of the packaged foods. This study aimed to evaluate the in vitro ability of commercial biopolymeric foams, namely Mater-Bi (MB), activated with 20% of carvacrol, to develop a completely biodegradable and compostable packaging to inhibit the growth of spoilage and pathogenic yeasts.
 Methods: MB foams, with and without carvacrol, were produced by melt mixing and the foaming process was performed in a laboratory press. The increasing use of silver (Ag) nanoparticles (NPs) in daily-life applications, electronics, or catalysis calls for green and cost-efficient synthetic methods. Ag NPs are used especially in biomedicine because of their antibacterial, antifungal, or anticancer properties. Chemical synthesis allows tuning the particle morphology, size, and crystallinity, but requires toxic and hazardous chemicals. Nephrotoxicity in the setting of invasive fungal diseases

Amphotericin B, a broad spectrum antifungal agent, is widely used despite significant adverse events including nephrotoxicity. Nephrotoxicity occurs frequently in patients receiving amphotericin B. Different definitions for nephrotoxicity are reviewed in the context of outcome in patients with invasive fungal diseases. In most publications, mortality was higher in patients experiencing nephrotoxicity and mean hospital length of stay was prolonged. As a consequence, the use of less nephrotoxic antifungal agents could improve treatment outcomes.

Purpose of Review: The purpose of this study was to provide an overview and insights on important new concepts on untargeted antifungal treatment strategies, namely prophylaxis pre-emptive and empiric treatments for the management of invasive candidiasis (IC) in non-neutropenic critically ill patients.
