Environmental exposure to pesticides during the early stages of development represents an important risk factor for the onset of neurodegenerative diseases in adult age. Neonatal exposure to Permethrin (PERM), a member of the family of synthetic pyrethroids, can induce a Parkinson-like disease and cause some alterations in striatum of rats, involving both genetic and epigenetic pathways. Through gene expression analysis and global DNA methylation assessment in both PERM-treated parents and their untreated offspring, we investigated on the prospective intergenerational effect of this pesticide. Dobór technik bioremediacji jest bardzo ważny w oczyszczaniu gleby skażonej substancjami ropopochodnymi, która ma być wykorzystywanej rolniczo. Prezentowane wyniki wskazują, że na rozwój siewek owsa większy wpływ ma stosowana metoda bioremediacji niż poziom zanieczyszczenia węglowodorami. Z zastosowanych technik najbardziej przyjazne dla wegetacji owsa były te, w których wykorzystywano szczepionkę drożdżową.
Unraveling the nature of universal dynamics in O(N) theories

Many-body quantum systems far from equilibrium can exhibit universal scaling dynamics which defy standard classification schemes. Here, we disentangle the dominant excitations in the universal dynamics of highly occupied N-component scalar systems using unequal-time correlators. While previous equal-time studies have conjectured the infrared properties to be universal for all N, we clearly identify for the first time two fundamentally different phenomena relevant at different N. We find all N >= 3 to be indeed dominated by the same Lorentzian "large-N" peak, whereas N = 1 is characterized instead by a non-Lorentzian peak with different properties, and for N = 2, we see a mixture of two cont…

Aqueous extracts from Posidonia oceanica’s green and brown (beached) leaves and rhizomes were prepared, submitted to phenolic compound and proteomic analysis, and examined for their potential cytotoxic effect on HepG2 liver cancer cells in culture. The chosen endpoints related to survival and death were cell viability and locomotory behavior, cell-cycle analysis, apoptosis and autophagy, mitochondrial membrane polarization, and cell redox state. Abstract The photocatalytic oxidation of a common antibiotic, the lincomycin was carried out in aqueous suspensions of polycrystalline TiO 2 Degussa P25 irradiated by sunlight. In order to improve the performance of the lincomycin degradation a hybrid system consisting of a solar photoreactor with the photocatalyst in suspension coupled with a membrane module, used to confine both photocatalyst and pollutants in the reaction environment, was tested. The major thiol-containing molecules involved in controlling the level of intracellular ROS in eukaryotes, acting as a nonenzymatic detoxification system, are metallothioneins (MTs), glutathione (GSH) and phytochelatins (PCs). Both MTs and GSH are well-known in the animal kingdom. A strain of Neofusicoccum parvum isolated from declining vines was pathogenic to grapevine cultivar Inzolia in Sicily. This strain produced some metabolites in liquid medium. Crude extract, through a bio-guided purification process, yielded four naphthalenone polyketides.
