Alternating antiferromagnetic and ferromagnetic exchange interactions in the S = 1 Heisenberg chain. Theory and magnetic properties

Abstract We focus on the magnetic properties of the S = 1 Heisenberg chain with alternating antiferromagnetic and ferromagnetic exchange interactions J 1 and J 2 . The magnetic behavior of this system is calculated as a function of the alternation parameter α = J 2 /| J 1 |, from a general numerical procedure based on closed spin chains of increasing length. These theoretical results are fitted to rational unified expressions, which are subsequently used to describe the magnetic behavior of a nickel (II) complex, [Ni(bipy)(N 3 ) 2 ] n , exhibiting an alternating chain structure with a dominant ferromagnetic exchange.

'Oxford Dictionaries' chose “post-truth” as the “Word of the Year 2016”, while the association of German linguists (Gesellschaft für deutsche Sprache) did the same for '“postfaktische Politik'”. “Alternative facts”, launched by Kellyanne Conway concerning the attendance at Donald Trump’s inaugural, was a third variant in this cluster. Mate (Ilex paraguariensis) is a highly popular herbal beverage in South America due to its high content of caffeine. Its hypolipidemic and antioxidant properties are of increasing interest in the treatment of cardiovascular disorders and for weight control. A parallel splitting up method and its application to Navier-Stokes equations

A parallel splitting-up method (or the so called alternating-direction method) is proposed in this paper. The method not only reduces the original linear and nonlinear problems into a series of one dimensional linear problems, but also enables us to compute all these one dimensional linear problems by parallel processors. Tree nuts have become popular snacks due to their attributed benefits in the health state. Nevertheless, their susceptibility to fungal contamination lead to the occurrence of potentially dangerous mycotoxins. Hence, the aim of this work was to evaluate the presence of mycotoxins in ready-to-eat almonds, walnuts, and pistachios from Italian markets. The most relevant mycotoxin found in almonds was α-zearalanol in 18% of samples (n = 17) ranging from 3.70 to 4.54 µg/kg. Walnut samples showed frequent contamination with alternariol, present in 53% of samples (n = 22) at levels from 0.29 to 1.65 µg/kg.
