Differentiation of isomeric cyclic diamides by electron impact mass spectra

1976

The behaviour under electron impact of two series of isomeric cyclopentane- and cyclohexane-1, 2- and -1, 3-dicarboxylic acid dipiperidides was studied. Diagnostic fragmentation pathways were found to differentiate the isomeric diamides. Additional evidence was obtained from the metastable transitions.

Characterization of totally chlorine-free effluents from kraft pulp bleaching III

1999

Abstract Chemical changes in the dissolved high-molecular-mass material from silver birch (Betula pendula) kraft pulp during the oxygen–alkali delignification stage (O) and the subsequent totally chlorine-free (TCF) bleaching sequence (X–Z–EOP–AZ–EP–S) were investigated by analytical pyrolysis (pyrolysis–gas chromatography/mass-sensitive detector (Py–GC/MSD)). In addition, the pyrolysis data were subjected to chemometric analysis, resulting in a rapid method for determining with reasonable accuracy, for example, the mass proportion of carbohydrates and lignin in the effluents from each of the treatment stages. The method was calibrated by chemical analysis on the same effluents.

Monomeric vs. polymeric bonded iminodiacetate silica supports in high-performance ligand-exchange chromatography

1983

The synthesis of monomeric and polymeric bonded iminodiacetate-groups on silica supports is described. The polymeric support offers advantages over the monomeric, such as (i) preparation is much simpler, (ii) higher surface concentration of functional groups can be achieved without loss of efficiency and (iii) hydrolytic stability. Cu2+ loaded supports were examined for their kinetic performance, in particular for the C-parameter of the Knox equation, and for their hydrolytic stability. Calculation of the surface coverage shows that only a rather thin polymeric layer is formed; this is in agreement with the results of the kinetic performance. The retention of α-amino acids on the Cu2+ loade…

Identification of drying oils used in pictorial works of art by liquid chromatography of the 2-nitrophenylhydrazides derivatives of fatty acids.

2004

A new HPLC-UV-Vis method for identification of drying oils from binding media or protective film used in pictorial works of art prior to conservation or restoration is proposed. Chromophore derivatization of fatty acids released by hydrolysis of structural drying oils is studied. The derivatization reagent selected was 2-nitrophenylhydrazine with 1-ethyl-3-(3-dimethyl animopropyl)carbodiimide hydrochloride/pyridine as catalyst. This reaction was carried out using microwave heating. Mobile phase was methanol/water/n-propanol/acetic acid (80:14:5:1) running in isocratic mode. Absorbance was measured at 400nm. In these conditions, hydrazides of myristic, palmitic, oleic, and stearic acids were…

Ionic Liquids on Demand in Continuous Flow

2009

We report on the development of an alternative protocol for the facile, solvent-free synthesis of various novel imidazolium-based ionic liquids (ILs) that affords highly pure products without the necessity of subsequent purification steps. The continuous approach is based on the combination of HPLC pumps with a micromixer and a capillary residence tube. Our system provides a high degree of control over the alkylation reactions due to a high surface-to-volume ratio and superior heat and mass transport. Within the scope of our studies, we focused on ionic liquids containing differently substituted phenyl rings and characterized these compounds with respect to further use for direct applicatio…

Effects of VTE Treatment on Composition of Lithium Tantalate Single Crystals

2011

The vapour transport equilibration (VTE) is used to change the Li/Ta ratio in lithium tantalate single crystals of different crystallographic orientations (Z-cut and Y/128°-cut). Treatment by VTE is shown to provide thin layers in lithium tantalate plates composition of which is close to stoichiometric while the values of the coercive field are different, much smaller compared with congruent single crystals. There are several mechanisms of diffusion of the Li+ ions in LiTaO3 under conditions of VTE the contribution of each being dependent on the crystallographic orientation of the sample.

Effect of Mn Doping on the Optical Properties of Chalcogenide Compounds ZnS and ZnTe

2020

In this paper, the influence of the addition of Mn on the optical properties of the binary compounds ZnS and ZnTe deposited by a close-spaced vacuum sublimation method onto nonoriented glass at different substrate temperatures was considered. The spectral dependences of the transmittance T (λ), reflectance R (λ) and the absorption α (λ), as well as the bandgap for each material (Eg) were measured and calculated.

Optical properties of lithium niobate single crystals

2005

Studies of thermal and γ-irradiation effects on the optical properties in congruous lithium niobate single crystals containing Y, Mg, Gd, B, and Zn dopants including samples with double dopants Y, Mg and Gd, Mg are reported. Formation of defects at irradiation and thermal treatment of the samples is explored by electron absorption spectra. Considerable increase of absorption with the dose of γ-radiation is observed at 500 nm. The changes of absorption examined under different conditions are explained by creation and destruction of Nb 4 + defects.

The Effects of Admixtures on Resistance to Radiation of Lithium Niobate Crystals

2015

The studies of optical absorption and transmission of crystalline lithium niobate compounds modified by rare-earth and alkali-earth elements: LiNbO3: Y (0.46 wt %), LiNbO3: Y (0.32 wt %), Mg (0.24 wt %), LiNbO3: Mg (0.27 wt %), LiNbO3: Gd (0.004, 0.04, 0.26, and 0.43 wt %), and ostensibly pure LiNbO3 is reported. The features of absorption and transmission are examined with respect to the dosage of γ-irradiation, the annealing temperature, and the type and concentration of modifying admixtures. The features revealed in different ways of bleaching γ-irradiated and annealed in vacuum ostensibly pure lithium niobate crystals are used to refine the mechanisms of developing electron and point de…

Room-temperature ionic liquid-based electrochemical nanobiosensors

2012

Abstract Room-temperature ionic liquids (RTILs) have proved to be excellent materials for applications in electrochemistry. We review progress in constructing high-performance electrochemical biosensors. We also discuss: • different modified electrodes based on RTILs for biosensing applications; • different routes for enzyme biosensing based on RTIL-modified electrodes; • incorporation of biorecognition elements into RTIL-based electrodes; • electroanalytical applications of RTIL-based modified electrodes; and, • recent developments in which the advantages of ILs as a medium for biosensing were realized. We also summarize the latest developments in the applications of RTIL-based electrochem…
