ZnO nanostructures: synthesis by anodization and applications in photoelectrocatalysis
2021
Abstract Solar energy is a clean and abundant energy source. In a photoelectrochemical cell, energy from sunlight is captured and converted into electric power, chemical fuels such as hydrogen is employed to degrade organic pollutants. ZnO is a promising material for photoelectrocatalysis due to its remarkable properties. The aim of this review is to perform an exhaustive revision of nanostructured ZnO synthesis by electrochemical anodization in order to control surface characteristics of this material through anodization parameters such as electrolyte type and concentration, potential, time, temperature, stirring, and post treatment. Finally, application of ZnO nanostructures is overviewed…
How does anodization time affect morphological and photocatalytic properties of iron oxide nanostructures?
2020
Abstract Iron oxide nanostructures are promising materials to be used as photocatalysts in different photoelectrochemical applications. There are different techniques in order to synthesize these nanostructures, but one of the most inexpensive and simple method is electrochemical anodization. This method can lead to different nanostructures by controlling its parameters. Anodization time is one of the most critical parameters since it considerably affects the properties of the obtained nanostructures. In this work, different anodization times (5, 10, 15, 30 and 60 min) were studied. The resulting nanotubes were characterized by field emission scanning electron microscopy, Raman laser confoc…
Anodization and anodic oxides
2018
Anodizing is a low-temperature, low-cost electrochemical process allowing for the growth, on the surface of valve metals and valve metal alloys, of anodic oxides of tunable composition and properties. This article is an overview on theoretical aspects concerning the general aspects of the kinetics of growth of barrier and porous anodic oxides and some of their present and possibly future technological applications of anodic oxides. The first part of the article is devoted to anodic oxide growth models, from Guntherschulze and Betz work (in 1934) to the more recent results on barrier and porous oxide films. The second part is focused on industrial processes to fabricate anodic oxides and the…
Resistive switching in microscale anodic titanium dioxide-based memristors
2018
Licence CC BY-NC-ND The potentiality of anodic TiO2 as an oxide material for the realization of resistive switching memory cells has been explored in this paper. Cu/anodic-TiO2/Ti memristors of different sizes, ranging from 1 × 1 μm2 to 10 × 10 μm2 have been fabricated and characterized. The oxide films were grown by anodizing Ti films, using three different process conditions. Measured IV curves have shown similar asymmetric bipolar hysteresis behaviors in all the tested devices, with a gradual switching from the high resistance state to the low resistance state and vice versa, and a R_OFF/R_ON ratio of 80 for the thickest oxide film devices.
Space charge limited current mechanism in Bi2S3 nanowires
2016
We report on the charge transport properties of individual Bi2S3 nanowires grown within the pores of anodized aluminum oxide templates. The mean pore diameter was 80 nm. Space charge limited current is the dominating conduction mechanism at temperatures below 160 K. Characteristic parameters of nanowires, such as trap concentration and trap characteristic energy, were estimated from current-voltage characteristics at several temperatures.
Mesoporous SiC with Potential Catalytic Application by Electrochemical Dissolution of Polycrystalline 3C-SiC
2018
Electrochemical dissolution of highly doped (ρ ∼ 1 mΩ·cm, n-type) polycrystalline 3C-SiC in HF/H2O and HF/H2O/ethanol solutions allowed production of porous silicon carbide (por-SiC) and soluble carbon fluorooxide nanoparticles as a byproduct. The por-SiC is a crystalline material with large pore volume, surface area close to 100 m2 g–1, and open mesoporous structure. The surface of por-SiC is covered with a thin carbon-enriched layer, bearing carboxylic acid groups. Depending on the SiC resistivity, etchant composition, and current density, three different types of por-SiC morphology, namely, a macroporous tubular, mesoporous hierarchical, and mesoporous filamentary were revealed. A qualit…
Investigation of the kinetics of growth of anodic oxide films on niobium by galvanostatic and tensiodynamic experiments
1990
Abstract The kinetics of growth of anodic oxide films on niobium has been investigated by interferometric methods. Tensiodynamic experiments allow the growth of the films at constant rate. Photoeffects during the growth of the films under absorbed light give additional information on the growth process.
Photoconductive properties of Bi2S3nanowires
2015
The photoconductive properties of Bi2S3 nanowires synthesized inside anodized alumina (AAO) membrane have been characterized as a function of illuminating photon energy between the wavelengths of 500 to 900 nm and at constant illumination intensity of 1–4 μW·cm−2. Photoconductivity spectra, photocurrent values, photocurrent onset/decay times of individual Bi2S3 nanowires liberated from the AAO membrane were determined and compared with those of arrays of as-produced Bi2S3 nanowires templated inside pores of AAO membrane. The alumina membrane was found to significantly influence the photoconductive properties of the AAO-hosted Bi2S3 nanowires, when compared to liberated from the AAO membrane…
Colloidal nanoparticle sorting and ordering on anodic alumina patterned surfaces using templated capillary force assembly
2017
Abstract A new, robust technique of size-selective nanoparticle ordering on porous anodized aluminum oxide (PAAO) templates is presented. Simultaneous particle sorting and array formation is achieved for the first time using a polydisperse suspension of irregularly shaped diamond nanocrystals. The array parameters can be tuned through a balance of evaporation driven particle flux, capillary, electrostatic, and adhesion forces, which are influenced by the asperities of the surface during the capillary and convective assembly dip-coating process. The resulting structures are dense (lower limit approximately 50 nm center separation), isolated (non-touching) nanoparticle arrays with a size dist…
Effects of anodizing surface treatment on the mechanical strength of aluminum alloy 5083 to fibre reinforced composites adhesive joints
2021
Abstract In this study, the anodizing process based on the use of tartaric sulfuric acid solution (TSA) was carried out on metal substrate to evaluate for the first time its effect on the adhesion strength and corrosion resistance of aluminium alloy (i.e., AA5083) to fibre (i.e., basalt or glass) reinforced composite adhesive joints for nautical applications. Furthermore, some TSA anodized samples were soaked in a NaOH solution to investigate the influence of this post-immersion step on the joint performances. With the aim to improve the fibre-matrix adhesion in the composite substrate thus further increasing the overall mechanical response of the joint, glass and basalt fibres were treated…
