Influence of Cation Size on the Fluorescent Properties of Bis-coronand Biphenyl-derived Complexes
2007
A new bis-coronand derived from biphenyl has been prepared and its complexing and sensing properties for alkaline, alkaline-earth and transition cations have been studied. Open and clamp complexes are formed depending on the cation size and complex stoichiometry. Both types of geometries can be distinguished due to their different fluorescent behaviour. Zn2+ gives rise to 1:1 and 1:2 complexes with a similar geometry.
SUBSTRATE-ELICITED DISSOCIATION OF THE ISOSAFROLE METABOLITE-CYTOCHROME P-450 COMPLEX AND THE CONSEQUENTIAL REACTIVATION OF MONOOXYGENATION
1977
ABSTRACT The present study was initiated to determine whether the substrate-elicited dissociation of the isosafrole metabolite-cytochrome P-450 complex resulted in increased monooxygenase activity. It was found that the substrates p -nitroanisole and ethoxycoumarin would elicit dissociation, furthermore this dissociation was accompanied by increased dealkylation of the substrates. Benzo(a)pyrene was found not to effect the dissociation of the complex, while biphenyl, which undergoes a similar hydroxylation, was effective.
Organic residues in lake and drinking water from the lagoa de Juturnaíba (região dos lagos - RJ, Brazil)
1997
Various analytical methods for the determination of organic residues in water were applied to samples from the Lagoa de Juturnaíba in the Região dos Lagos, east of Rio de Janeiro. The concentrations of more than 60 pesticides and of different aminopolycarboxylic acids were determined using GC/MS detection, and a GC/MS screening procedure was applied to detect additional compounds. None of the investigated pesticide residues could be detected in the lake water at detection limits of less than 100 ng/L. EDTA was detected at a concentration level of 2 mg/L in the lake and in drinking water prepared from this lake. Traces of biphenyl were identified by GC/MS in the lake water, the source of whi…
Isostructural potassium and thallium salts of sterically crowded triazenes: a structural and computational study.
2008
Because of their similar cationic radii, potassium and thallium(I) compounds are usually regarded as closely related. Homologous molecular species containing either K(+) or Tl(+) are very rare, however. We have synthesized potassium and thallium salts MN3RR' derived from the biphenyl- or terphenyl-substituted triazenes Tph2N3H (1a), Dmp(Mph)N3H (1b), Dmp(Tph)N3H (1c), and (Me4Ter)2N3H (1d) (Dmp=2,6-Mes 2C6H3 with Mes=2,4,6-Me3C6H2; Me4Ter=2,6-(3,5-Me2C6H3)2C6H3; Mph=2-MesC6H4; Tph=2-TripC6H4 with Trip=2,4,6-(i)Pr3C6H2). The potassium complexes 2a- d were obtained in almost quantitative yield from the reaction of 1a- d with potassium metal in n-heptane. Metalation of 1a- d with TlOEt afforde…
4,4′-Substituted biphenyl coronands. Preparation of a new selective fluorescent sensor for mercury salts
2006
Six new 4,4′-substituted biphenyl coronands have been prepared. The ligands containing dimethylamino groups in the biphenyl moiety have been used in transition metal cations’ complexation and one of them (3) has demonstrated to be a selective fluorescent sensor for mercury. Stoichiometries of the formed complexes and complexation constants have been determined by titration experiments. In addition, the extractant ability of some ligands has also been studied. Finally, the electrochemical properties of some of these ligands are also described.
Isolation and identification of intermediates from biodegradation of low chlorinated biphenyls (Delor-103).
2004
Abstract Microorganism Pseudomonas species P2 metabolizes polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and biphenyl, producing the whole spectrum of intermediates, among them coloured intermediates, which are suitable for the monitoring of PCBs degradation by optical sensors. Knowledge of chemical structures and conditions of development of colour metabolites is necessary for application of optical analytical methods. The main goal of this work was the isolation and identification of intermediates from the biodegradation of the mixture of low chlorinated biphenyls (Delor-103), which is based on the solid phase extraction (SPE) of the whole mixture using LiChrolut EN cartridges, then silylation of the e…
Biphenyls and xanthones from the podostemaceae
1992
Abstract Investigation of the fruiting parts of Mourera fluviatilis afforded 6-desoxyjacareubin, trapezifoliaxanthone and a series of eight new biphenyl derivatives; 3,5-dimethoxybiphenyl; 2,2-dimethyl-5-methoxy-7-phenylchromene; 2,2-dimethyl-7-methoxy-5-phenylchromene; 2-(3,3-dimethylallyl)-3-hydroxy-5-methoxybiphenyl; 2,3-dihydro-6-methoxy-4-phenyl-2,3,3-trimethylcoumarone; [(2,3-dihydro-3,3-dimethyl-6-methoxy-4-phenyl)-2-coumaronyl]methanol; 2,3-dihydro-3,3-dimethyl-6-methoxy-2-oxo-4-phenylcoumarone; and a dimeric biphenyl.
Magnetoelectrochemistry of 4,4′-bis(dimethylamino)biphenyl and 4,4′-dinitrobiphenyl azacrown macrocyclic lactams
2005
Abstract The voltammetric behaviour at carbon fibre microelectrodes under the application of static magnetic fields of two series of macrolactams containing in their structure 4,4′-bis(dimethylamino)biphenyl or 4,4′-dinitrobiphenyl groups in MeCN solution is described. The response of 4,4′-dinitrobiphenyl receptors is dominated by two successive one-electron reduction processes at −0.9 and −1.6 V versus AgCl/Ag. 4,4′-bis(dimethylamino)biphenyl-containing receptors display two one-electron oxidations above +0.8 and +1.0 V. In both cases, a dihedral/planar interconversion precedes the second electron transfer step. Upon application of moderate (0.05–0.2 T) static magnetic fields to the electr…
Sterically crowded triazenides as novel ancillary ligands in copper chemistry
2011
Abstract We have synthesized copper salts MN3RR′ derived from the biphenyl- or m-terphenyl-substituted triazenes Tph2N3H (1a) and Dmp(Tph)N3H (1b) (Dmp = 2,6-Mes2C6H3 with Mes = 2,4,6-Me3C6H2; Tph = 2-TripC6H4 with Trip = 2,4,6-i-Pr3C6H2). The homoleptic copper triazenide [CuN3Tph2] (2a) was obtained in high yield from the metallation of 1a with mesityl copper in n-heptane, while the complex [CuN3(Dmp)Tph] (2b) was generated by the same method in situ only. Reaction of 2a with triphenylphosphane gave the 2:1 adduct [CuN3Tph2(PPh3)2] (3a), regardless of the used complex/donor ratio, while reaction of 2a or 2b with a stochiometric amount of t-butylisonitrile afforded the 1:1 adducts [Tph2N3Cu…
A theoretical study of the electronic spectrum of biphenyl
1995
Abstract The electronic spectrum of biphenyl in the energy range up to 6.0 eV has been studied using multiconfigurational second-order perturbation theory (CASPT2) and a basis set of ANO type, including polarization functions on all carbon atoms. The calculated spectrum gives conclusive assignments to all valence excited singlet states and the low-lying triplet states. The change of the torsional angle between the two benzene rings in the different excited states is shown to be of considerable importance and explains the different excitation energies observed in the gas phase as compared to solution or crystalline biphenyl at low temperatures. The intense transition to the 1 1B1u state is m…
