Hepatitis B virus in diabetic patients

1980

The presence of HBV markers was determined in 149 serum samples obtained from diabetic patients and was compared with a normal population. Diabetics have the same incidence of HBsAg but significantly higher anti-HBc antibodies. These differences were seen in the group of diabetics on oral hypoglycemic therapy. These results cannot yet be explained.

Antibody Pattern of HCV Infection and Hepatocellular Carcinoma in Italy: A Case Control Study

1994

The association of hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and the presence of a specific antibody pattern was assessed by means of a case-control study conducted in Italy on 65 consecutive newly diagnosed HCC cases and 99 sex- and age-matched control patients with chronic nonhepatic disease. The prevalences of antibody to HCV (anti-HCV) and hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) observed were 66.2% and 24.6%, respectively. The relative risk for the association of each of the two markers with HCC, as calculated by multiple logistic analysis, was 26.9 (95% confidence intervals (CI): 9.9–72.5) for anti-HCV and 11.4 (95% CI: 3.1–41.1) for HBsAg. Thus, they constitute…

Fiziskā un emocionālā labsajūta sievietēm menopauzes periodā

2022

2022

Darba ietvaros pētīta purīnu biosintēzes ceļa saistība ar mitohondrionālo metabolismu. Veikta purīnu biosintēzes mutantu kultivēšana dažādu oglekļa avotu, kā arī mitohondrionālo procesu inhibitoru klātbūtnē gan šķidrajā barotnē, gan uz agara platēm. Tāpat šajā darbā mērīta trīs Krebsa cikla enzīmu aktivitāte. Novērots, ka pielāgošanās ātrums fermentatīvo substrātu maiņas gadījumā ir atkarīgs no iepriekšējiem augšanas apstākļiem - badinātām purīnu auksotrofu šūnu kultūrām novērota augstāka pielāgotība nekā pilnajā barotnē augušajām. Iegūtie rezultāti norāda, ka purīnu de novo sintēzes ceļa mutācijas ietekmē mitohondriju metabolismu. ade2 un ade6 mutantiem novērotas izmaiņas oglekļa metabolis…

Case-specific performance of MM-PBSA, MM-GBSA, and SIE in virtual screening.

2015

In drug discovery the reliable prediction of binding free energies is of crucial importance. Methods that combine molecular mechanics force fields with continuum solvent models have become popular because of their high accuracy and relatively good computational efficiency. In this research we studied the performance of molecular mechanics generalized Born surface area (MM-GBSA), molecular mechanics Poisson-Boltzmann surface area (MM-PBSA), and solvated interaction energy (SIE) both in their virtual screening efficiency and their ability to predict experimentally determined binding affinities for five different protein targets. The protein-ligand complexes were derived with two different app…

The impact of Covid-19 on economic poverty in Subsaharas Africa

2022

EVALUATING THE RISK OF HEPATITIS B REACTIVATION IN PATIENTS WITH HAEMATOLOGICAL MALIGNANCIES: IS THE SERUM HEPATITIS B PROFILE RELIABLE?

2009

Background/Aim: Patients with an occult hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection undergoing deep immunosuppression are potentially at risk of HBV reactivation. In order to assess whether a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay for HBV DNA in serum could be used to predict the reactivation of an occult HBV infection, we performed a retrospective study in a cohort of Sicilian patients with oncohaematological diseases. Methods: We studied by a highly sensitive ad hoc nested PCR for serum HBV DNA 75 HBsAg-negative oncohaematological patients requiring chemotherapy. Results: Thirty-three patients (44%) were HBV seronegative (anti-HBc and anti-HBs negative) and 42 patients (56%) were HBV seropositive (a…

Antineoplastic dosing in overweight and obese cancer patients: an Associazione Italiana Oncologia Medica (AIOM)/Associazione Medici Diabetologi (AMD)…

2021

Most anticancer molecules are administered in body-size-based dosing schedules, bringing up unsolved issues regarding pharmacokinetic data in heavy patients. The worldwide spread of obesity has not been matched by improved methods and strategies for tailored drug dosage in this population. The weight or body surface area (BSA)-based approaches may fail to fully reflect the complexity of the anthropometric features besides obesity in cancer patients suffering from sarcopenia. Likewise, there is a lack of pharmacokinetic data on obese patients for the majority of chemotherapeutic agents as well as for new target drugs and immunotherapy. Therefore, although the available findings point to the …
