Modulation of the ordering temperature in anilato-based magnets

2019

Abstract Four new 2D honeycomb anilato-based ferrimagnets with Mn(II) and Cr(III) have been prepared and characterized. These compounds, formulated as (NBu4)[MnCr(C6O4X2)3(PhCHO)]·PhY (X/Y = Cl/H (1), Br/H (2), Cl/CHO (3) and Br/CHO (4) show that it is possible to include benzaldehyde as a co-ligand coordinated to the Mn(II) metal atom in these 2D ferrimagnets. This inclusion increases the coordination number of Mn(II) to seven resulting in a change in the ordering temperatures of these 2D ferrimagnets (from ca. 10–11 K to ca. 7 K). Here we show the role played by the additional benzaldehyde ligand and by the crystallization solvent molecules (benzene in 1 and 2 and benzaldehyde in 3 and 4)…

Unravelling the biosynthesis of pyriculol in the rice blast fungus Magnaporthe oryzae

2017

Pyriculol was isolated from the rice blast fungus Magnaporthe oryzae and found to induce lesion formation on rice leaves. These findings suggest that it could be involved in virulence. The gene MoPKS19 was identified to encode a polyketide synthase essential for the production of the polyketide pyriculol in the rice blast fungus M. oryzae. The transcript abundance of MoPKS19 correlates with the biosynthesis rate of pyriculol in a time-dependent manner. Furthermore, gene inactivation of MoPKS19 resulted in a mutant unable to produce pyriculol, pyriculariol and their dihydro derivatives. Inactivation of a putative oxidase-encoding gene MoC19OXR1, which was found to be located in the genome cl…

Extraction of benzaldehyde from fermentation broth by pervaporation

1996

Abstract The application of pervaporation to extract benzaldehyde produced by microorganisms is considered. A model system was used to study the influence of different parameters and attempts to understand better the mass transfer of this flavour compound. Benzaldehyde was removed from a culture medium from which it was produced by Bjerkandera adusta . The performance of these processes is compared.

Mechanistic study of the biosynthesis of R-phenylcarbinol by acetohydroxyacid synthase enzyme using hybrid quantum mechanics/molecular mechanics simu…

2021

Abstract The biosynthesis of R-phenylacetylcarbinol (R-PAC) by the acetohydroxy acid synthase, (AHAS) is addressed by molecular dynamics simulations (MD), hybrid quantum mechanics/molecular mechanics (QM/MM), and QM/MM free energy calculations. The results show the reaction starts with the nucleophilic attack of the C2α atom of the HEThDP intermediate on the Cβ atom of the carbonyl group of benzaldehyde substrate via the formation of a transition state (TS1) with the HEThDP intermediate under 4′-aminopyrimidium (APH+) form. The calculated activation free energy for this step is 17.4 kcal mol−1 at 27 °C. From this point, the reaction continues with the abstraction of Hβ atom of the HEThDP in…

Pot-Economy Autooxidative Condensation of 2-Aryl-2-lithio-1,3-dithianes

2018

The autoxidative condensation of 2-aryl-2-lithio-1,3-dithianes is here reported. Treatment of 2-aryl-1,3-dithianes with n-BuLi in the absence of any electrophile leads to condensation of three molecules of 1,3-dithianes and formation of highly functionalized α-thioether ketones orthothioesters in 51-89% yields upon air exposure. The method was further expanded to benzaldehyde dithioacetals, affording corresponding orthothioesters and α-thioether ketones in 48-97% yields. The experimental results combined with density functional theory studies support a mechanism triggered by the autoxidation of 2-aryl-2-lithio-1,3-dithianes to yield a highly reactive thioester that undergoes condensation wi…

Influence of cell immobilization on the production of benzaldehyde and benzyl alcohol by the white-rot fungi Bjerkandera adusta, Ischnoderma benzoinu…

1997

International audience; Three white-rot basidiomycetes, Bjerkandera adusta, Ischnoderma benzoinum and Dichomitus squalens, were cultivated on a liquid medium supplemented with l-phenylalanine, a precursor for benzaldehyde (bitter almond aroma) and benzyl alcohol. Remarkable amounts of benzaldehyde (587 mg l−1) were found in cultures of B. adusta. Immobilization of this fungus on polyurethane foam cubes allowed an 8.3-fold increase of the production of benzaldehyde and a 15-fold increase of the productivity as compared with non-immobilized cells. Aryl-alcohol oxidase activity was only detected in B. adusta. This activity was also significantly enhanced in immobilized cells, suggesting that i…

Characterization of triphenylamino-based polymethine dyes

2013

In this high-technology application, age functional dyes especially polymethine dyes have captured much attention of the researchers due to their immense potential for high-tech uses. Polymethine dyes show promising absorption spectra in the visible range, which can be easily exploited for the use of written text copying, photographic imaging, or photothermographic recording materials. Keeping this in mind, our research is composed of an investigation of two triphenylamino-based polymethine dyes, a known polymethine dye 3 and a new one polymethine dye 5, which have been synthesized by the reaction of 4-(diphenylamino) benzaldehyde 2 and 4,4′-(phenylazanediyl) dibenzaldehyde 4 with 4,4′-viny…

Investigation of the aqueous transmetalation of π-allylpalladium with indium salt: the use of the Pd(OAc)2–TPPTS catalyst

2005

pi-Allylpalladium complexes could be generated in water by the palladium(0) water soluble catalyst prepared in situ from palladium acetate and TPPTS. These complexes were transmetalated with indium to react with benzaldehyde. The aqueous solution of Pd(0)(TPPTS)(n) could be reused without deterioration of the catalyst in the first and second recycling. The system proved to be efficient with primary and secondary allylic substrates. The stereochemical outcome of the allylation through umpolung of allylpalladium, was also studied using models with a restraint conformation.

Fourier Transform Infrared Study of the Performance of Nanostructured TiO2 Particles for the Photocatalytic Oxidation of Gaseous Toluene

2001

Thermal and hydrothermal treatments have been applied to an amorphous TiO2 precursor for obtaining nanosized TiO2 particles (P11t and P11h, respectively) of different photocatalytic properties. The activity of these catalysts has been tested by performing the toluene oxidation in gas phase in a continuous photoreactor. A Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) investigation of the catalysts under conditions prevailing during the test photoreaction has also been carried out. The photoreactivity results showed that CO2 was the main oxidation product and benzaldehyde a stable intermediate. Anatase P11t photoactivity was similar to that observed for commercial photocatalysts, while anatase P11h prese…
