The iodocyclization of o-alkynylbenzamides with various electrophiles has been reported to yield five- or six-membered lactams by nucleophilic attack of the amide nitrogen onto the triple bond. While the formation of an isobenzofuran-1(3H)-imine with two bulky substituents under Larock conditions was initially attributed to steric hindrance, we found out that cyclization via the amide oxygen is the rule rather than the exception. Thus, the structures of the products reported in the literature need to be revised.
The Structural Diversity of Benzofuran Resorcinarene Leads to Enhanced Fluorescence

An unexpected and previously unknown resorcinarene mono-crown with a fused benzofuran moiety in its macrocyclic core was obtained as a byproduct from a bridging reaction of tetramethoxy resorcinarene with tetraethylene glycol ditosylate. The formation of the fused benzofuran moiety in the resorcinarene macrocycle resulted in a unique rigid and puckered boat conformation, as shown by XRD studies in the solid state. Modification of the macrocycle was also observed to affect the photophysical properties in solution by enhancing the fluorescence brightness compared with a conventional resorcinarene macrocycle. Abstract Several light-induced reactions of polymers are described. The light-sensitive groups are part of the macromolecules. Photoisomerization of polyvinylbutyral produces a polymer with vinylbutyrate-groups. At exposure to light, furan and benzofuran are added to the carbonyl-groups of polyvinylbenzophenone. Polymers with azido-groups are prepared, which eliminate nitrogen at irradiation. Light-sensitive films can be cast from polymers with o-quinonediazide-groups.

A new dibenzofuran named 1,2,4-trimethyl-7,8-dimethoxy-dibenzofuran (1), together with seven known compounds, euparin (2), 2,5-diacetyl-6-hydroxy-benzofuran (3), 2-acetyl-5,6-dimethoxy-benzofuran (4), gummosogenin (5), lupeol (6), stigmasterol (7) and (E)-2,5-dihydroxy-cinnamic acid (8), were isolated from the roots of Ligularia caloxantha, a Chinese medicinal plant. The structures of the compounds were elucidated by spectroscopic methods.

The title compound, C17H18O5, was synthesized by a base-free catalytic Wittig reaction. The molecule consists of a diethyl itaconate unit, which is connectedviathe C=C double bond to a benzofuran moiety. The benzofuran ring system (r.m.s. deviation = 0.007 Å) forms dihedral angles of 79.58 (4) and 12.12 (10)° with the mean planes through thecisandtransethoxycarbonyl groups, respectively. An intramolecular C—H...O hydrogen bond involving the O atom of the benzofuran moiety is observed. In the crystal, molecules are linked into ribbons running parallel to thebaxis by C—H...O hydrogen bonds.

Abstract Background In Europe, increases in HCV infection have been observed over the last two decades in MSM, making them a key population for recently acquired HCV. Alternative combinations of direct-acting antiviral agents against early HCV infection need to be assessed. Patients and methods In this pilot trial, MSM with recently acquired genotype 1 or 4 HCV infection were prospectively included and received 8 weeks of oral grazoprevir 100 mg and elbasvir 50 mg in a fixed-dose combination administered once daily.
