Despite the promulgated laws, this type of violence has increased among adolescents. Although several theories have been put forward to explain the causes of domestic violence, a psychobiological or social-educative explanation that proposes an agreed starting point for understanding and preventing this phenomenon is lacking. The last decade has seen a marked shift in how the internal structure of hadrons is understood. Modern experimental facilities, new theoretical techniques for the continuum bound-state problem and progress with lattice-regularised QCD have provided strong indications that soft quark+quark (diquark) correlations play a crucial role in hadron physics. Antioxidants and carcinogen metabolism

Abstract Supplementation of diet with synthetic antioxidants has been shown to protect animals against a broad spectrum of chemical carcinogens. Some interest has been expressed in the use of these food additives as possible prophylactic agents. However, such considerations appear premature in view of the fact that the protective mechanism has not yet been elucidated. The present communication reviews the effect of antioxidants on carcinogen-metabolizing enzymes, one of the major candidates in the interpretation of the protective antioxidant action.

The workshop was a satellite meeting of the 9th International Symposium on High Energy Spin Physics, Bonn 1990. It was the third in a row of similar workshops organised by Ch.K. Sinclair in Stanford 1983 [1] and in Minneapolis 1988 [2]. About fourty scientists from atomic, solid state, as well as high energy particle physics participated in the meeting. The broad spectrum of different fields of physics represented resulted in lively discussions throughout the workshop. First reported in the late 1930s and first partly explained in 1970, the antibacterial activity of pectin remained almost ignored until the late 1990s. The concomitant emergence of research on natural antibacterials and on new usages of pectin polysaccharides, including those in medicine widely researched in Russia, has led to a renaissance of research in the physiological properties of this uniquely versatile polysaccharide ubiquitous in plants and fruits. Azo-Sulforhodamine Dyes: A Novel Class of Broad Spectrum Dark Quenchers

A rapid access to a novel class of water-soluble dark quencher dyes was achieved using an azo-coupling reaction between a fluorescent primary arylamine derived from a sulforhodamine 101 scaffold and a tertiary aniline equipped with different bioconjugatable groups. The thus obtained nonfluorescent azo-sulforhodamine hybrids display a broad quenching range spanning the visible to NIR regions. This was demonstrated through the preparation and enzymatic activation of FRET-based fluorogenic substrates of urokinase.
