Micellar enhanced fluorimetric determination of carbendazim in natural waters

1994

Abstract A micellar enhanced flow-injection fluorimetric method was developed for the determination of carbendazim in natural water samples. The method is based on the direct injection of 500 μ1 of water into a three-channel flow manifold in which the samples are merged with a buffer solution and subsequently with a surfactant solution. Two alternative procedures were used: one based on the use of sodium dodecyl sulphate micelles in 0.1 M HCl, which permits a 2.6-fold enhancement of the sensitivity found in the absence of micelles to be obtained, and the other based on the use of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide in 0.1 M NaOH, which provides a 11.6-fold enhancement of sensitivity and a limit …

In VitroRelease of Local Anaesthetic and Anti-Inflammatory Drugs from Crosslinked Collagen Based Device

2012

The drug delivery systems that are the object of this article take the form of a hydrophilic matrix (collagen or crosslinked collagen) containing a drug. These devices can be used as The model active agents, were chosen from the range of local anaesthetics (lidocaine hydrochloride), anti-inflammatory (diclofenac sodium salt) and antioxydant (caffeic acid). Whatever the drug affinity for water, in the first time of the experiments, the release appears to be systematically delayed when the matrix is crosslinked. For lidocaine hydrochloride based systems, as the amount of drug increases in the matrix, the high gap concentration between the matrix and the buffer solution promote the diffusion a…

Development of injectable and durable kefiran hydro-alcoholic gels.

2020

Injectable, in-situ forming kefiran gels have been developed for potential applications as implantable drug delivery devices or scaffolds for tissue regeneration. Concentrated solutions (4, 5 and 6%w) of kefiran, extracted from kefir grains, have been assessed in term of viscosity and injectability through G26 syringe needles, and for their ability to undergo gelation upon mixing with different alcohols. Propylene glycol (PG) has been selected as gelling agent because it ensures homogenous gelation in relatively short times (from few minutes up to 6 h). The investigation of the rheological behavior of kefiran/PG gels varying polymer concentration and temperature (25 degrees C and 37 degrees…

Electrochemistry of hydrotalcite-supported bis(2-mercapto-2,2-diphenyl-ethanoate) dioxomolybdate complexes.

1998

The redox properties of the hydrotalcite-intercalated bis(2-mercapto-2,2-diphenyl-ethanoate) dioxomolybdate(VI) complex are investigated by cyclic voltammetry by using modified carbon paste electrodes and clay-modified electrodes. The electrochemical data provide evidence that boundary-associated species involving the VI, V and IV oxidation states of molybdenum are responsible for the electroactivity.

Bioanalytical system for detection of cancer cells with photoluminescent ZnO nanorods

2016

Using photoluminescent ZnO nanorods and carbohydrate marker SSEA-4, a novel cancer cell recognition system was developed. Immobilization of SSEA-4 antibodies (αSSEA-4) on ZnO nanorods was performed in buffer solution (pH = 7.1) over 2 h. The cancer cell line probes were fixed on the glass slide. One hundred microliters of ZnO-αSSEA-4 conjugates were deposited on the cell probe and exposed for 30 min. After washing photoluminescence spectra were recorded. Based on the developed methodology, ZnO-αSSEA-4 probes were tested on patient-derived breast and colorectal carcinoma cells. Our data clearly show that the carbohydrate SSEA-4 molecule is expressed on cancer cell lines and patient-derived c…

Crosslinked α,β-Polyasparthydrazide Micromatrices for Controlled Release of Anticancer Drugs

1995

The preparation of new hydrogels by the reaction of α,β- polyasparthydrazide and glutaraldehyde is reported. A different crosslinking degree was obtained by varying the ratio crosslinking agent/polymer which influenced the swelling behavior of the gel. 5-Fluorouracil, was incorporated into the matrices during the crosslinking reaction and in vitro release studies were performed in simulated gastric juice (pH 1.1) and pH 7.4 buffer solution. The hydrogels prepared were chemically stable in the dissolution media. The observed data show the potential application of these new matrices for peroral administration of anticancer agents.

Protein and solvent dynamics of the water-soluble chlorophyll-binding protein (WSCP)

2015

This study presents quasielastic neutron scattering data of the water-soluble chlorophyll-binding protein (WSCP) and the corresponding buffer solution at room temperature. The contributions of protein and buffer solution to the overall scattering are carefully separated. Otherwise, the fast water dynamics dominating the buffer contribution is likely to mask the slow protein dynamics. In the case of WSCP, the protein scattering can be described by two contributions: i) internal protein dynamics represented by a diffusion in a sphere with an average radius of 2.7 u A and ii) global (Brownian) diffusion of the WSCP macromolecule with an upper limit for the translational diffusion coefficient o…

Physiological HEPES Buffer Proposed as a Calibrator for pH Measurement in Human Blood

1999

Abstract N-(2-hydroxyethyl)-piperazine-N'-2-ethanesulfonic acid, known as HEPES buffer, with p K in the physiological range was studied for use as an alternative to conventional phosphate buffer for the calibration of pH in modern clinical analyzers. In different series of aqueous equimolar HEPES buffer, pH was measured at 37 °C with a capillary glass electrode standardized previously using phosphate, and variations due to changes in total HEPES buffer concentration (0.025 to 0.320 mol/l), and NaCl (0 to 0.250 mol/l) were monitored. For 0.05 equimolar HEPES buffer without NaCl, the pH of 7.362 ± 0.003 (n = 15) obtained coincided well with the reference pH (7.364) from the National Institute…

Solubility of Quercetin in Wines

2022

Quercetin solubility at 18 °C and 0 °C was determined in an hydroalcoholic buffer solution with pH 3.20 and in four Italian wines to study the formation of quercetin precipitate mechanism in wines. The wines selected were Barbera 2018 for the typically high content in bisulfite bleachable pigments, red Cirò 2014, for its typically high content of flavonoids, Sangiovese 2014, for the presence of quercetin deposits in bottle, and white Cirò 2018, for the absence of red pigments. All the samples were spiked with 30 mg/L quercetin. The amount of quercetin solubilized at 18 °C and 0 °C in the hydroalcoholic buffer was much lower than in wines, while that solubilised in Barbera was much higher co…
