Explicit form of the time operator of a gaussian stationary process

2004

We present the time operator theory in the framework of stationary stochastic processes. The main results of the paper is the derivation of the time operator acting on the Fock space associated with a discrete time gaussian stationary process.

Conceptions associated with sense of belonging in different school placements for Finnish pupils with special education needs

2015

AbstractThe aim of this study was to examine conceptions associated with sense of belonging (SEBE) in Finnish general and special school placements for pupils with special education needs. Five pupils were selected for this study by means of purposive sampling. They had a history of several school placements prior to arriving at their current special school. Qualitative phenomenographic analyses of interview transcripts revealed numerous conceptions regarding the pupils’ SEBE in the different educational placements. The pupils had undergone numerous placements in which their SEBE had been jeopardised, as disturbing relationships with teachers and peers seemed to have affected the pupils’ me…

Double β Decay and the Axial Strength

2019

Quenching of the weak axial strength gA is discussed and relations of this quenching to the nuclear matrix elements of double beta decays are highlighted. An analysis of Gamow-Teller transitions in the mass range A = 62 − 142 is presented and its results are compared with those of many previous works. The enhancement of the axial charge is discussed for first-forbidden pseudoscalar β transitions. Higher-forbidden β transitions are introduced and their role in determining the effective value of gA is examined, in particular from the point of view of the β-decay half-lives and the shapes of electron spectra of forbidden non-unique β transitions. peerReviewed

Circulating miR-21, miR-146a and Fas ligand respond to postmenopausal estrogen-based hormone replacement therapy--a study with monozygotic twin pairs.

2014

Biological aging is associated with physiological deteriorations and its’ remodeling, which are partly due to changes in the hormonal profile. MicroRNAs are known to post-transcriptionally regulate various cellular processes associated with cell senescence; differentiation, replication and apoptosis. Measured from the serum, microRNAs have the potential to serve as noninvasive markers for diagnostics/prognostics and therapeutic targets. We analysed the association of estrogen-based hormone replacement therapy (HRT) with selected microRNAs and inflammation markers from the serum, leukocytes and muscle tissue biopsy samples obtained from 54-62 year-old postmenopausal monozygotic twins (n=11 p…

Gathering of aging and estrogen withdrawal in vascular dysfunction of senescent accelerated mice.

2010

The aim of this work was to characterize a mouse model of experimental menopause and cardiovascular aging that closely reflects menopause in women. Senescence accelerated mouse (SAM)-Resistant type 1 (SAMR1, n=30) and SAM-Prone type 8 (SAMP8, n=30) were separated at 5months of age into three groups: 1) sham-operated (Sham); 2) ovariectomized (Ovx); and 3) ovariectomized chronically-treated with estrogen (Ovx+E2). Contractile responses to KCl (60mM) and thromboxane A(2) were greater in aorta from SAMP8 mice compared with SAMR1 in all groups. Neither ovariectomy nor estrogen replacement modified the contractile responses from SAMR1 mice. Conversely, in Ovx SAMP8 the increased maximal contract…

Postmenopausal hormone replacement therapy modifies skeletal muscle composition and function: a study with monozygotic twin pairs

2009

We investigated whether long-term hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is associated with mobility and lower limb muscle performance and composition in postmenopausal women. Fifteen 54- to 62-yr-old monozygotic female twin pairs discordant for HRT were recruited from the Finnish Twin Cohort. Habitual (HWS) and maximal (MWS) walking speeds over 10 m, thigh muscle composition, lower body muscle power assessed as vertical jumping height, and maximal isometric hand grip and knee extension strengths were measured. Intrapair differences (IPD%) with 95% confidence intervals (CI) were calculated. The mean duration of HRT use was 6.9 ± 4.1 yr. MWS was on average 7% (0.9 to 13.1%, P = 0.019) and muscle…

SGLT2i and GLP-1RA in Cardiometabolic and Renal Diseases: From Glycemic Control to Adipose Tissue Inflammation and Senescence

2021

Background. Over the last few years, the use of sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) and glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RA) has increased substantially in medical practice due to their documented benefits in cardiorenal and metabolic health. In this sense, and in addition to being used for glycemic control in diabetic patients, these drugs also have other favorable effects such as weight loss and lowering blood pressure, and more recently, they have been shown to have cardio and renoprotective effects with anti-inflammatory properties. Concerning the latter, the individual or associated use of these antihyperglycemic agents has been linked with a decrease in p…

Whole-Genome Sequence of Stenotrophomonas maltophilia D457, a Clinical Isolate and a Model Strain

2012

ABSTRACT Stenotrophomonas maltophilia is an opportunistic pathogen with an environmental origin, and it is an increasingly relevant cause of nosocomial infections. Here we present the whole-genome sequence of S. maltophilia strain D457, a clinical isolate that is being used as a model for studying antibiotic resistance in this bacterial species.

Godbillon–Vey sequence and Françoise algorithm

2019

Abstract We consider foliations given by deformations d F + ϵ ω of exact forms dF in C 2 in a neighborhood of a family of cycles γ ( t ) ⊂ F − 1 ( t ) . In 1996 Francoise gave an algorithm for calculating the first nonzero term of the displacement function Δ along γ of such deformations. This algorithm recalls the well-known Godbillon–Vey sequences discovered in 1971 for investigation of integrability of a form ω. In this paper, we establish the correspondence between the two approaches and translate some results by Casale relating types of integrability for finite Godbillon–Vey sequences to the Francoise algorithm settings.

A comparison between a two feedback control loop and a reinforcement learning algorithm for compliant low-cost series elastic actuators

2020

Highly-compliant elastic actuators have become progressively prominent over the last years for a variety of robotic applications. With remarkable shock tolerance, elastic actuators are appropriate for robots operating in unstructured environments. In accordance with this trend, a novel elastic actuator was recently designed by our research group for Serpens, a low-cost, open-source and highly-compliant multi-purpose modular snake robot. To control the newly designed elastic actuators of Serpens, a two-feedback loops position control algorithm was proposed. The inner controller loop is implemented as a model reference adaptive controller (MRAC), while the outer control loop adopts a fuzzy pr…
