Parallel macro pipelining on the intel SCC many-core computer

In this paper we present how Intel's Single-Chip-Cloud processor behaves for parallel macro pipeline applications. Subsets of the SCC's available cores can be arranged as a pipeline where each core processes one stage of the overall workload. Each of the independent cores processes a small part of a larger task and feeds the following core with new data after it finishes its work. Our case-study is a parallel rendering system which renders successive images and applies different filters on them. Sorption and degradation are the primary processes controlling the efficacy and runoff contamination risk of agrochemicals. This study assessed the influence of two biochars, made from woodchips and straw at a pyrolysis temperature of 725°C and applied to a loamy sand and a sandy soil in the concentration of 5.3 g 100 g(-1) sandy soil and 4.1 g 100 g(-1) loamy sand soil, or 53 t ha(-1) for both soil types, on degradation of the herbicide 4-chloro-2-methylphenoxyacetic acid (MCPA). It defines the role and organization of the different levels of the administrative hierarchy (provinces, regions, cities and municipalities) down to the barangay and sitio/purok levels. A chromatin-associated protein from pea seeds preferentially binds histones H3 and H4

Pisum sativum p16 is a protein present in the chromatin of ungerminated embryonic axes. The purification of p16 and the isolation of a cDNA clone of psp54, the gene encoding its precursor have been recently reported [Castillo, J., Rodrigo, M. I., Marquez, J. A., Zuniga, A and Franco, L. (2000) Eur. J. Biochem.267, 2156-2165]. In the present paper, we present data showing that p16 is a nuclear protein. First, after subcellular fractionation, p16 was clearly found in nuclei, although the protein is also present in other organelles. Illicit trades and smuggling activities on the island of Stromboli, 1808–1816: gender roles during a commercial crisis

This article examines the impact of the Continental Blockade upon a local fishing and agricultural economy in the Mediterranean by focusing on the illicit trades that flourished on Stromboli. The island became a strategic location for smuggling between the warring kingdoms of British allied Naples and French ruled Sicily. This paper argues that the Blockade allowed Stromboli to join the network of maritime traffic that had been dominated by the two biggest islands in the archipelago. Chip calorimetry for the monitoring of whole cell biotransformation

Abstract Efficient control of whole cell biotransformation requires quantitative real-time information about the thermodynamics and kinetics of growth and product formation. Heat production contains such information, but its technical application is restricted due to the high price of calorimetric devices, the difficulty of integrating them into existing bioprocesses and the slow response times of established microcalorimeters. Reliability and effectiveness of Ellenberg’s indices in checking flora and vegetation changes induced by climatic variations

Two methods are proposed to assess the significance of time-spanned local variations of Ellenberg’s indicator values in floristic and phytosociological data sets respectively. Both methods are based on frequencies and averages of the indicator values within and among data sets. Main goal of proposed methods is to determine the threshold above which the observed variations are to be considered significant. In order to relate the observed floristic variations to recent climatic changes, attention was focused on the Ellenberg’s indices dealing with the main climatic variables: heliophany, temperature and precipitation.
