Neue chemotherapeutisch-aktive 4-trifluormethylpyrimidine

1993

Abstract Condensation of N -(2-hydroxyethyl)- N -methylguanidine sulfate with various β-diketonesbearing 1,1,1-trifluoromethyl substituents leads to 2-[ N -(2-hydroxyethyl)-methylamino]-4-trifluoromethylpyrimidine derivatives. These compounds exhibit antimycotic, trichomonazide and anti-HIV properties.

Über die Synthese methylsubstituierter P-Oligopenylene. 5. Mitteilung

1959

1999

The cross-conjugated oligomers 1a–d, which contain up to eight alternately arranged chalcone building blocks, were prepared by stereoselective condensation reactions of formyl and acetyl components. The synthetic sequence started with 1,4-dibromo-2,5-dipropoxybenzene (2). Bouveault reactions with DMF and DMA yielded the aldehydes 3 and 6 and the ketones 7 and 10. After the protection of the carbonyl group (3 4 and 7 8), a further Bouveault reaction led to monoprotected dialdehyd 5 and diketone 9, respectively. Repetitive condensation reactions starting with the acetophenone derivative 11 and 5 furnished the aldehyde 12, the ketone 13 and the aldehyde 14. In the final step the target compoun…

Towards an advanced atmospheric chemistry-enabled ESM with dynamic land surface processes: Part I - Linking LPJ-GUESS (v4.0) with EMAC modelling syst…

2018

Earth System Models (ESMs) are invaluable tools that have emerged from decades of research modelling the earth system. Central to this development has been the coupling of previously separate model types, such as ocean, atmospheric and vegetation models, to provide interactive feedbacks between these earth system components. Here we present the initial steps of coupling LPJ-GUESS, a dynamic global vegetation model, to EMAC, an atmospheric chemistry enabled atmosphere-ocean general circulation model. The LPJ-GUESS framework includes a comparatively detailed tree-individual based model of vegetation dynamics, a crop and managed-land scheme, a nitrogen cycle and a choice of fire models; and he…

Growth of nucleation mode particles in the summertime Arctic: a case study

2016

Abstract. The summertime Arctic lower troposphere is a relatively pristine background aerosol environment dominated by nucleation and Aitken mode particles. Understanding the mechanisms that control the formation and growth of aerosol is crucial for our ability to predict cloud properties and therefore radiative balance and climate. We present an analysis of an aerosol growth event observed in the Canadian Arctic Archipelago during summer as part of the NETCARE project. Under stable and clean atmospheric conditions, with low inversion heights, carbon monoxide less than 80 ppbv, and black carbon less than 5 ng m−3, we observe growth of small particles,  <  20 nm in diameter, into sizes ab…

Comparison of aircraft measurements during GoAmazon2014/5 and ACRIDICON-CHUVA

2019

Abstract. The indirect effect of atmospheric aerosol particles on the Earth's radiation balance remains one of the most uncertain components affecting climate change throughout the industrial period. The large uncertainty is partly due to the incomplete understanding of aerosol–cloud interactions. One objective of the GoAmazon2014/5 and the ACRIDICON (Aerosol, Cloud, Precipitation, and Radiation Interactions and Dynamics of Convective Cloud Systems)-CHUVA (Cloud Processes of the Main Precipitation Systems in Brazil) projects was to understand the influence of emissions from the tropical megacity of Manaus (Brazil) on the surrounding atmospheric environment of the rainforest and to investiga…

Linear relationship between effective radius and precipitation water content near the top of convective clouds: measurement results from ACRIDICON–CH…

2021

Quantifying the precipitation within clouds is a crucial challenge to improve our current understanding of the Earth's hydrological cycle. We have investigated the relationship between the effective radius of droplets and ice particles (re) and precipitation water content (PWC) measured by cloud probes near the top of growing convective cumuli. The data for this study were collected during the ACRIDICON–CHUVA campaign on the HALO research aircraft in clean and polluted conditions over the Amazon Basin and over the western tropical Atlantic in September 2014. Our results indicate a threshold of re∼13 µm for warm rain initiation in convective clouds, which is in agreement with previous studie…

Quantum field theory of dilute homogeneous Bose-Fermi mixtures at zero temperature: General formalism and beyond mean-field corrections

2002

We consider a dilute homogeneous mixture of bosons and spin-polarized fermions at zero temperature. We first construct the formal scheme for carrying out systematic perturbation theory in terms of single particle Green's functions. We introduce a new relevant object, the renormalized boson-fermion T-matrix which we determine to second order in the boson-fermion s-wave scattering length. We also discuss how to incorporate the usual boson-boson T-matrix in mean-field approximation to obtain the total ground state properties of the system. The next order term beyond mean-field stems from the boson-fermion interaction and is proportional to $a_{\scriptsize BF}k_{\scriptsize F}$. The total groun…

A weakly-interacting many-body system of Rydberg polaritons based on electromagnetically induced transparency

2020

We proposed utilizing a medium with a high optical depth (OD) and a Rydberg state of low principal quantum number, $n$, to create a weakly-interacting many-body system of Rydberg polaritons, based on the effect of electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT). We experimentally verified the mean field approach to weakly-interacting Rydberg polaritons, and observed the phase shift and attenuation induced by the dipole-dipole interaction (DDI). The DDI-induced phase shift or attenuation can be viewed as a consequence of the elastic or inelastic collisions among the Rydberg polaritons. Using a weakly-interacting system, we further observed that a larger DDI strength caused a width of the mome…
