How not to Resist the Natural Kind Talk in Biology

Abstract: After the dawn of the traditional, essentialist view of natural kinds in contemporary philosophy (exacerbated in philosophy of biology by “population thinking”), non-essentialist cluster conceptions of natural kinds have been extensively supported and applied to numerous biological categories. However, salient philosophers have put forward two challenging arguments against cluster kind theories. I argue that, in both cases, discontent with a cluster conception of natural kinds is motivated by tacit and previous assumptions that can be challenged. In questo articolo illustreremo alcuni esempi di canti di carcere riportati da Giuseppe Pitrè e Cesare Lombroso che diedero spunto a una polemica scientifica tra i due studiosi. L’analisi delle varianti che stanno alla base della disputa scientifica dei due fondatori della Demopsicologia e dell’Antropologia criminale, momento fondamentale della storia degli studi antropologici italiani dell’Ottocento, ci permetterà di comprendere come la trasmissione orale della cultura sia ancora oggi permeata dalle stesse modalità performativa che affondano le loro radici nei racconti dei miti.

The study of the extensive work of Álvaro Siza Vieira allows relating the progressive linguistic innovation and the spatial experimentation of his architecture with the use of different constructive techniques and technologies. The present paper addresses the question of the role Executive Education performs in the strengthening and reproduction of neoliberal ideology. The authorities have quickly developed a keen interest in television. The army, in particular, used it in order to build and promote its image in Spanish society. In spite of, the army doesn’t succeed to finish with its traditional isolation, neither to put to stop to its bad reputation. Indeed, the Spanish television emphasized the melodramatic dimension and the menacing presence of the army. The television shots of the attempted to coup d’état of February 23rd 1981 enabled that media to break with its propagandist function and to put a stop to the illusion according to which the past had been forgotten forever.

The article focuses on Finnish proverbs as a part of contemporary colloquial written language in everyday use and context. The article offers a view on what is happening with proverbs in the vernacular in Finnish everyday life. Most traditional Finnish proverbs originate from an agrarian context and still use agrarian language, even if nowadays they live in a new context with a new meaning. Abstract Longfellow’s Evangeline was hailed as a great and distinctively American work when it appeared in 1847, and the poem’s use of North American history was a key element in its favourable reception. This use of history, however, is ambiguous and complex. The epic continues, first of all, in a long tradition of romanticized retellings of the heart-rending story of the Acadians. But the work also engages in a dual-level dialogue with both the mid-eighteenth-century history of the Acadians, who are pitied, without inciting indignation, and the contemporary history of midnineteenth-century America, whose expansionism it both implicitly celebrates and criticizes. Abstract As a woman poet, Chen Jingrong’s productions encompassed the whole 20 th century: of particular interest are her poetry translations from the French language. Thanks to her translation work, valuable understanding of Charles Baudelaire’s poetry was made available in China, which influenced the Chinese contemporary poet, Duo Duo, when he first started writing poetry during his youth. This paper tries to depict the importance of this contribution of Chen Jingrong and its effect on the process of renovation of the contemporary poetic scene in China.
