The compound [Cu(N,N'app)Cl](2)[Fe(CN)(6)].xH(2)O, with N,N'app being bis(N,N'-3-aminopropylpiperazine), was prepared and its structure determined by single crystal X-ray analysis, confirming a ratio of two copper complexes to one iron complex; (57)Fe Mössbauer spectra showed three quadrupole doublets typical of iron(iii) low spin species which call for the presence of a superstructure.

The Potential of the Yeast Debaryomyces hansenii H525 to Degrade Biogenic Amines in Food

Twenty-six yeasts from different genera were investigated for their ability to metabolize biogenic amines. About half of the yeast strains produced one or more different biogenic amines, but some strains of Debaryomyces hansenii and Yarrowia lipolytica were also able to degrade such compounds. The most effective strain D. hanseniii H525 metabolized a broad spectrum of biogenic amines by growing and resting cells. Degradation of biogenic amines by this yeast isolate could be attributed to a peroxisomal amine oxidase activity. Strain H525 may be useful as a starter culture to reduce biogenic amines in fermented food.

Second harmonic generation in selenium-metal structures

The article examines the processes of second harmonic generation (SHG) when selenium-metal (Cu) film structures are illuminated by femtosecond radiation (180 fs, 80 MHz) at wavelength 800 – 1000 nm. Selenium-copper structures were obtained by successive thermal evaporation of selenium and copper onto the glass substrate in vacuum. Microanalysis of the film composition was performed to determine amount of copper in thin films. Mineral profile of kaki fruits (Diospyros kaki L.)

The main objective of this study was the determination of the mineral profile of 167 kaki fruit (Diospyros kaki L.) samples produced from different regions of Spain, including samples with the protected designation of origin (PDO) 'Kaki Ribera del Xúquer' Valencia (Spain). Samples were analysed by inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES) and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). Consumption of one piece of kaki fruit (200-400 g) would give a mineral intake providing 1-10% of the recommended daily allowance (RDA) for calcium, 1-30% for copper and potassium, 1-15% from iron and magnesium, up to 1% of sodium, and up to 4% of zinc. Two new trinuclear copper(II) complexes, [Cu(3)(μ(3)-OH)(daat)(Hdat)(2)(ClO(4))(2)(H(2)O)(3)](ClO(4))(2)·2H(2)O (1) and [Cu(3)(μ(3)-OH)(aaat)(3)(H(2)O)(3)](ClO(4))(2)·3H(2)O (2) (daat = 3,5-diacetylamino-1,2,4-triazolate, Hdat = 3,5-diamino-1,2,4-triazole, and aaat = 3-acetylamino-5-amino-1,2,4-triazolate), have been prepared from 1,2,4-triazole derivatives and structurally characterized by X-ray crystallography. Nuclease activity of [Cu(sulfathiazolato)2(benzimidazole)2]2MeOH. Synthesis, properties and crystal structure

The [Cu(sulfathiazolato)(2)(benzimidazole)(2)]2MeOH complex has been synthesised and characterised. It crystallises in the monoclinic system, space group C1c1, with unit cell dimensions a=18.829(7) A, b=12.206(3) A, c=17.233(5) A, alpha=90.06(2) degrees, beta=97.28(3) degrees, gamma=90.21(3) degrees and Z=4. The geometry around the copper(II) ion is intermediate between tetrahedral and square planar. The complex produces cleavage of plasmid pUC18 in presence of reducing agents. The efficiency of cleavage reaction of the title compound with pUC18 and with different reducing agents follows the order ascorbate-H(2)O(2)>ascorbate>MPA>dithiothreitol>H(2)O(2).

Density functional study of Cu2+-phenylalanine complex under micro-solvation environment

Abstract We present an atomistic study carried out using density functional calculations including structural relaxations and Car–Parrinello Molecular Dynamics (CPMD) simulations, aiming to investigate the structures of phenylalanine-copper (II) ([Phe-Cu] 2+ ) complexes and their micro-solvation processes. The structures of the [Phe-Cu] 2+ complex with up to four water molecules are optimized using the B3LYP/6-311++G** model in gas phase to identify the lowest energy structures at each degree of solvation ( n  = 0–4). Theoretical characterization of end-on and side-on peroxide coordination in ligated Cu2O2 models.

The relative energetics of mu-eta1:eta1 (trans end-on) and mu-eta2:eta2 (side-on) peroxo isomers of Cu2O2 fragments supported by 0, 2, 4, and 6 ammonia ligands have been computed with various density functional, coupled-cluster, and multiconfigurational protocols. There is substantial disagreement between the different levels for most cases, although completely renormalized coupled-cluster methods appear to offer the most reliable predictions. Antibiotic as Ligand. Coordinating Behavior of the Cephalexin Towards Zn(II) and Cd(II) Ions

The complex formation equilibria of Zn(II) and Cd(II) with cephalexin have been studied through potentiometric titrations. Experimental data were analyzed using the least squares computer program SUPERQUAD. The stability constants were 1g beta ZnCEX+ = 2.40, 1g beta Zn(CEX)(OH) = -4.54, 1g beta CdCEX+ = 2.18, and 1g beta Cd(CEX)(OH) = -5.18 (I = 0.1 M NaNO3), CEX complexes of formulae Zn(CEX)2(3)H2O and Cd(CEX)(OH)H2O have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectra, conductivity measurements, and electronic and NMR spectra.
