Post-Processing via Cation Exchange Cartridges: Versatile Options

2012

New 68Ge/68Ga radionuclide generators provide the positron emitter 68Ga (T½ = 67.7 min) as an easily available and relatively inexpensive source of a PET nuclide for labeling of interesting targeting vectors. However, currently available “ionic” 68Ge/68Ga radionuclide generators are not necessarily optimized for the routine synthesis of 68Ga-labeled radiopharmaceuticals in a clinical environment. Post-processing of 68Ge/68Ga generators using cation exchange resins provides chemically and radiochemically pure 68Ga with 97±2% within less than 4 min, with 68Ge almost completely removed, and ready for online labeling. This simple, fast, and efficient technology can be extended for new applicati…

Metal pins fired from unmodified blank cartridge guns and very small calibre weapons - technical and wound ballistic aspects

1998

Blank cartridge guns are generally regarded as being harmless and are not considered to be firearms in most countries. A comparison of the legal situations in Germany and Austria concerning weapons is given. There have been several reports of serious injuries and even fatalities due to these weapons. Ballistic experiments show that even unmodified blank cartridge guns and very small calibre weapons can fire wire nails and can inflict potentially fatal injuries even at distances of 50 cm. Two serious injuries inflicted by metal pins fired from a blank cartridge gun and a very small calibre weapon are reported. These cases suggest that such weapons should also be considered handguns in the le…

Selective determination of trimethylamine in air by liquid chromatography using solid phase extraction cartridges for sampling.

2004

Abstract The selective determination of trimethylamine (TMA) in air by liquid chromatography is reported. Sampling is effected by flushing air through C18-packed solid-phase extraction (SPE) cartridges at a flow rate of 15 mL/min for 15 min. Next, TMA is desorbed from the cartridges and injected into the chromatographic system. The analyte is then selectively retained on a precolumn ( 20 mm ×2.1 mm i.d., packed with 30 μm, Hypersil C18 phase), and derivatized on-line by injecting 9-fluorenylmethyl chloroformate (FMOC). Finally, the TMA-FMOC derivative is transferred to the analytical column ( 125 mm ×4 mm i.d., LiChrospher 100 RP18, 5 μm), and monitored at 262 nm. The method was applied to …

Flow Injection Fourier Transform Infrared Determination of Caffeine in Soft Drinks

1997

A fully automated procedure has been developed for FT-IR determination of caffeine in soft drinks. Samples are first degasified by filtration and then directly injected into a flow manifold and passed through a 100 mg C18 SPE cartridge, conditioned with methanol and water. After the cartridge has been cleaned with water, the caffeine is eluted with CHCl3 and stabilized with ethanol. The flow injection (FI) recording is obtained by measuring the absorbance at 1658 cm-1 with a baseline established at 1800 cm-1. Area values for the FI recording obtained between 0.4 and 1.4 min after sample injection are interpolated in the calibration graph of a series of aqueous standards of caffeine, which w…

Focused microwave-assisted Soxhlet extraction: An expeditive approach for the isolation of lipids from sausage products

2003

A prototype of extractor based on the conventional Soxhlet principles but assisted in the cartridge zone by focused microwaves is proposed for accelerating the extraction of lipids from sausage products. The extraction process has been optimised using a multivariate design involving the main variables influencing the performance of the prototype (namely, irradiation power P, irradiation time T and number of cycles C). Under the optimum working conditions (P=160 W, T=10 s and C=14), the extraction of lipids from different Spanish sausage products is complete in 45 min. The extracts thus obtained have been compared with those provided by conventional Soxhlet extraction for 8 h by development …

Calibration of LA-ICP-MS via standard addition using dried picoliter droplets

2020

A novel microanalytical calibration approach for quantitative spatially resolved analysis of thin layered materials with laser ablation-inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) is presented. This method relies on standard addition via the generation of dried pL-droplet residues. Therefore, a drop on demand dosing device based on a modified commercial ink cartridge and a dosing interface, both accessible via a self-constructed microcontroller, were developed. This dosing device enables the precise deposition of pL-droplets onto solid samples for the generation of residues with dimensions in the low μm-range. The LA-ICP-MS analysis of such residues allows calibration over at l…

Use of reversed-phase C18 Sep-Pak cartridges for the purification and concentration of sepiapterin and other pteridines

1985

Abstract Several pteridines have been tested for their ability to bind to C 18 Sep-Pak. Riboflavin, sepiapterin, deoxysepiapterin, 6-acetyl-7,8-dihydropterin, 6-acetyldihydrohomopterin and 3′-hydroxysepiapterin were strongly retained and all but 6-acetyldihydrohomopterin quantitatively recovered upon elution with 2 ml of methanol. The effect of the concentration and volume of the sample, pH and salt concentration on the retention of sepiapterin have been studied. The procedure was very useful for the purification, desalting, solvent exchange and concentration of pteridines having high affinity for the cartridge. C 18 Sep-Pak has been applied succesfully to sample clean-up prior to high-perf…

A method for the determination of dimethylamine in air by collection on solid support sorbent with subsequent derivatization and spectrophotometric a…

2005

A new method for dimethylamine determination in air is reported. The proposed assay is based on the employment of C18-packed solid phase extraction cartridges for sampling. The retained amine is then derivatized inside the cartridges with the reagent 1,2-naphthoquinone-4-sulfonate. By observing the coloured area of the cartridge, a semiquantitative estimation of the amine can be made. It was also possible to distinguish between primary and secondary amines by visual inspection. Quantitative tests entailed desorption from the cartridges of the derivatives formed, and measurement of the absorbance of the collected extracts. The selected conditions were applied to quantify dimethylamine up to …

More about sampling and estimation of mercaptans in air samples

2013

[EN] Several strategies have been developed for sampling and determination of volatile thiols. The selectivity and sensitivity of the proposed methodologies are achieved by using a specific derivatizing reagent. The different procedures assayed are based on air sampling followed by derivatization of the analytes with OPA and isoleucine in alkaline solution. The derivatization products are separated and determined by liquid chromatography and fluorescence detection. To start, the derivatization conditions and stability of the derivates have been studied in order to establish the storage conditions. In general, the strategies studied consisted on trapping and detivatization the thiol compound…
