ChemInform Abstract: Asymmetric Synthesis of Cyclopentanes Bearing Four Contiguous Stereocenters via an NHC-Catalyzed Michael/Michael/Esterification …

2016

An NHC-catalyzed Michael/Michael/esterification domino reaction via homoenolate/enolate intermediates for the asymmetric synthesis of tetrasubstituted cyclopentanes bearing four contiguous stereocenters is described. A variety of α,β-unsaturated aldehydes and 2-nitroallylic acetates react well with good domino yields and high stereoselectivities.

Measurement of the Atmospheric ve flux in IceCube

2012

We report the first measurement of the atmospheric electron neutrino flux in the energy range between approximately 80 GeV and 6 TeV, using data recorded during the first year of operation of IceCube's DeepCore low energy extension. Techniques to identify neutrinos interacting within the DeepCore volume and veto muons originating outside the detector are demonstrated. A sample of 1029 events is observed in 281 days of data, of which 496 $\pm$ 66(stat.) $\pm$ 88(syst.) are estimated to be cascade events, including both electron neutrino and neutral current events. The rest of the sample includes residual backgrounds due to atmospheric muons and charged current interactions of atmospheric muo…

DNA-Based Enzyme Reactors and Systems

2016

During recent years, the possibility to create custom biocompatible nanoshapes using DNA as a building material has rapidly emerged. Further, these rationally designed DNA structures could be exploited in positioning pivotal molecules, such as enzymes, with nanometer-level precision. This feature could be used in the fabrication of artificial biochemical machinery that is able to mimic the complex reactions found in living cells. Currently, DNA-enzyme hybrids can be used to control (multi-enzyme) cascade reactions and to regulate the enzyme functions and the reaction pathways. Moreover, sophisticated DNA structures can be utilized in encapsulating active enzymes and delivering the molecular…

Top consumer abundance influences lake methane efflux

2015

Lakes are important habitats for biogeochemical cycling of carbon. The organization and structure of aquatic communities influences the biogeochemical interactions between lakes and the atmosphere. Understanding how trophic structure regulates ecosystem functions and influences greenhouse gas efflux from lakes is critical to understanding global carbon cycling and climate change. With a whole-lake experiment in which a previously fishless lake was divided into two treatment basins where fish abundance was manipulated, we show how a trophic cascade from fish to microbes affects methane efflux to the atmosphere. Here, fish exert high grazing pressure and remove nearly all zooplankton. This re…

Thromboinflammation and Vascular Dysfunction.

2018

Thromboinflammation and vascular dysfunction are inseparably combined with the innate and the adaptive immune response. While the role of this interplay has gained considerable attention in the arena of atherosclerosis/atherothrombosis and in deep vein thrombosis, its role in other forms of vascular disease and risk factors is currently emerging. In this brief review, we will focus on thromboinflammation with regard to cytokine signalling as well as on the novel role of a vascular coagulation-inflammatory circuit in arterial hypertension.Thrombo-Inflammation und vaskuläre Dysfunktion sind untrennbar mit dem angeborenen und dem erworbenen Immunsystem verbunden. Mechanistic details of the domino reaction of nitronaphthalenes with the electron-rich dienes. A DFT study

2008

Abstract The reaction of 1-nitronaphthalene ( 1 ) with the Danishefsky diene ( 2 ) to give the dihydrophenanthrene derivative 11 has been theoretically studied using DFT methods. This reaction is a domino process that is initialized by a polar Diels–Alder reaction between 1 and 2 to give the formally [2 + 4] cycloadduct 3 . The subsequent concerted elimination of nitrous acid ( 4 ) from 3 yields 11 . Analysis of the global reactivity indices as well as the thermodynamic data for this domino process indicate that while the large electrophilic character of 1 together with the large nucleophilic character of 2 are responsible for the participation of these reagents in a polar Diels–Alder react…

Theoretical study on the mechanism of the domino reactions of tertiary α-cyano-enamines and dimethyl acetylenedicarboxylate

2001

Abstract The mechanisms of the domino reaction between dimethyl acetylenedicarboxylate, 1 , and 2-( N , N -dimethylamino)acrylonitrile, 2 , and these in presence of acrylonitrile have been theoretically studied using ab initio methods. These domino reactions comprise several pericyclic-type reactions. The geometrical and electronic analysis of the HF/6-31G ∗ transition structures and intermediates allows characterizing the processes that take place along these domino reactions. B3LYP/6-31G ∗ energetic results are in agreement with the experimental outcomes.

Validation of a New Method for the Diagnosis of Rotor bar Failures via Wavelet Transformation in Industrial Induction Machines

2006

[EN] In this paper, the authors propose a method for the diagnosis of rotor bar failures in induction machines, based on the analysis of the stator current during the startup using the discrete wavelet transform (DWT). Unlike other approaches, the study of the high-order wavelet signals resulting from the decomposition is the core of the proposed method. After an introduction of the physical and mathematical bases of the method, a description of the proposed approach is given; for this purpose, a numerical model of induction machine is used in such a way that the effects of a bar breakage can clearly be shown, avoiding the influence of other phenomena not related with the fault. Afterward, …

Pattern recognition using sequential matched filtering of wavelet coefficients

1997

Abstract A bank of wavelets is used for pattern recognition by means of sequential filtering. Each element of the bank is matched to a different wavelet coefficient of the target. A sequential process leads to a set of correlation outputs. Post-processing by means of a fast blending method provides the final output correlation. Both computer simulations and optical experiments are presented, showing the discrimination capability for this implementation.
