The dynamics over the next few years of the Spanish mobile telecommunications market share: a mathematical modelling approach
2013
Taking into account available data from 2002 to 2009 about the market share percentages of the Spanish mobile telecommunications service providers, a dynamic diffusion model to study the evolution of the clients’ change between the different companies during the period 2010–2016 is proposed. The constructed model provides a tool for forecasting short-term trends about the customers’ preferences with respect to mobile network operators taking into account both, autonomous decisions due to direct marketing and advertising strategies, and also decisions adopted through interaction via social influence. The model can provide insights to companies for designing strategies in order to gain market…
The Role of Parasocial Interaction and Teleparticipation on Teleshopping Behaviour
2011
Nowadays, television media has evolved into an important channel of direct selling that brands and advertisers are exploiting. Many technological changes (e.g., digital television appearance or the integration of Internet in the TV medium and mobile technology) have increasingly led to consumers see television as a channel for purchasing products and services and as a source of information (Beyer et al., 2007). However, researchers have put little interest on teleshopping, one of the consumer behaviour phenomena.
Public versus private broadcasters’ management
2014
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to prove the existence of significant differences between private and public corporate credibility antecedents and effects. Design/methodology/approach – Totally, 816 Spanish viewers’ valuations were obtained (408 for the public television network and 408 for four private first generation broadcasters). Results show that some corporate reputation antecedents (perceived quality) and effects (attitudes) are stronger when private broadcasters are considered. Findings – Result show that proposed credibility reputation antecedents and effects are significant and that some differences between private and public entities really do exist. Research limitations…
No public value without a valued public
2017
This study aims to enlighten the controversial discussion about the term public value in an innovative way. Instead of normative pronouncements and paternalistic posits, this study combines a theoretical, literature-based conception with an empirical quantitative approach. For this, the key term, public value, is split into its constituent parts of customer value and citizen value and is transformed into measurable attributes. By means of a choice-based conjoint analysis on panel data for Germany and the United Kingdom, we explore which performance attributes of public service broadcasters are the most important. Based on the results, we create a conception of public value from the perspect…
Empirical analysis of daily cash flow time-series and its implications for forecasting
2019
Usual assumptions on the statistical properties of daily net cash flows include normality, absence of correlation and stationarity. We provide a comprehensive study based on a real-world cash flow data set showing that: (i) the usual assumption of normality, absence of correlation and stationarity hardly appear; (ii) non-linearity is often relevant for forecasting; and (iii) typical data transformations have little impact on linearity and normality. This evidence may lead to consider a more data-driven approach such as time-series forecasting in an attempt to provide cash managers with expert systems in cash management.
Novel Polycaprolactone Nanocomposites Containing Thymol of Interest in Antimicrobial Film and Coating Applications
2008
It is well-known that the nanocomposites technology can significantly enhance, among others, the thermal, mechanical, and barrier properties of plastics. It is also known that most bioplastics, including the thermoplastic biopolymers, have lower than desired levels for certain properties which makes their use in certain packaging applications problematic. The combination of active technologies such as antimicrobials and nanotechnologies such as nanocomposites can synergistically lead to bioplastic formulations with balanced properties and functionalities for their implementation in packaging applications. The present work presents the development and characterization of novel nanocomposite…
Composite films of natural clay nanotubes with cellulose and chitosan
2014
Composite films based on cellulose, chitosan and halloysite clay nanotubes were prepared using a solution casting method, which allowed for a uniform distribution of nanotubes within the material and provided control over the morphology of the composite. The mechanical performance of these bio nanocomposites is influenced by humidity and the nanotubes showed a plasticisation effect on the polymeric matrix. The composites of chitosan and halloysite nanotubes (HNTs), with modified hydrophobic inner lumens, resulted in a technique for controlled and sustainable surface cleaning. Lignocellulose wood microfibres modified with HNTs were also produced by a layer-by-layer assembly. The obtained ma…
Deposition and production of highly reproducible hybrid Cu[(tBu)4Pc]-polystyrene thin layers via spin casting
2012
This study focuses on the determination of a protocol for the production of a hybrid material composed of a polymer and a macrocyclic complex, namely polystyrene and a tetra-tert-butyl-copper phthalocyanine (Cu[(tBu)4Pc]), in order to obtain a layer thickness of about 100 nm and a controlled porosity in a highly reproducible way. Several methods were implemented and their reproducibility was evaluated through elements of characterization such as optical microscopy, atomic force microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. Formation of micro- and nano-spheric particles (filter dust) during the preparation of cellulose acetate membranes
2003
Abstract Membranes were prepared from six samples of cellulose acetate (CA) differing in their average molecular weight (75–260 kg/mole) and molecular weight distribution using methyl acetate as solvent and 2-propanole as precipitant. The routes through the phase diagram and the evaporation times were varied in these experiments. Electron microscopy demonstrates that the amount of filter dust (CA particles deposited on the membrane surface) decreases as the fraction of low molecular weight material in the starting polymer becomes less. For low average molar mass of CA and moderate polymer concentrations in the casting solution the dust consists of individual spheres of relatively uniform si…
Effect of the Biopolymer Charge and the Nanoclay Morphology on Nanocomposite Materials
2016
This work represents a contribution to the design, preparation, and characterization of nanocomposite materials based on biocompatible components. The effects of composition, filler geometry, and polymer charge were highlighted, and their role on the final properties of the nanocomposites was revealed. We combined some biopolymers (methylcellulose, alginate, chitosan) with two nanoclays (kaolinite sheets and halloysite nanotubes) to prepare nanocomposites by means of the casting method from water. The thermal stability, the surface wettability, and the mechanical properties of the obtained films were studied. SEM micrographs highlighted the surface morphology of the biocomposite materials. …
