Reduction of Polymerization Shrinkage Stress and Marginal Microleakage Using Soft-Start Polymerization
2003
Purpose: This study evaluated the influence of a soft-start light-curing exposure on polymerization shrinkage stress and marginal integrity of adhesive restorations. Materials and Methods: Six resin-based composites (Pertac II, Tetric Ceram, Definite, Surefil, Solitaire, and Visio-Molar) were adhesively bonded to a cylindrical cavity (n = 9 per material/light) in a photoelastic material. Visible light-curing was applied using either the standard polymerization mode (800 mW/cm2 exposure duration 40 s) of the curing light (Elipar TriLight, 3M ESPE) or the exponential mode from the same device (ramp-curing: 150 mW/cm2 to 800 mW/cm2 within the first 15 s of a total curing time of 40 s). Polymer…
Pathogenesis of circulatory reactions triggered by nervous reflexes during the implantation of bone cements.
1983
Circulatory and respiratory reactions during the implantation of joint endoprostheses have been observed for years. The components of the bone cements used for anchoring (methyl methacrylate monomer) or the outpour of bone marrow substances from the affected bone marrow cavity are thought to be chiefly responsible for these effects. However, our previous investigations demonstrated unambiguously that reactions of this type can be attributed to direct nervous-reflex mechanisms triggered by the pressure rise in the medullary canal, and that, in addition, bone marrow embolism plays a part in serious circulatory incidents. The investigations on which the present paper is based have confirmed th…
Fiber Post Removal: Comparative Study Using a New Post Concept
2009
Objectives: To evaluate the time required to remove endodontic posts made of quartz and glass fibers, and compare them to a new glass fiber post designed for easy removal on the basis of efficiency and tooth damages. Methods: 40 human single-rooted teeth were treated endodontically and randomly assigned to four fiber posts groups: 1) was restored with Premier#90 (Innotech); 2) with DT#2 Lightpost (Dentsply); 3) with Unicore#3 (Ultradent); 4) with a special, soft-cored “S” glass fiber post ER-Prosthetic#3 (Overfibers). An impression of the canal was taken prior post cementation. The posts were luted with Panavia F and adhesive (Kuraray). All the specimens were mounted in a dental simulation …
Complete Genome Sequence of Acidaminococcus intestini RYC-MR95, a Gram-Negative Bacterium from the Phylum Firmicutes
2011
ABSTRACT Acidaminococcus intestini belongs to the family Acidaminococcaceae , order Selenomonadales , class Negativicutes , phylum Firmicutes . Negativicutes show the double-membrane system of Gram-negative bacteria, although their chromosomal backbone is closely related to that of Gram-positive bacteria of the phylum Firmicutes . The complete genome of a clinical A. intestini strain is here presented.
The effect of dentine pre-treatment using bioglass and/or polyacrylic acid on the interfacial characteristics of resin-modified glass ionomer cements.
2018
Objective To evaluate the effect of load-cycle aging and/or 6 months artificial saliva (AS) storage on bond durability and interfacial ultramorphology of resin-modified glass ionomer cement (RMGIC) applied to dentine air-abraded using Bioglass 45S5 (BAG) with/without polyacrylic acid (PAA) conditioning. Methods RMGIC (Ionolux, VOCO) was applied onto human dentine specimens prepared with silicon-carbide abrasive paper or air-abraded with BAG with or without the use of PAA conditioning. Half of bonded-teeth were submitted to load cycling (150,000 cycles) and half immersed in deionised water for 24 h. They were cut into matchsticks and submitted immediately to microtensile bond strength (μTBS) …

Toxicity of a dental adhesive compared with ionizing radiation and zoledronic acid
2015
Background: To determine the toxicity of aqueous dilutions of a universal self-priming dental adhesive (DA) and comparing these with those elicited by exposure to ionizing radiation (IR), Zoledronic acid (Z) treatment and the synergic effects of the combined treatment with IR+Z. Material and Methods: The genotoxic effect of DA was determined by the increase in the frequency of micronuclei in cytokinesis-blocked in cultured human lymphocytes before and after exposure to 2Gy of X-rays. The cytotoxic effect was studied by using the MTT cell viability test in normal prostate cell lines (PNT2) after exposure to different X-ray doses (0Gy-20Gy). The cell lines divided into different groups and tr…
Neutron Scattering Reveals Enhanced Protein Dynamics in Concanavalin A Amyloid Fibrils
2012
Protein aggregation is one of the most challenging topics in life sciences, and it is implicated in several human pathologies. The nature and the role of toxic species is highly debated, with amyloid fibrils being among the most relevant species for their peculiar structural and functional properties. Protein dynamics and in particular the ability to fluctuate through a large number of conformational substates are closely related to protein function. This Letter focuses on amyloid fibril dynamics, and, to our knowledge, it is the first neutron scattering study on a protein (Concanavalin A) isolated in its fibril state. Our results reveal enhanced atomic fluctuations in amyloid fibrils and i…
