Goals and guesses as reference points: a field experiment on student performance

In this paper, we study overconfidence and goal-setting in academic performance, with and without monetary incentives. Students enrolled in a microeconomics course were offered the possibility of setting their own target grade before taking part in the final exam. They were also asked to guess their grade immediately after they had taken the exam (“post-diction”). In general, students overestimated their performance, both at the goal-setting and at the post-diction stages. Music is a common resource for the regulation of emotions, moods, and stress. This study aimed at determining the individual and relative impact on stress reduction of two of the main factors involved in musical affect regulation: regulation strategies and music itself. The current study took place in an experimental setting and followed a factorial within-subjects design. Resume La microdeletion 22q11.2 est le syndrome microdeletionnel le plus frequent de la population generale. Le phenotype associe des anomalies de l’appareil pharynge embryonnaire a un phenotype neurocomportemental. La presentation clinique du syndrome est extremement variable d’un individu a l’autre, quelle que soit la taille de la deletion, et plus de 180 manifestations ont ete decrites, aucune n’etant pathognomonique. Les symptomes psychiatriques, particulierement de nature psychotique, sont frequents dans la microdeletion 22q11.2 et de nombreux psychiatres sont amenes a rencontrer ces patients. In this article, our focus is on sustainable development in mathematics education from the point of view of teacher training. The aim was to develop prospective teachers’ content knowledge and pedagogical content knowledge of school mathematics. As a case study, we chose the mathematical symbol “a/b”, and examined how prospective class teachers in Finland connect it to the concepts of fraction, ratio, division, rational number or probability.
