A combined single range and single image device for low-cost measurement of building facade features

The dimensions of building facades and window apertures are usually determined by making direct measurements using tapes and plummets. This approach, however, has a number of drawbacks including the physical risk to which the persons making the measurements are exposed. This paper proposes an indirect approach based on close range photogrammetry that is inexpensive, simple, fast and safe, and which does not require specialist staff or direct ground control measurements. A very common configuration of V-belt variators for motorcycles considers the correction of the belt tensioning depending on the resistant torque by means of suitable helical-shaped tracks allowing the driven half-pulleys to close/open. The t(8;21) chromosomal translocation activates aberrant expression of the AML1-ETO (AE) fusion protein and is commonly associated with core binding factor acute myeloid leukaemia (CBF AML). Combining a conditional mouse model that closely resembles the slow evolution and the mosaic AE expression pattern of human t(8;21) CBF AML with global transcriptome sequencing, we find that disease progression was characterized by two principal pathogenic mechanisms. Initially, AE expression modified the lineage potential of haematopoietic stem cells (HSCs), resulting in the selective expansion of the myeloid compartment at the expense of normal erythro- and lymphopoiesis. A stereoselective synthesis of (+)-malyngolide via a ring-closing olefin metathesis

Abstract A very short and stereoselective synthesis of the non-natural enantiomer of malyngolide from l -erythrulose is described. Key features of the synthesis are the Felkin–Anh diastereoselective allylation of a polyoxygenated ketone and the allylation/metathesis/allylic oxidation protocol recently described by our group.

Synthetic Approaches to Anti-Inflammatory Macrolactones of the Oxacyclododecindione Type

Various synthetic approaches to the oxacyclododecindione-type macrolactones, known for their potent anti-inflammatory activity, are presented. These include an attempted carbonylative ring closure, a hydroacylation route, and an approach by ring-closing metathesis and double bond isomerization, as well as a strategy including ring-closing metathesis/unsaturation. The last route allowed the preparation of a bioactive analogue of the recently described 14-deoxyoxacyclododecindione.

Closed-loop recycling. A case study of films for greenhouses

Abstract The degradation undergone by plastic films used for greenhouse coverage is the main cause of the worsening of the processability, of the mechanical properties and of the durability of secondary materials obtained by their recycling. This means that this secondary material cannot be processed to produce films for the same applications (closed-loop recycling). In this work different strategies are proposed to improve the processability, some mechanical properties and the resistance to photo-oxidation of these secondary materials. In particular, homopolymer blends or multilayer films where the secondary material is used in combination with virgin polymer give the best results.

Connexin 43 (Cx43) is a main component of intercellular gap junction channels in cardiomyocytes. The presence of Cx43 in heart mitochondria has been also reported, where it may participate in energy metabolism and protection against ischemia. Given the key role for mitochondria in pathogenesis of heart diseases, we examined how mitochondrial function could be altered in case of Cx43 pharmacological inhibition by carbenoxolone (CBX). Oxygen consumption rates under various substrate conditions were determined either in ventricles from pig hearts using saponin-permeabilized fibers, or in isolated mitochondria from rat hearts.
