Adaptive Backstepping Control of Nonlinear Uncertain Systems With Quantized States

This paper investigates the stabilization problem for uncertain nonlinear systems with quantized states. All states in the system are quantized by a static bounded quantizer, including uniform quantizer, hysteresis-uniform quantizer, and logarithmic-uniform quantizer as examples. An adaptive backstepping-based control algorithm, which can handle discontinuity, resulted from the state quantization and a new approach to stability analysis are developed by constructing a new compensation scheme for the effects of the state quantization. Post-transcriptional control of gene expression by small regulatory noncoding RNA (sRNA) needs protein accomplices to occur. Past research mainly focused on the RNA chaperone Hfq as cofactor. Nevertheless, recent studies indicated that other proteins might be involved in sRNA-based regulations. As some of these proteins have been shown to self-assemble, we describe in this chapter protocols to analyze the nano-assemblies formed. AbstractTwo hypotheses have been proposed to explain the formation manner for visual working memory (VWM) representations during the consolidation process: an all-or-none process hypothesis and a coarse-to-fine process hypothesis. However, neither the all-or-none process hypothesis nor the coarse-to-fine process hypothesis can stipulate clearly how VWM representations are formed during the consolidation process. Longevity-related molecular pathways are subject to midlife “switch” in humans

Emerging evidence indicates that molecular aging may follow nonlinear or discontinuous trajectories. Whether this occurs in human neuromuscular tissue, particularly for the noncoding transcriptome, and independent of metabolic and aerobic capacities, is unknown. Applying our novel RNA method to quantify tissue coding and long noncoding RNA (lncRNA), we identified ~800 transcripts tracking with age up to ~60 years in human muscle and brain. Tree species identity and diversity drive fungal richness and community composition along an elevational gradient in a Mediterranean ecosystem

Ecological and taxonomic knowledge is important for conservation and utilization of biodiversity. Biodiversity and ecology of fungi in Mediterranean ecosystems is poorly understood. Here, we examined the diversity and spatial dis- tribution of fungi along an elevational gradient in a Mediterranean ecosystem, using DNA metabarcoding. This study provides novel information about diversity of all eco- logical and taxonomic groups of fungi along an elevational gradient in a Mediterranean ecosystem. Increasing evidence indicates that extracellular vesicles (EVs) released from both tumor cells and the cells of the bone marrow microenvironment contribute to the pathobiology of multiple myeloma (MM). Summary Metastasis is the primary cause of death of cancer patients. Dissecting mechanisms governing metastatic spread may uncover important tumor biology and/or yield promising therapeutic insights. Here, we investigated the role of circular RNAs (circRNA) in metastasis, using melanoma as a model aggressive tumor. We identified silencing of cerebellar degeneration-related 1 antisense (CDR1as), a regulator of miR-7, as a hallmark of melanoma progression. Differential distribution and enrichment of non-coding RNAs in exosomes from normal and Cancer-associated fibroblasts in colorectal cancer.

Exosome production from cancer-associated fibroblasts seems to be an important driver of tumor progression. We report the first in-depth biotype characterization of ncRNAs, analyzed by Next Generation Sequencing and Bioinformatics, expressed in established primary human normal and cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) from cancer and normal mucosa tissues from 9 colorectal cancer patients, and/or packaged in their derived exosomes. Neurons at primary visual cortex (V1) in humans and other species are edge filters organized in orientation maps. In these maps, neurons with similar orientation preference are clustered together in iso-orientation domains.
