This is a reassessment of the work of Tadeusz Rittner, a bilingual Polish/German writer and dramatist from Galicia who won much acclaim in the early decades of the last century. This article examines his narrative and dramatic strategies by focusing on his drama Lato (Summer), published in 1913. It is a story about a timid young man who, after hearing from his doctor that he will not live much longer, turns suddenly into a bold and shameless seducer. Ferdinand Wilhelm Bronners "Schmelz, der Nibelunge" comedy (1905) reflects anti-Semitism and anti-Slavism in Vienna around 1900. The main character suffers painfully from the inner conflict between her German-national identification and her Jewish descent. The author of the comedy converted to Protestntism and denied all his life his Jewish heritage. The aim is to clarify whether the Galician Jew and writer Ferdinand Bronner offers on stage a solution to the Jewish question that transcends racial anti-Semitism and Zionism beyond the seemingly opposite tendencies in time.

La commedia elegiaca e la tragedia latina del XII e XIII secolo mostrano una larga e varia ricchezza di caratteristiche, temi, soggetti e tipologie letterarie: uso del distico elegiaco, "imitatio" ovidiana, preponderanza della tematica amorosa, compresenza di narrazione e dialogo, e così via. Un elemento caratterizzante di alcune di queste commedie e tragedie medievali è rappresentato dalle scene giudiziarie. The so-called De Cavichiolo, a brief dialogic text comprising 76 elegiac couplets, centred on the exchange between a dissatisfied wife and a sodomite husband, has posed many delicate and controversial problems to those scholars who have studied this work. The principal issues, strictly correlated and interdependent, concern the chronology of the pièce (hypothesis range between the XII-XIII and XV centuries) and the relationship connecting this text to Boccaccio’s tale of Pietro di Vinciolo (Decam. In his 1895 adaptation of Aristophanes’ Lysistrata prepared for the Kraków Theatre, Stanisław Koźmian, wishing to avoid stage ‘archaeologism,’ based the text on the contemporary adaptation by Charles Maurice Don- nay, to which he added several scenes taken from the Greek original. The ambitious plan to translate a theatrical experience from over two thousand years ago into the language of modern communication was achieved by introducing contemporary political allusions. The paper presents a detailed analysis of a little known play by Tadeusz Rittner entitled Red Bouquet, staged in 1905 first in Lviv, subsequently in Kraków, and published only in 1978. Zbigniew Raszewski, an expert in Rittner’s works, presented a negative review of the play. In this paper, the author attempts to correct Raszewski’s arbitrary statements by referring to the concept of comedy and theatrical dialogue developed by Rittner and published in the magazines of his time. Rittner’s views were in line with the order of the evolution of drama in the early 20th century which consisted in the liberation of aesthetic categories from genre-related limitations.
