Effects of Acifluorfen-methyl on cucumber cotyledons : porphyrin accumulation

Abstract The nitrodiphenyl ether herbicide acifluorfen-methyl and the pyridine derivative LS 82-556 induce porphyrin accumulation in green cucumber cotyledons. When experiments are done with intact plants absorbing the herbicide through the roots, that accumulation is light-dependent. 3-(3,4-Dichlorophenyl)-1,1-dimethylurea (DCMU) which prevents cellular damages under these conditions (M. Matringe and R. Scalla, Pestic. Biochem. Physiol. 26 , 150 (1986), also inhibits porphyrin accumulation. In contrast, when detached cotyledons are cut into pieces and floated on herbicide solutions, porphyrins accumulate in the dark. Changes of bioactive compounds in barley industry by‐products during submerged and solid state fermentation with antimicrobial Pediococcus acidilacti…

Abstract In this study, changes of bioactive compounds (crude protein (CP), crude fat (CF), dietary fiber (DF), fatty acids (FAs), free amino acids (FAAs), phenolic compounds (PCs), biogenic amines (BAs), lignans, and alkylresorcinols) in barley industry by‐products (BB) during submerged and solid state fermentation (SSF) with Pediococcus acidilactici were analyzed. It was established that both fermentation conditions reduce the CP and CF content in BB (by 25.8% and 35.9%, respectively) and increase DF content (on average by 25.0%). Sterol and ecdysteroids profiles of Serratula tinctoria (L.) : plant and cell cultures producing steroids

Abstract Cell suspension cultures have been obtained from Serratula tinctoria, a plant producing ecdysteroids. Sterol profiles and ecdysteroid contents have been analysed and compared in plants and cell cultures. In particular, the composition of free and esterified sterols was investigated using appropriate analytical techniques. In plants, esterified sterols were more abundant (50–70% of the total sterol) than in cell cultures (13–36%). A selectivity for sterol esterification was noted: in plants, the triterpenes (as amyrins) were esterified, whereas it was the 4-desmethylsterols (sitosterol and cholesterol) in cell cultures. Downregulation of thioredoxin-1-dependent CD95 S-nitrosation by Sorafenib reduces liver cancer

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) represents 80% of the primary hepatic neoplasms. It is the sixth most frequent neoplasm, the fourth cause of cancer-related death, and 7% of registered malignancies. Sorafenib is the first line molecular targeted therapy for patients in advanced stage of HCC.
