Celecoxib for recurrent sclerouveitis after syphilitic panuveitis. A case report

2011

Purpose To report a case of recurrent ocular inflammation after optimal therapy of bilateral syphilitic panuveitis responding to oral celecoxib. Methods A case report was conducted. Results A 76-year-old man presented with painful blurry vision in both eyes. Ocular examination disclosed bilateral panuveitis. Serological testing confirmed blood and cerebrospinal fluid syphilitic involvement. After 2 weeks of intravenous penicillin therapy, recurrent episodic sclerouveitis was observed. Conclusion Ocular inflammation after healing of infectious uveitis is a rare ophthalmic sequela. In an immunocompetent patient, either re-infection or immune uveitis should be evoked. Non-steroidal therapeutic…

Treatment with a CO-releasing molecule (CORM-3) reduces joint inflammation and erosion in murine collagen-induced arthritis.

2008

Contains fulltext : 70589.pdf (Publisher’s version ) (Closed access) OBJECTIVE: CO-releasing molecules (CO-RMs) are a novel class of anti-inflammatory agents. We have examined the possible therapeutic effects of CORM-3 in collagen-induced arthritis (CIA). METHODS: Arthritis was induced in DBA-1/J mice by type II collagen. Animals were treated with CORM-3 (5 and 10 mg/kg/day, intraperitoneally) or the inactive compound iCORM-3 (10 mg/kg/day, intraperitoneally) unable to release CO, from days 22 to 31. Production of anti-type II collagen antibodies, cytokines and cartilage olimeric matrix protein (COMP) was evaluated by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, and prostaglandin E(2) (PGE(2)) by rad…

Mixtures identification of chemical compounds on the basis of their IR spectra by artificial intelligence

2012

Infrared (IR) spectrometric identification of individual chemical compounds from their mixtures is still a challenging process. Therefore, we developed a method in which we use the IR “Fingerprint” spectra of a particular chemical substance followed by artificial intelligence (AI) – based analysis to correctly characterise components of relatively simple chemical mixtures. We describe here the assembly of tools developed especially for this purpose as well as the artificial neural network design together with the requirements that must be met for its proper functioning. To test our approach, we used a mixture of amphetamine and creatinine which are difficult to identify in mixtures by stand…

Acidity and basicity of primaryN-phenylnitramines: catalytic effect of protons on the nitramine rearrangement

2002

Para-substituted N-phenylnitramines were prepared either by oxidation of diazonium salts or by nitration under alkaline or acidic conditions. Isotopic [15N-NO2] labelling indicated that the bands characteristic of the N-nitro group appear in the 1318–1323 and 1585–1607 cm−1 regions. In the nitrogen NMR spectra, the nitramino group gives two resonances at −193 ± 3 (NH) and −32 ± 3 ppm (NO2). The chemical shifts in proton and carbon NMR spectra are predictable, based on increments and the additivity rule. The spectral data indicate the lack of conjugation between the nitramino group and another substituent bound to the ring. It seems to contradict the well-known fact that substituents strongl…

Modification of a commercial atomic force microscopy for low-noise, high-resolution frequency-modulation imaging in liquid environment.

2011

A key issue for high-resolution frequency-modulation atomic force microscopy imaging in liquids is minimizing the frequency noise, which requires a detailed analysis of the corresponding noise contributions. In this paper, we present a detailed description for modifying a commercial atomic force microscope (Bruker MultiMode V with Nanoscope V controller), aiming at atomic-resolution frequency-modulation imaging in ambient and in liquid environment. Care was taken to maintain the AFMs original stability and ease of operation. The new system builds upon an optimized light source, a new photodiode and an entirely new amplifier. Moreover, we introduce a home-built liquid cell and sample holder …

Speciation of organotin compounds in NaCl aqueous solution. Interaction of mono-, di- and triorganotin(IV) cations with nucleotides 5’ monophosphates

2004

Formation constants for complex species of mono-, di- and tri-alkyltin(IV) cations with somenucleotide 5-monophosphates (AMP, UMP, IMP and GMP) are reported, atT=25◦CandatI=0.16 mol l−1(NaCl). The investigation was performed in the light of speciation of organometalliccompounds in natural fluids in the presence of nucleotides whose biological importance is wellrecognized. The simple and mixed hydrolytic complex species formed in all the systems investigatedin the pH range 3–9 are (L=nucleotide; M=organotin cation RxSn(4−x)+, withx=1to3):ML+,ML(OH)0and ML(OH)2−for the system CH3Sn3+–L (L=AMP, IMP, UMP); ML0and ML(OH)−for the system (C2H5)2Sn2+–L (L=AMP, IMP, UMP); ML−, ML(OH)2−,MLH0and M2L(O…

Study of the mechanisms of oxidative stress, mitochondrial function and endoplasmic reticulum stress in obesity. Role in subclinical atherosclerosis …

2019

4,4'-[Thiophene-2,5-diylbis(ethyne-2,1-diyl)]dibenzonitrile

2008

In the solid state, the title compound, C(22)H(10)N(2)S, forms centrosymmetric dimers by pairs of non-classical C-H⋯S hydrogen bonds linking approximately coplanar mol-ecules. The benzene ring involved in this inter-action makes a dihedral angle of only 7.21 (16)° with the thio-phene ring, while the other benzene ring is twisted somewhat out of the plane, with a dihedral angle of 39.58 (9)°. The hydrogen-bonded dimers stack on top of each other with an inter-planar spacing of 3.44 Å. C-H⋯N hydrogen bonds link together stacks that run in approximately perpendicular directions. Each mol-ecule thus inter-acts with 12 adjacent mol-ecules, five of them approaching closer than the sum of the van …

Optimization of the JUNO liquid scintillator composition using a Daya Bay antineutrino detector

2021

To maximize the light yield of the liquid scintillator (LS) for the Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JUNO), a 20 t LS sample was produced in a pilot plant at Daya Bay. The optical properties of the new LS in various compositions were studied by replacing the gadolinium-loaded LS in one antineutrino detector. The concentrations of the fluor, PPO, and the wavelength shifter, bis-MSB, were increased in 12 steps from 0.5 g/L and <0.01 mg/L to 4 g/L and 13 mg/L, respectively. The numbers of total detected photoelectrons suggest that, with the optically purified solvent, the bis-MSB concentration does not need to be more than 4 mg/L. To bridge the one order of magnitude in the detect…
