Modeling dense inflorescences

Showy inflorescences - clusters of flowers - are a common feature of many plants, greatly contributing to their beauty. The large numbers of individual flowers (florets), arranged in space in a systematic manner, make inflorescences a natural target for procedural modeling. We present a suite of biologically motivated algorithms for modeling and animating the development of inflorescences with closely packed florets. Summary Background Cutaneous mucormycoses, mainly due to Lichtheimia (Absidia), have occurred on several occasions in the Burn Unit of the University Hospital of Lille, France. Aim To investigate the potential vector role of non-sterile bandages used to hold in place sterile gauze used for wound dressing. Darbā tika analizēts dzelzs, cinka, vara, kālija un fosfātjonu saturs mellenēs (Vaccinium myrtillus L.), krūmmellenēs (Vaccinium corymbosum) un to augsnē. Melleņu un augsnes paraugi tika ievākti meža teritorijā, kur tika mēslots ar vieglajiem koksnes pelniem. Krūmmelleņu ogu un augsnes paraugi tika ievākti privātmājas teritorijā, kur netika izmantots nekāds mēslojums. Veicot sauso mineralizāciju, ar liesmas atomabsorbciometrijas metodi noteikts dzelzs, cinka un vara saturs, fotometriski tika noteikts fosfātjonu saturs un ar liesmas fotometriju tika noteikts kālija saturs. Iegūtie rezultāti tika apstrādāti, izvērtēts noteikto elementu saturs mellenēs un krūmmellenēs, kā arī iegūtie rezultāti…

Triterpenoid saponins from Polycarpaea corymbosa Lamk. var. eriantha Hochst.

Abstract Four triterpenoid saponins (1–4) were isolated from Polycarpaea corymbosa Lamk. var. eriantha Hochst along with the known apoanagallosaponin IV (5). Their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic data analysis. Among the compounds 1, 3–5 which were evaluated for their cytotoxicity against three tumor cell lines (SW480, DU145 and EMT6), compound 1 exhibited cytotoxicity with IC50 values ranging from 4.61 to 22.61 μM, which was greater than that of etoposide. Compound 2 was tested only against SW480 and a cardiomyoblast cell line (H9c2), and was inactive.

Cardopatine and isocardopatine, two novel cyclobutane substances from Cardopatium corymbosum

Two new natural substances containing a cyclobutane unit, cardopatine and isocardopatine, the trans and cis isomers respectively of 5,5″ (cyclobut-1,2-ylene-diethynylene)bis 2,2′-bithiophene), together with the known α-terthienyl and 5-(but-3-en-1-ynyl)-2,2′-bithienyl, have been isolated from the roots of Cardopatium corymbosum. Evidence is given that the novel cyclobutane substances are not the products of a spontaneous dimerization of a bithienyl monomeric unit. Structure determination and conformational analysis are reported.
