Development of Antioxidant Protein Extracts from Gilthead Sea Bream (Sparus aurata) Side Streams Assisted by Pressurized Liquid Extraction (PLE)

2021

The pressurized liquid extraction (PLE) technique was used, for the first time, to obtain protein extracts with antioxidant activity from side streams (muscle, heads, viscera, skin, and tailfins) of gilthead sea bream (Sparus aurata) in order to give added value to these underutilized matrices. Extraction conditions previously optimized for sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) side streams were applied. Protein recovery percentages were 22% (muscle), 33% (heads), 78% (viscera), 24% (skin), and 26% (tailfins), which represented an increase of 1.2–4.5-fold compared to control samples (extraction by stirring). The SDS-PAGE profiles revealed that PLE-assisted extraction influenced protein molecular …

Fixed point theorems for $\alpha$-$\psi$-contractive type mappings

2012

In this paper, we introduce a new concept of $\alpha$-$\psi$-contractive type mappings and establish fixed point theorems for such mappings in complete metric spaces. Starting from the Banach contraction principle, the presented theorems extend, generalize and improve many existing results in the literature. Moreover, some examples and applications to ordinary differential equations are given here to illustrate the usability of the obtained results.

Apatite and clinopyroxene as tracers for metasomatic processes in nepheline clinopyroxenites of Uralian-Alaskan-type complexes in the Ural Mountains,…

2013

Clinopyroxene and apatite are found to trace metasomatic processes in nepheline-bearing clinopyroxenites (tilaites) from the igneous, mafic-ultramafic Uralian-Alaskan-type complexes of Kytlym and Nizhny Tagil, Ural Mountains, Russian Federation. The clinopyroxenites consist predominantly of coarse-grained, partially to totally altered clinopyroxene phenocrysts in a matrix of fine-grained olivine, clinopyroxene, plagioclase, K-feldspar, and nepheline. Apatite occurs as idiomorphic inclusions (2O-, Na2O-, and Al2O3-bearing fluid. During conversion of the plagioclase, CaO and SiO2 were partitioned into the fluid. Altered areas in the clinopyroxene phenocrysts are characterized by the redistrib…

Determination of cobalt, copper, iron, nickel and zinc in cemented tungsten carbides with cobalt as a binder by FAAS: Matrix effect control by multiv…

1997

A new approach for the determination of cobalt, copper, iron, nickel and zinc in cemented tungsten carbides with cobalt as a binder by flame atomic absorption spectrophotometry (FAAS) is reported. Real samples were dissolved in phosphoric, hydrochloric and nitric acid. PTFE bomb or alternatively small amounts of HF were used for the enhancement of the recovery of the elements investigated. Synthetic samples were used for interference studies. Multiple linear regression was applied for the control of matrix effects and it proved to be very effective in the search for interfering elements. Using simple acid based standards, all investigated elements could be determined sequentially in a compl…

Coupled cluster calculations of interaction energies in benzene–fluorobenzene van der Waals complexes

2007

Benzene-fluorobenzene complexes are used as model systems to simulate the interactions of the SBB-HCAII protein-ligand complex. Using the second-order Moller-Plesset [MP2] and the coupled cluster singles and doubles including connected triple excitations models recently implemented with Cholesky decompositions we evaluate accurate interaction energies for several benzene-fluorobenzene van der Waals complexes. We consider edge-to-face interactions and compare the results to those from a recent MP2 study and to experimental findings. In contrast to experimental trends, we find that the interaction tends to decrease with increasing fluorination and conclude that benzene-fluorobenzene complexes…

Capillary electrophoresis–inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry hyphenation for the determination at the nanogram scale of metal affinities an…

2012

Abstract A screening strategy based on hyphenated capillary electrophoresis and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (CE–ICP-MS) was developed to classify phosphorylated ligands according to their europium(III) binding affinity in a hydro-organic medium (sodium formate, pH 3.7, H2O/MeOH 90:10, v/v). Taking advantage of the high sensibility of ICP-MS for detecting phosphorus, this method enabled to assess the affinity of a variety of phosphorylated compounds, including phosphine oxides, thiophosphines, phosphonates, and phosphinates, in less than 1 h and using less than 5 ng of substance. By varying the total europium concentration, complexation constants could be determined accordin…

Modeling21Ne NMR parameters for carbon nanosystems

2013

The potential of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) technique in probing the structure of porous systems including carbon nanostructures filled with inert gases is analysed theoretically using accurate calculations of neon ((21) Ne) nuclear magnetic shieldings. The CBS estimates of (21) Ne NMR parameters were performed for single atom, its dimer and neon interacting with acetylene, ethylene and 1,3-cyclopentadiene. Several levels of theory including restricted Hartree-Fock (RHF), Moller-Plesset perturbation theory to the second order (MP2), density functional theory (DFT) with van Voorhis and Scuseria's t-dependent gradient-corrected correlation functional (VSXC), coupled cluster with single …

Chapter 17 Muscarinic receptors and cell signalling

1996

Publisher Summary Cells have developed signal transduction mechanisms in order to communicate with the cell exterior. Acetylcholine as an external signal is recognized by nicotinic and muscarinic receptors. This chapter presents various muscarinic receptors belonging to the superfamily of G protein-coupled receptors consisting of seven transmembrane (TM) helices tightly packed in a ring-like structure and arranged in a counter-clockwise fashion. Agonist binding leads to a conformational change of the receptor, thereby activating associated G proteins. Muscarinic stimulation of G proteins leads to the activation or inhibition of ion channels, such as K + and Ca 2+ channels, the activation of…

G-protein-coupled receptor kinase 5 polymorphism and Takotsubo cardiomyopathy.

2015

BACKGROUND: Takotsubo cardiomyopathy (TTC) is an increasingly reported clinical syndrome that mimics acute myocardial infarction without obstructive coronary artery disease and is characterized by transient systolic dysfunction of the apical and/or mid-segments of the left ventricle. The syndrome mainly occurs in postmenopausal women with high adrenergic state conditions. Nowadays, the pathophysiology of TTC is not yet known and the possibility of a genetic predisposition is controversial. AIMS: The purpose of this study was to assess the genetic susceptibility to TTC through analysis of the L41Q polymorphism of the G-protein-coupled receptor kinase 5 (GRK5). METHODS AND RESULTS: In a cohor…

Myocardial G Protein Receptor–Coupled Kinase Expression Correlates With Functional Parameters and Clinical Severity in Advanced Heart Failure

2010

In heart failure (HF), sympathetic hyperactivation induces deleterious effects in myocardial β-adrenergic signaling, with receptor down-regulation and desensitization mediated by G protein receptor-coupled kinases (GRKs). We hypothesised that changes in GRK isoforms may be associated with clinical status in advanced HF, using the Interagency Registry for Mechanically Assisted Circulatory Support (INTERMACS) scale. We included 31 patients with advanced HF undergoing transplantation. According to INTERMACS profiles, mRNA and protein levels of GRK isoforms in left ventricular (LV) myocardium were analyzed and compared with nonfailing LV samples. In failing LV myocardium, GRK2 and GRK5 (but not G…
