Exceptional affinity of nanostructured organic-inorganic hybrid materials towards dioxygen: confinement effect of copper complexes
2007
We report the exceptional reactivity towards dioxygen of a nanostructured organic-inorganic hybrid material due to the confinement of copper cyclam within a silica matrix. The key step is the metalation reaction of the ligand, which can occur before or after xerogel formation through the sol-gel process. The incorporation of a Cu(II) center into the material after xerogel formation leads to a bridged Cu(I)/Cu(II) mixed-valence dinuclear species. This complex exhibits a very high affinity towards dioxygen, attributable to auto-organization of the active species in the solid. The remarkable properties of these copper complexes in the silica matrix demonstrate a high cooperative effect for O(2…
Synthesis, characterization and X-ray crystal structures of cyclam derivatives. 7. Hydrogen-bond induced allosteric effects and protonation cooperati…
2005
The unprecedented cooperative protonation properties displayed by a barrel-shaped macrotricyclic tetraamine incorporating two 14-membered bisamide rings maintained in a face-to-face arrangement is rationalized in terms of allosteric effects upon binding of the first and third protons.
Towards multifunctional magnetic systems through molecular-programmed self assembly of Re(IV) metalloligands
2015
Abstract The molecular-programmed approach based on the use as ligands of tailor-made metalloligands containing stable six-coordinate rhenium(IV) as paramagnetic centres is presented in this review article. A relatively large amount of spin density is covalent-delocalized away from the rhenium to the peripheral atoms of the ligands in the case of the Re(IV) metalloligands, as shown by polarized neutron diffraction experiments and density functional theory calculations. This feature accounts for the significant through space-magnetic interactions that occur in most of its mononuclear species and more interestingly it also explains the strengthening of the magnetic interactions in the heterom…
Sweeteners determination in table top formulations using FT-Raman spectrometry and chemometric analysis
2004
Abstract A partial least squares (PLS) Fourier transform Raman spectrometry procedure based on the measurement of solid samples contained inside standard glass vials, has been developed for direct and reagent-free determination of sodium saccharin and sodium cyclamate in table top sweeteners. A classical 22 design for standards was used for calibration, but this system provides accuracy errors higher than 13% w/w for the analysis of samples containing glucose monohydrate. So, an extended model incorporating glucose monohydrate (23 standards) was assayed for the determination of sodium saccharin and sodium cyclamate in all the samples. Mean centering spectra data pre-treatment has been emplo…
Exchange coupling across the cyanide bridge: structural and DFT interpretation of the magnetic properties of a binuclear chromium(III) complex.
2006
The reaction of [Cr(CN)6]3− with a mixture of trans-[Cr(cyclam)(OH)2]Cl, [Cr(cyclam)(OH)Cl]Cl and [Cr(cyclam)Cl2]Cl affords the cyanide bridged dimer, trans-[HO–Cr(cyclam)–NC–Cr(CN)5]−. The tetraphenylphosphonium salt of the anion crystallizes in space group P21/n and shows a bent arrangement of the Cr1–CN–Cr2 unit with the Cr1–CN bond angle at 166.9° and CN–Cr2 at 160.32°. The Cr2–O bond, trans to the hexacyanide fragment, is very short at 1.902 A. Two dimers are held together by two hydrogen bonds connecting the Cr2–OH group of each dimer with one of the NH groups of the cyclam ligand of an adjacent molecule, leading to an almost linear configuration. These dimers of dimers get packed par…
One-dimensional iron(III) and two-dimensional iron(III)nickel(II) cyanide-bridged ferromagnetic arrays from hexacyanoferrate(III) and [Ni(cyclam)]2+ …
1999
Abstract The X-ray structures and magnetic properties of a iron(III) linear chain and a honeycomb-like layered iron(III)-nickel(II) cyanide-bridged compound are reported. The former contains alternating iron sites and unexpected ferromagnetic behaviour, justified on the basis of the axial distortion from regular octahedral geometry of one of the iron ions. The latter is metamagnetic with ferromagnetic intralayers and antiferromagnetic interlayers interactions with a Neel temperature, TN= 7.7 K. The field-induced transition from an antiferro- to a ferromagnetic state takes place at Hc= 5000 G. The antiferromagnetic ordered phase exhibits spin-canting and long range ferromagnetic ordering at …
Wilt and Collapse of Cuphea ignea Caused by Phytophthora tropicalis in Italy.
2006
The genus Cuphea (Lythraceae) includes approximately 250 species of annual, evergreen perennials and short shrubs native to Central and South America. During the springs of 2003 and 2004, 10% of the nursery stock of approximately 12,000 potted cigar-flowers (C. ignea A. DC) grown in a screenhouse at a commercial ornamental nursery near Piedimonte Etneo, Sicily, had symptoms of wilt, defoliation, and rapid collapse of the entire plant. These foliar symptoms were associated with a reduced root system, browning of the collar, and dark brown discolored roots. A Phytophthora species was consistently recovered by plating small pieces of rotted roots of symptomatic plants onto selective medium (3…
Reinforced cyclam derivatives functionalized on the bridging unit
2016
International audience; A new synthetic method has been developed for the preparation of reinforced cyclams (1,4,8,11-tetraazacyclotetradecane) C-functionalized on the bridging unit, by using a "one pot" reaction starting from the appropriate bis-aminal cyclam intermediate. The high reactivity of quaternized aminal moiety toward nucleophilic agent has been used to elaborate a new class of cross-bridged and side-bridged cyclam derivatives containing cyanide group on the ethylene bridge. Several chelators and corresponding copper(II) complexes have been prepared and characterized by X-ray diffraction. These new constrained polyazamacrocycles are valuable precursors of bifunctional chelating a…
Bis(terpyridyl)-ruthenium(II) units attached to polyazacycloalkanes as sensing fluorescent receptors for transition metal ions
2000
A synthetic strategy has been devised for the preparation of new compounds in which terpyridyl fragments are linked to 1,4,8,11-tetraazacyclotetradecane (cyclam). Reaction of excess cyclam with 4′-[(4-bromomethyl)phenyl]-2,2′:2″,6′-terpyridine afforded the ligand 1-[4′-p-tolyl-(2,2′:6′,2″-terpyridyl)]-1,4,8,11-tetraazacyclotetradecane (L1) in which the tetraaza macrocycle was covalently attached to one benzyl-terpyridyl fragment. Under similar conditions reaction of cyclam with excess 4′-[(4-bromomethyl)phenyl]-2,2′:2″,6′-terpyridine gave the tetra substituted cyclam derivative 1,4,8,11-[4′-p-tolyl-(2,2′:6′,2″-terpyridyl)]-1,4,8,11-tetraazacyclotetradecane (L2). The multidentate ligand L2 w…
