The subject of the article entitled ‘‘Portrait of the end of an epoch in Ladislav Fuks’ novel Vévodkyně a kuchařka” is the reflection on the last work of the novelist published in 1983. W pierwszej części artykułu autorka zwraca uwagę na specyficzne cechy komunikacji na pograniczu i podkreśla, że mamy tu do czynienia z dwiema wspólnotami komunikacyjnymi, odmiennymi pod względem kulturowym, narodowym i społecznym, które dążą do uzyskania porozumienia w akcie komunikacji. The article analyses the novel Cesta do pekel written by Václav Vokolek – the Czech prose writer, poet and painter – through the usage of the intersemiotic translation strategies. The plot of the text can be characterized as the contamination of the physically plausible historic world (the construction of the railway in the middle of the 19th century) with the implausible one (the infernal story) according to Lubomír Doležel’s typology. Demonstrating the changes in the arts (the clash of romanticism with realism), the novelist sensitizes the reader to the drastic introversion into nature, as exemplifi ed by the urbanization processes in the north of the Czech Republic. The article discusses works of Vladimír Körner (born in 1939), the plot of which is related to the Austro-Prussian war (1866). These are: series Post bellum 1866, a micro narrative Oklamaný – Der Bertogene and a novel Život za podpis. In the first part of the study the attention concentrates on writer’s statements, taken from press interviews, which assess this armed conflict. These statements are treated as paratexts to analysed literary works. The series Post bellum 1866 is considered as a distinctive guide to a place of the battle of Königgratz.
